THE quintessential and seminal album that ushered in the "Cool" movement in Jazz. There was nothing like it for comparison, as it was the first. All other albums get compared to it. The sound was revolutionary at the time... and its influence can still be heard in movies, TV music, and current jazz performances... 50 years later.
"Though precise figures have been disputed, Kind of Blue has been cited by many music writers not only as Davis's best-selling album, but as the best-selling jazz record of all time. On October 7, 2008, it was certified quadruple platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It has been regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz album of all time and Davis's masterpiece, and it has been ranked at or near the top of several "best album" lists in disparate genres. The album's influence on music, including jazz, rock and classical music, has led music writers to acknowledge it as one of the most influential albums of all time. In 2002, it was one of fifty recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. In 2003, the album was ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2008, a box set release of Kind of Blue was issued by Legacy Records in commemoration of its fiftieth anniversary." (Scroll down the page, and read the section "Impact on music"... you'll be very surprised at some of the names that pop up.)
A MUST HAVE for serious music buffs, even if Jazz isn't necessarily your thing.
(The album was so huge, that a mere typing of the name Miles Davis on Google pops up "Kind of Blue" first in the drop-down cue... even before his bio!)

You just can't go wrong with Nirvana - Nevermind. There was a 45 minute show on the making of Nevermind on Time Warner's Music on Demand. It was really great.
Great album daman...and absolutely lesser known. Personally I think they are one of the most underated bands/groups ever....They have always had an uncanny ability to transform to the times and still play "their" music. There are not many groups that have consistently produced for over 40 years as they have...
Me...I always was partial to James Pankow..as I was trombonist in High School...so obviously Low Brass Kicks Ass!!!!!
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????
Some sort of jazzy metal. The band is awesome, one of the best releases in the past 10 years IMO.
Sounds like: Planet X's Moonbabies mixed with Atheist's Unquestionable Presence, ... I guess... Kinda hard to describe.
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
A great effort by these guys as they continue to impress me. Will be on people's top 10 lists this year in the world of Rock and Metal.
Sounds like: The closest resemblence is Neurosis, but they've changed so much that it's not that recognizable. They've mellowed out comparitive to Remission. They're still Sludgy. But now with shades of Rock to go with it.

mastadon is great
if you like neurosis, go listen to Isis. dunno if you have heard them or not.
His voice is unmistakable - sounds just like he did on any of Hootie and the Blowfish albums - more of a "country" lean to this one - excellent all around.
And of course - an Kenny Chesney album is worth it.
R.E.M. - Out of Time (Shiny Happy People is great)
Pankow was superb.. no doubt about it.. Kath,, well, let's just say he died way way to young. The guy was so bluesy and yet had a real edge to his music. Perhaps one of the most underated guitarists of the Rock Era.
My Favorite tune on that album was Introduction... It really showed the range of that band as a whole.
Horrible quality,, Very old tape of the band,,, 1972 in Japan.. but you will get the drift
Well including Compilation Albums...they are up to 36...the most recent being: Chicago XXXII: Stone of Sisyphus that was released last year which(to be honest) I have yet to hear...
42 years with no breakup and no hiatus...hey whether you like them or not...that is a bit impressive...

The Reverend Horton Heat - 'The Full Custom Gospel Sounds Of . . .' This is kick-butt rock-a-billy. Actually they prefer Psycho-billy. This band has a bunch of good albums.
Fugazi - '13 Songs' Underground alterna-punk from the 80s D.C. punk scene.
Morphine - 'Cure For Pain' Alternative jazzy, funky rock. Very unique sound. The only 3 instruments in the 3-man band are various saxaphones (mainly baritone), a bass guitar w/ only 2 strings, always played w/ a slide, and drums. The late lead singer sang w/ a kind of crooner's voice.
Fu Manchu - 'The Action Is Go' California stoner rock. LOVE this band. Very heavy w/ a retro 70s heavy rock sound.
No Break up but they've lost a few members along the way,, Kath to death, Cetera went solo,, I think the first guy who took over for Kath has left also... But yeah, 42 years of performing at a high level,, that can't be easy to do.

Van Halen,...most any, but "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and "OU812" are right there,...not an argument against Diamond Dave at all -- their first albums rocks.
All of the "old" previously mentioned Chicago is awesome, but I have always liked "V" the best. Danny Serraphine is probably the only drummer I just cannot copy beside Neil Peart.
My all time favorite band is Grand Funk Railroad.
KISS !! Poison, Quiet Riot, Uriah Heep, Santana,....AC/DC !!
Rush, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin,....Aerosmith, The Moody Blues,...The Cars, The Who,...Cream. The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Steppenwolf. Montrose.
The Dave Clark Five,...and Paul Revere and The Raiders.
Foghat. Molly Hatchett. James Gang.
Three Dog Night -- never did a song I didn't like.
The Smithereens first album is very good -- "A Girl Like You."
And off the wall, any of you Youngstowners out there might remember Glass Harp and Left End. And back in college, we often got to see a band out of Atlanta called "Mother's Finest."
Van Morrison-Astral Weeks.Blue-eyed soul. Bruce Cockburn-Stealing Fire.An early 80's album that took 60's protest music to an entirely different plane. Lucinda Williams-Car wheels on a gravel road. The voice that melts my heart and makes me think of only one thing. And of coarse Buffett's you had to be there.Pure unadulterated drinking music.
1 or 2 of the guys were in the band botch, although they really don't sound anything like botch, much more easy going, not heavy. great guitar work. davd knudson rocks a prs

On a side note, I was listening to Louie Armstrong's rendition of Mack the Knife today, so did some digging around and discovered the song originally came from Germany... Die Moritat von Mackie Messer

I just heard Wishing Well the other day and Youtubed it. Ricky Medlock looks a little fried.
