Ravens agreed to terms with WR Drew Bennett on a one-year, $745,000 contract. Bennett stood out among D.J. Hackett, Chris Hannon and Justin Brown during Friday morning's workout. The Ravens didn't hear the answer they wanted from Derrick Mason, so they're forced to cover themselves with a veteran receiver. Right now, Bennett is likely second behind Mark Clayton for fantasy potential among Baltimore receivers. That would obviously change if Mason reconsiders his retirement. That is going to be a weak receiving corps. Isn't Bennett injury prone also.

Yeah he only played one game last year because of a foot injury... The ravens always had a weak rec.corps, but losing mason and replacing him with bennett is surely a downgrade...

I'm not sure if Bennet is injury prone, but I know he's had injuries in his career. Bennet as a player doesn't strike fear into me. Among being a pretty average reciever he can't consistently catch the ball. While he's athletic and sometimes looks very good, he can't be counted on to make plays. As a number 3 WR, he's an option. But he certainly doesn't fill the hole that Derrick Mason leaves

Im suprised they didnt try out Kasper. The workout guru looked good early in camp then when the pads came on, he sat on the sidelines the whole time, injured without his pads on. I guess his career is over now.

Nor should it scare anyone... Drew Bennett has retired.
Drew Bennett-WR- Ravens Jul. 26 - 10:43 pm et Drew Bennett has retired from football three days after he signed with the Ravens. An old knee injury was the culprit. Bennett is just 31, but didn't play in 2008 after breaking his foot for the Rams in Week 1. An 80-catch, 1247-yard, 11-TD wideout in Tennessee under OC Mike Heimerdinger in 2004 (and the overall fantasy WR6 that season), Bennett's career faded slowly thereafter. The former UCLA QB and undrafted free agent finishes with 4,412 career yards. Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter web page
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

he retired already............ This probably makes the ravens open up the wallet and try to entice Mason to come back. Or maybe they make a late play for Boldin.

I don't like the thought of that one, I will say. However, Boldin is going to fetch top dollar, so what kind of salary cap room do the Rats have?

Those two guys aren't bad, but there's probably a reason Joe Horn has been out of the league a while and why no one has picked up a former marquee guy like Harrison. I think the Ravens have some WR problems (considering all they have left is Clayton). I also think their running game has gone downhill and we'll see how their OL does without Ogden (although I think he really fell off his last couple seasons). The key with the Ravens continues to be their defense. Does Ray Lewis have another big year in him? Do their aging DBs have gas in the tank? Can Suggs earn that big contract? While they have some problems, I think they're still a pretty tough opponent. Lucky for us, we get to play them and the Steelers twice a year.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Ravens wide receiver Drew Bennett announced his retirement Sunday night, just two days after signing with Baltimore in an effort to rekindle his NFL career.
Bennett agreed to a one-year deal after a tryout Friday. But he aggravated an old knee injury during the workout, and after returning home to Nashville, Tenn., the 30-year-old receiver decided to quit.
"A previous knee injury flared up, making me realize that I am unable to play another NFL season," Bennett said in statement distributed by his agent, Steve Caric. "Therefore, I have decided to retire from the National Football League."
Bennett's decision comes after Derrick Mason surprised the Ravens by announcing his retirement on July 13. Although Mason has left open the possibility of returning, Baltimore is currently very slim at the wide receiver position.
The 6-foot-5 Bennett played one game with St. Louis last year because of a foot injury. Over an eight-year career, he has 307 catches for 4,412 yards.
He expected to add to those numbers this season, but things didn't work out as planned.
"The Ravens are a first-class organization that I was truly excited to join," Bennett said. "After an offseason of workouts and rehab, I thought I was ready to play again, but it became apparent over this weekend that while my mind is willing, my body will not be able to make it through another NFL season.
"I have been blessed to have the opportunity to play in the NFL for as long as I have, but it is time for me to move on to the next chapter in my life."
Bennett's most productive season was in 2004, when he had 80 catches for 1,247 yards and 11 touchdowns with Tennessee.
When the Ravens open training camp Monday, their most accomplished receivers will be Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams.
