Yeah a very passionate owner dedicated to winning would match our fan bases mentality.

Why is that?

How does Reinsdorf own 2 right now, and possibly 3 when the dust settles over the Phoenix Coyoyes?

This is why Cuban will never own a baseball team. People can be such idiots sometimes!

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban remains as interested as ever in buying the Chicago Cubs, dismissing a report that Major League Baseball might not want him as an owner.

you realize that you need a high percentage of votes from every major league baseball owner to make him an owner? you really think other owners would vote him in?

and that's if it even got to that point. you think the league wants him in? after what he does in his own league? with calling the sport fixed? criticizing everyone including david stern?

you think with baseball, and their roid problem, that they want a guy who could bring even more negative attention?

p.s., that article is from almost a year ago. there is a sale pending as we speak. the cubs have been bought by the rickets family from the tribune co.

Yes, I do not live in a cave and am well aware of that. I was just pointing out to Frenchy why Cuban could never own a team. That, just like you said, he was met with much resistance from the other owners. The article clearly states that in fact, no, the other owners do not want him.

On the flip side though, David Stern did recommend him as an owner to MLB. Whatever his antics are off the court, there is no denying that he is a good owner and is completely dedicated to his team....something the Indians sure could use right now.

most of my post was directed at frenchy, the only part directed at u was about the article, and i wasn't sure if you knew the cubs are pending a sale.

but there is no doubt that i would take cuban, even if it meant that he may make more headlines than his team.

i don't see him wanting the tribe though, who would? unfair market, lackluster attendance, and a team full of prospects.

the cubs are a golden opportunity. despite the fact that they are poorly run, they sell out every game due to the fact that people like having an excuse to get out of work, and it's also a tourist spot.

i can't stand the cubs, or cub fans, but there is no denying that going down to wrigley for a game is a great time. friday day games are the best. take a half day off of work, hit up an establishment in wrigleyville, and start your weekend off early.

and considering their games are broadcast on wgn/comcast chicago, they are always going to be able to have a high payroll.

Looks like We signed Kurz

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With just about six weeks to go before training camp, the Cavaliers look to have just about solidified their roster.

On Friday, veteran big man Joe Smith decided to sign a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks instead of returning to the Cavs, who made a similar offer. The Hawks had been recruiting Smith for weeks and there are indications that Smith have may decided to move on when the Cavs signed Leon Powe last week, threatening Smith's long-term playing time.

So the Cavs have moved on and agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with free agent forward Rob Kurz, a 6-9 shooting specialist, worth $736,000.

The team has been talking with Kurz for about a month and he has spent some time working out in Cleveland already. He played in 40 games as a rookie with the Golden State Warriors last season, with five starts, averaging 3.9 points and 2.0 rebounds. What likely has the Cavs most interested is his 40 percent average on 3-pointers.

They've been looking at various good-shooting big men all summer as they look for an option when teams bunch coverage on LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal.

Kurz has what is referred to in the NBA as a "make good" contract, which means he will come to training camp without being assured of being on the roster. To create a little competition, the Cavs have also agreed to a training camp contract with 6-11 center Darryl Watkins.

Watkins spent some time with the Sacramento Kings two years ago and last year played with TianJin of the Chinese Basketball Association, where he averaged 20.7 points and 5.1 rebounds. He was in training camp with the Spurs last season.

Also on the roster on a non-guaranteed contract is forward Jawad Williams, who was impressive during summer league and has a solid chance of also winning a spot on the roster.

The team is expected to soon sign second-round pick Danny Green and he is expected to make the team, which means Kurz, Watkins and Williams would be fighting for the final two spots.

Losing out on Smith opens the door for J.J. Hickson and Darnell Jackson to win a spot in the opening-night rotation. With Powe out until after the New Year, there are minutes to fill behind O'Neal, Anderson Varejao and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

Hickson's recovery from a stress reaction in his back slowed him since the spring, but he's steadily recovering and expected to be fully cleared by training camp.
