Daisher named special teams coordinator 01.30.2007
The Browns have named Ted Daisher as special teams coordinator, the club announced Tuesday.
Daisher spent 2006 as special teams coordinator of the Oakland Raiders and the previous two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles special teams quality control coach from 2004-05.
Daisher, 52, spent 22 seasons as an assistant coach in the college ranks, including stints at East Carolina (2001-02, outside linebackers and defensive ends), Indiana (1998-2000, defensive line), Army (1995-97, defensive line), Cincinnati (1989-92, defensive line), Eastern Michigan (1985-88, defensive ends), Northern Illinois (1980-84), and Illinois (1979).
Both Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan won Mid-American Conference championships while he was on the staff of the respective institutions. Daisher coached future NFL players Vaughn Booker and Ronnie Dixon at Cincinnati, and Pro Bowl DE Adewale Ogunleye (Chicago) and Kemp Rasmussen (Seattle) at Indiana.
In 2003, he served as head coach at East Mecklenberg (N.C.) High School and led them to a 7-4 regular season record and a playoff berth. He also served as head coach at Fenwick (Ill.) High School from 1993-94. Daisher spent the 1978 football season coaching receivers and defensive backs at Kalamazoo (Mich.) Christian High School.

Maybe these guys will help the Browns. But, I must ask you----can anyone really say that these guys have better resumes and more respect in NFL circles than the guys we replaced?

Raiders special teams coach Ted Daisher erupted in a sideline outburst Sunday that he later apologized for, but some of his players aren't in a forgiving mood.
According to three special teams players, Daisher shoved a team intern, screamed at his assistant, yelled at players who looked at him and challenged players to fistfights during a 23-14 loss to the Houston Texans.
"He was out of control," one of the players said, speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. One week ago, Raiders coach Art Shell warned the team to keep their problems in-house.
"He was pushing people, yelling at people, just for staring at him. I was completely shocked. It was embarrassing. I haven't seen anything like that since junior high school."
I was critical of the OL hire. I'm not going to comment on this one, other than to say between Braylon and this guy there may be more action on the sideline than on the field. Good luck Romeo.
If that is true as written and not slanted for the story... it is completely disgraceful and wholly unprofessional and I would hope that there is a significant explanation forthcoming from our front office as to why we've accepted him into our organization.
This guy's new found hobby since that outburst had best be walking on water.

It makes you wonder........not saying this guy isn't a good coach, but at this point, it is hard to attract quality coaches due to our situation.....to me, we are getting newbies looking for a shot or old guys hanging on to the NFL by a string.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

The Browns hired a fiery special teams coach Tuesday -- if fiery is the right word.
Ted Daisher, last of the Oakland Raiders, will replace Jerry Rosburg, who went to the Atlanta Falcons.
Daisher, 51, ran the Raiders' special teams for one season under Art Shell, and spent the previous two years as special teams quality control coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. He had coached at several colleges before joining the Eagles.
His most memorable game last season may have occurred Dec. 3. Daisher had what was described as an intense sideline outburst that led to an apology to players.
In a 23-14 loss to the Houston Texans, the Raiders missed three field goals and gave up an 87-yard kickoff return to set up a touchdown and a 58-yard punt return that set up a field goal.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Daisher (pronounced Dasher) pushed a team intern, yelled at his assistant, yelled at players and even challenged them to fights on the sideline.
All information came from players who did not want to be identified. One player told the Chronicle the experience took him back to junior high school days.
Shell said Daisher got caught up in the heat of the moment.
Earlier in the season, Daisher apparently also got into a verbal spat with Warren Sapp on the sideline.
The Raiders, who finished a league-worst 2-14, had the league's 11th-best kickoff returner (The Browns' Joshua Cribbs was 16th) and ranked 32nd in kickoff coverage, 30th in punt coverage and 31st in punt returns.
The Browns had a good day against the Raiders' special teams in their 24-21 win. Cribbs had kickoff returns of 65 and 53 yards, and Dennis Northcutt had a 58-yard punt return.

Oakland was 2nd last in punt return average ..... but 2nd best in KO return average. They were 3rd worst in punt coverage average, and dead last in KO coverage. Oakland also made a whopping 16 FG.
I don't see this as an upgrade, nor do I see this as the best possible hire. A Special Teams Coach has to get the most out of the bottom of the roster. He doesn't, nor will he ever, get the premiere players to work with.

Okay...........so Dopie supposedly fires Lott for yelling at opposing players, but he hires Daisher who pushes, yells, and wants to fight people on his own team.

Hmmm... those numbers are more in tune w/our running game, scoring, total offense, run defense, etc. Now, I see the fit. He should bring more balance to the Browns.

I had a crazy thought today, especially for me because i am not one at all for conspiracies. But on the surface, it almost looks like these allegedly inept people are being hired so that romeo is almost assured a bad season and it clears the way next year for a bill cowher or jeff fisher. Who knows, maybe opie has Randy Lerners ok to do it... lol alright, that is my single conspiracy thought in about the last 10 years and probably the only for another 10 years.
