I heard on the radio this morning that the Twolves are trying to package 5 and 18 to move up to #2... Not sure who they covet so much though...

if i had to bet money on it, i think it's rubio...

they've got a decent set of bigs. they have a good wing player in brewer, but their point guards are sebastian telfair and kevin ollie.

if they land rubio or another blue chipper with that second pick (assuming they get it) they could be one of those portland up and coming types we see over the next 2-3 years.

and you know what? good for them. the way they had kg just taken away from them, they deserve it.

i would think Thabeet actually would be their target....

Jefferson and Love are pure PF's and since Jefferson scores so well, they can afford to have a pure defensive C on the floor.

then, at #6, they can pickup a PG (Holiday) or a combo-G like Curry or Evans.

I heard it was Rubio they were after in the #2 spot.

I saw the other day that David Lee is an RFA and that the Knicks might not be willing to match an offer for him. Any interest in him? I don't know much about his defense but he definitely brings a lot on the offensive side of the ball. He was second in double doubles behind Dwight this season, and while he's not the tallest guy around (lists at 6'9) he plays big and is a hustle guy.

love his play. he's not exactly what we need. but that is a piece i would like to have.

our main priority is to get a big body down low.

and while big guys are always tough to come across. we don't need a scoring machine down low. i would take tyson chandler in a heartbeat.

david lee is a solid player. i think he'd be a great fit with the cavs. but our main priority is someone who can bang around with dwight howard.

i hate having to say "oh we need this guy to beat this particular team" but that's the straight truth

we didn't lose to orlando because we didn't work hard enough or because of poor coaching (some won't buy that), we lost because we had nobody that could deal with howard, and it made us pay. i honestly didn't think they'd shoot like they did, because normally 3 point percentages dip in the playoffs. but they shot lights out almost every game.

and like i said building a team to beat another team is dumb, but you have to imagine you may see orlando down the road again in a series and this time you have to be ready.

some may not believe, but i honestly think if we had a guy like kendrick perkins, who isn't a super star, not an all star, really not even a top 5 center, we probably beat orlando in 5 games.

crazy, huh?

I guarantee it's Ricky Rubio, they really need a PG.

I'll say it now, don't be surprised if Thabeet slips out of the top 5.

this is a PG heavy draft though even if Rubio is the best prospect there....they also badly need a C and Thabeet is the only C in this draft.

I dont see why people are so hyped up about this kid. He has no offensive moves, thin, doesnt run the floor that well. and very little experience. He's ok on defense but I can see him easily getting manipulated and pushed around in the post at the NBA level.

The steal of this draft is Curry, Curry, Curry!!!

I agree. I would be in favor of a guy like Lee as a replacement for Andy, since they fill similar roles (though you are giving up a few inches and pounds) and are probably going to command similar money, and then trying to bring in a 5 that can body up on the bigs we're going to face.

I still think AL jefferson can be a good C. They could put Kevin Love at the PF. Brewer at SF but they still need help at PG and SG. SO that's where Rubio would come in.

If they took Thabeet they would have to bench Kevin Love and they would STILL need help at PG and SG

Ok, I'm replying to more than just you here...but here's my thoughts on the Twolves options:

I don't think they want an undersized C out there with Jefferson paired with an undersized PF in Love. I think they will be best off in the long run finding a true center and then bringing Love off the bench and rotating their big men depending on matchups, fouls, and fatigue. All teams need at least 3 big men to rotate big minutes whether or not they technically start.

This is why in the current draft, they should be very interested in Thabeet. Unfortunately for them, he is not a prototypical #2 pick C....he likely will be considered a bust if all you look at is where he is drafted and do not consider the draft itself.

Then, when you consider that they could still potentially get Curry (or another PG) if they keep the #6 pick, it makes it an obvious choice unless their scouts are telling them that Rubio is truly going to be an elite PG and is way ahead of the others in this draft (which could be the case)

Also, Thabeet is almost certainly going to turn into a good defensive center in the pros and those are valuable. Look at Dampier, Diop, and Dalembert's $10mil/year contracts. And then remember they would be getting Thabeet for less than half of that for 4 years.

i honestly hope the cavs don't draft by need...

worry about needs with free agency and trades...

with the draft, i think you take the best player possible, position doesn't matter. we may need a true center, but honestly we could use a player at any position for our bench.

but based on what i have read, it seems like the cavs have someone targeted, and are going to move up. it's interesting and probably the only reason i watch the draft.

this team needs more 2-way players.

The Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors are closing in on a trade that would find a new home for Jamal Crawford.

NBA front-office sources say that the Warriors and Hawks will soon complete a deal sending Crawford to Atlanta for Acie Law and Speedy Claxton.

my take: GS gets 2 potentially expiring deals for Crawford's $10mil/year deal that has 2 years left on it. Acie Law is a horrible fit for Nellie-ball (he isn't going to beat NBA players going 1on1 getting mismatches), but it's probably worth it to them for the $$$ savings.

Atlanta must think they can get a backup PG at #19....but having Crawford as their 6th man is a definite upgrade for them.

and another trade....apparently Portland is after someone that they thought Dallas and/or Sacramento wanted (Sam Young perhaps?)

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4284712

The Portland TrailBlazers acquired the 22nd pick in Thursday's NBA draft from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the 24th and 56th picks in this year's draft, and worst of their second round picks in 2010, according to a league source.

The trade has been agreed to in principle by the two teams. It should be finalized by the league office later today.

NEW YORK – Phoenix center Shaquille O’Neal is creeping closer to joining the championship chase with LeBron James, league sources said on Wednesday.

The Shaq-to-Cleveland trade talks have gained momentum and Cavaliers officials are nearing the conclusion they should make the move for O’Neal, sources said. Now, they have to find the package that’ll work with Phoenix.

One league executive says there’s an “inevitability” to the talks and that, “It’s going to get done.”

Nevertheless, there are still hurdles. Besides taking Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, Phoenix wants Cleveland to surrender cash and future draft picks. Both teams have tried to find a third team to get involved, but with no luck yet.

Cleveland and Phoenix are both juggling multiple trade possibilities with other teams, with the Cavs involved with as many as six trade scenarios.

I still have mixed feelings about trading for Shaq. He's just a stop gap player to stop Dwight Howard. However if we get LeBron a championship that will make resigning LeBron a lot easier.

He'd be a one year rent-a-mercenary to get a Championship.

... and the last three words of that sentence are all I care about.

That's a solid deal for the Cavs .... and still allows them the ability to be a major player next year.

Isn't Shaq's deal somewhere around $20 million?

That's a lot of shopping spree money next season.

Final piece to our championship?

Welcome to Cleveland Shaq!!! Hard to believe this past decade he got to play with Kobe, D-Wade and now Lebron

Deal awaiting final owner approval

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns are nearing agreement on a blockbuster trade that would send Shaquille O'Neal to Cleveland to team with LeBron James, according to two sources with knowledge of the discussions.

The deal is more than "90 percent" complete, according to the sources, and is merely awaiting final approval from the team's owners.

Cleveland will send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to Phoenix for the future Hall of Famer.

The trade gives the Cavs a player they've coveted since February. With center Zydrunas Ilgauskas starting to break down, adding Shaq to the roster gives them a dominant force in the middle. The Cavs were obviously unhappy with their ability to defend Dwight Howard in the playoffs and bringing Shaq into the fold should help.

For the Suns, the move is a straight salary dump. Pavlovic's $5 million dollar contract next season is only partially guaranteed for the amount of $1.5 million. Factor in the disparities in the contracts between Wallace, Pavlovic and Shaq and the team will save $4.5 milliion next season. However, when you factor in the savings they'll reap on the luxury tax, it will be closer to $10 million in savings. That savings can be amplified if Wallace decides to retire and the Suns buy him out of his contract for less than the $14 million he's owed next season.

The trade is a pretty strong admission by the Suns that they screwed up when they traded Shawn Marion for Shaq in February of 2007. Marion was a free agent this summer and, had they let him walk, their savings would've been $21 million not the $5.5 million they're saving in this deal.

When the Suns made the trade they had the best record in the Western Conference. This year they finished in the lottery. With Shaq gone, the question is ... are the Suns finally rebuilding?

Sources say that the team would still like to compete. They still have veterans Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Jason Richardson and Leandro Barbosa. They also have the 14th pick in the draft this year and second year player Robin Lopez.

resign Andy and go out and add rangy wing player...

if we can do those two things, we might be sitting very pretty...

the thought of BOTH Z and Rangy Wing FA/Dwest coming off the bench sounds pretty damn good!

If we go that high, I prefer we get Tyreke Evans. Big, athletic point guard. I keep reading we will get a point guard for sure tommorrow. I also keep hearing about Anthony Parker from the raptors. We may get him for the MLE. I guess we wanted him in 06.

The pressure will always be on LeBron,....but I know what you mean. "That guy" should have been MW. And it still could be now with Shaq.

I just wonder how much he actually has left in his tank. However with Z being able to spell him, or v-v, it puts the Cavs in a great spot.

Good night, Dwight.
