I agree. While I was upset about the passing of a childhood idol, people need to keep things in perspective. These are the guys who are truly heroes.
Thanks for posting.
On a related note, my best friend is leaving for Afghanistan in January...

SSgt Beale, I salute you for the ultimate sacrifice you made. May you rest in peace.
I would also like to salute the fine Americans that came out to show their support for this fallen soldier.

Thank you for that. That is how it should be for all our soldiers, sailors and airmen. R.I.P.

I think it's worth noting that Jackson gave several hefty donations in support of U.S. troops.
With that said...our media is beyond warped...what do you expect?
Not to mention...if we did focus on these deaths like we focused on Jackson's...we wouldn't be in Iraq or Afghanistan.

It sure is different these days than in my parents day. Many years ago I mentioned watching the film The Battle of the Bulge to my dad and he talked about his pal Joe Lucky who died in the battle. He and Joe worked at an engineering firm in Cleveland until their deferments ran out - then Joe joined the Army while my dad went into the Navy. My dad said they ate lunch together each day at work, he added that their lunch breaks were just 7 minutes long.
A few years later I was a the breakfast table setting the spacing on some spark plugs. My mom walked in and commented that setting spark plug spacing was the job she did during the war. I guess they went into B-17's based on another comment made by my dad at another time - neither dwelled on their past, just rare comments here and there.
When I hear today "Support the troops" I have wonder what in the hell does that mean these days? Seems the soldier and their families for the most part on pretty much on their own. My preference would be not to commit our troops to any war that isn't a national effort.
Concerning the media, I think they should cover what the people want to see covered, since they can't please everybody they may as well please the most. If they spent a quarter of the time they've devoted to Michael Jackson on the war dead, we know darn well the radio talk show hosts would be belly-aching that it was purely liberal propaganda against the war. Their point may be legitimate, look what happened with Vietnam in the late 60's.
Meanwhile, I thank God for our troops and ask Him to comfort their families. I also pray to be deserving of their sacrifices.

Wow, Beautiful Thank you....Staff Sgt. Beale.
Americans know who the real hero's are as shown in the video, they lined the streets for one and probebly all Sgt. Beale wanted to do was his job than go home to his family, being a hero was not on his mind, but I guess thats what a true hero his / does. May god rest his soul and comfort his family & friends. Incredible video, if that leaves ya with a dry eye something is wrong.
Media every day manipulates the thinking of all Americans, showing us who we really are and telling us how we really think....so they seem, Media can go to....well ya know, They dont show it because it's real and they cant minipulate something like that video, I try to stay away from the media,
Great post Reckon

Exactly.
If we actually had to focus on the cost of our 'nation building' (i.e. imperialism') abroad, then, much like Vietnam, we'd examine what we were doing a bit closer and quickly realize it was a travesty and these things wouldn't happen.

These days it's merely a propaganda tool used by our gov't...they hide behind the troops, because they know the national admiration for them...it has a nicer ring to it than 'support the war'...

I did find it ironic that as every major network was solely focused on Michael Jackson all day, that during part of the ceremony, one of the major networks, don't remember which one had one of those banners running across the bottom... something about North Korea and Hawaii... and some nuclear weapons. But nothing important enough to pre-empt MJs ceremony.....
