Of the ones you posted, only Virginia Beach would be interesting to me. But I lived in Boston for a while and don't have a need to go back. Cleveland I'll see in a few months when I go hunting. My personal bias comes in and says I should tell you to come to the Keys...

Va. Beach is way over rated. I live in this area. The strip is over run by late teenagers and the beach isnt that great.
I would go to the outer banks N.C. if you were looking for something in the same area and on the beach. It's more laid back, not as overpopulated with horny teenagers, and you can find some really good deals on some rental spots right now.
If you dont mind the heat... Look into Key West, Fla. My second favorite spot to vacation in the U.S.... Vegas is my first. IThe Keys are very laid back with some great restaurants.

I just got back from Wrightsville beach NC, The Waterway Lodge is about 100 buck a night and you're about a mile from the beach...parking near the beach is a bear so we walked down, it was a nice little vacation.

Seems like you want to stay east of the Mississippi...if that's the case, I'll throw out another alternative - Chicago.
Catch a Cubs game (truly unique experience), eat great food, let her shop on Michigan Avenue while you drink at a bar, and if you want a beach, hit up the North Avenue Beach on Lake Michigan.
I was just there, and it really wasn't too bad a trip on the wallet. Ironically, beers were cheaper at Wrigley ($6.25 for a Red Stripe) than they are at Progressive ($6.75 for a watered down Miller/Bud).

Outer banks is cool. Isn't Atomic around there somewhere? I gotta get up there some time. I hear the fishing is great.
Sorry to hear the Keys ruled out, but maybe next time.
And Purp, you know you're always welcome to come down bud.
It's getting to be that time of year again, I'll see if I can put together another package like I did last year for some folks. Beachdawg came down....speaking of...When you coming back Beach? I got that shirt for ya.

Atomic is in Myrtle Beach... and Mercer... Quote:
D.C/Baltimore/Coast
You do realize that DC/Baltimore are not on the coast right?
It all depends on what you want to do.. If you want to go to the beach and stay active, I'd recommend Myrtle Beach, if you want to go to the beach to relax and do nothing, I'd recommend the outer banks, if you want to site see I'd recommend DC....
Virginia Beach, as a beach, never excited me, but if you like to do other stuff, like Busch Gardens, Water Country, Colonial Williamsburg, etc, then the Virginia Beach area has a lot to offer and the beach will only be a small part of your trip.

I realize that DC/Baltimore is not on the coast, but if we went that way... Baltimore for an Orioles game, DC for well DC and then finish out with a two day beach stay or something by driving over to the coast.

Not sure what your exactly loking to do but if your looking to get away and relax... hockinghills.com The Hocking Hills are a of Ohio is supposed to be beautiful horseback riding, canoeing, caves etc. Thats where we are going October for a short honeymoon.
The cabins in the area are plentiful to choose from. Actually I wouldnt even call them cabins more like houses in the woods lol.

I was thinking they were going to be a lot more expensive especially since a 12 oz. can of Bud Light was $5.00 at some of the bars outside the stadium. I think it was Murphy's were I paid that much. A bigger beer was about the same price at Casey Morans and Cubby Bear...

depends on what you like...just got back from San Fran and I really enjoyed it.
I was in Boston as a kid and thought it was really cool from a historical perspective. NYC is a great time.
Again, depends on your style of travel and what's important to you....one man's Xanadu could be another man's toilet

I guess it all depends on what are your interests? Being into history I had a good time hitting Gettsburg, Williamsburg and then Washington. It was sightseeing during the day and partying at night. I do recall Virginia Beach on that trip made almost 30 years ago. From an earlier comment made, I take it that it still sucks.

For beaches, I always recommend Emerald Isle or Atlantic Beach in North Carolina. It is never very crowded and we've always had great luck with it. We've been going there for about the past 20 years.
I will say that there isn't a ton of night life as it's a little more family oriented, so if you're wanting to go to bars, etc., EI probably isn't a great choice.
I was just in Chicago last month and I would love to go back. If you haven't been there, you should check it out.
Upstate Michigan is really nice this time of year, too.
I guess it depends on what you want. If it's relaxing time, then head north. If you want some excitement, go to the big cities. If you just want to veg on a beach, head east. If you want to throw up a lot, go to GM's shower.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

If you can't make it to Hawaii then I second the Chicago idea. Sitting in the bleachers for a game at Wrigley is great. A couple (few) Old Styles in the sun and pocketing a couple BP home run balls. It's a great time.
The beaches are fun. Michigan Ave is nice. I love the Art Institute and the Shedd Aquarium.
Chicago is a great big city that feels small. The L is a great way to get around. Definitely consider it.

I've been to all except Va. Beach.. dunno anything about it.
I'd recommend NYC only because there is so much to see.. IF you go there, in the west 50's there is a resturant called Patsys.. It's an italian place.. Best Italian food in the city..bar none.
See Jersey Boys but don't waste your time with the Empire state building... Tourist trap..
If you have relatives that came through Ellis Island, it's a gas to look them up and see what ship they came in on... I'd suggest doing some research at home first so you can get the year right...
The Statue of Liberty is an awesome sight... it's an experience I'm glad I had a chance to take in....
It's like getting on a plane at an airport to get out there to it. you have to go through metal detectors just like in an airport... in fact, everything is the same.
Times square is amazing as well.. and don't forget to take a trip through Central park.....(note to self,, NOT AT NIGHT)
Boston has many things I like also, but to really enjoy them you need someone that really knows the area well.
Baltimore isn't great IMO,,, But if you like Crab Cakes, that's the best place to get them.
Philly,,,, in south Philly there is a place called Donte and Luigis... they have a shooting and none shooting section...LOL
Otherwise, seeing some of the sights like Franklins place or the Liberty Bell,,, nice but not worth it IMO..
If you chose NYC or Boston,, Bring a FAT wallet......
