I found this on aonther message board - seems like a cool application, and I know several of you download Browns games and other events/shows/movies. Here is a nice way to get them onto a DVD:

For those that need a simple way to make DVD's.

Putting any old video file - like the DivX/Xvid-encoded videos you've downloaded with BitTorrent - onto a DVD to play on your TV can be a daunting task. There's plenty of software that tackles this sort of thing for a price, but as a lover of open source software, free's always my first choice.

Luckily for all of us, authoring playable DVDs from just about any video file has gotten a lot easier in the open source community. This week I'm going to show you how to burn those downloaded TV shows to a DVD you can play in your living room using the free, open source application, DVD Flick.

Here is the guide:

I don't know why I feel aprehensive about clicking a link that says life hacker. I use Winavi, and burn with Nero. What is the name of the application, that is linked.

Actually, I haven't used it yet. I read up on it though, and it seemed legit. I was hesitant to post it without using it, but recall all the past posts about people downloading games, etc., and thought someone other than me may have heard of it and had experience.

The thread is new - I suppose let it run its course and see if anyone has heard of or used it....

Ive had some problems converting with Nero, but when I do, I pull up Winavi, and it has never failed in a pinch. I always burn with Nero.

Certainly worth a look. Thanks for the link.

Several external programs are used by DVD Flick to do the dirty work like encoding and combining of video material. All of these programs are free, some are Open Source too

Interesting. Has anyone tried this? I suppose the only way to understand what other apps one will need to use this is to give it a try. I was a bit surprised that .flv (flash) was among the supported formats, but with the popularity of youtube I suppose it's understandable (although quality will likely suck).

I'm looking forward to an open source release of a decent non linear editor. I checked out SourceForge some months ago in an effort to find an all inclusive editor, but with no luck. Open source doesn't always mean free software (more so the freedom to alter code), but with all the great open source apps that are free to use, I figured someone would develop a decent NLE. VirtualDub is a prime example of a very useful open source linear editor, but the linear limitations create the need to use multiple apps to accomplish a project. In addition, VDub and it's modded cousin, VirtualDub-MPEG2 only render to avi. I prefer VideoRedo when working with mpeg (particularly .vob files from DVDs) due to the advantages of maintaining the format's native codec.

I think copyright infringment would be a difficult accusation to associate this software with. At least as far as getting a favorable decision in court. One could use this to burn one's own content, as well as copyrighted material (such as TV shows as the author of the DVD Flick site recommended). I have each of this year's Buckeyes 12 regular season football games that were provided via BitTorrent by an individual that modded his TiVo to enable DVD conversion. While ABC-TV, the NCAA, the Big Ten and tOSU probably all have copyright interests with this, I have to admit that I would be surprised if any would persue prosecution. Indeed I have never considered this activity either wrong or worrisome.

As far as the "official" board goes, I have no interest in visiting. I have had trouble for some reason in loading this board and did post there the other day to see if any were experiencing the same. They deleted my post...how lame.
