If this shold go in the fantasy and gaming forum, fine, but it probably won't get any tread there...might not here either, but...

Any comic book readers out there. One of my favorite current hobbies is collecting and reading comic books. Right now, the Dark Reign universe in Marvel has me hooked.

For those who used to read, but haven't kept up with it, after the civil war and the skrull invasion, Tony Stark's (Iron Man) tenure as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended in bitter failure and humiliation (the death of Captain America, the passing of the Superhero Registration Act, the failure of all StarkTech) S.H.I.E.L.D. has been disbanded, Nick Fury is M.I.A. (sort of), and (get this) NORMAN OSBORN is now running the show with his version of S.H.I.E.L.D. called H.A.M.M.E.R. (It still hasn't been stated what that stands for) The world has been turned upside down and Norman is now a "hero" WTF!!!!

Anyway, I love discussing comics...so, anybody out there feel like tapping into their inner nerd, and discussing the soap operas for men...please come one board!

I read the News Herald on a somewhat regular basis...does that count as a comic book?

I've got the complete run of "Spectacular Spider Man" From #1 (1965 or so) up until about 1999 or 2000 or so.

Got alot of other old stuff including some early "Iron Man" among others.

Not really a collector but had them as a kid and thought I'd add to it...I'm a hopeless completist!

Being a Spidey fan, you can truly understand how CRAZY it is for Norman Osborn to be head of national security!

The story lines these guys come up with!

It's really quite amazing how long some of these books have ran! It's a tribute to some very creative folks!

I thought Osborn was dead .. alive ... dead .... alive ...dead ... insane .... alive ... dead and insane ..... alive and insane .....

But that was probab;y 15-20 years ago ..... so he's probably died a few more times since.

Nobody actually dies for good in the comics...unless they're a d list hero or villain.

Norman and his son Harry have died countless times. But then again, there have been so many different story arcs, that who can truly say what the actualy Marvel timeline is.

I'm guessing it was the mid to late 90's that there were so many x-overs to get readers to buy other books. I believe it was in the dark days of comics before Marvel movies saved their bacon. It turned me off of the few I read as a kid and had picked back up.

I did get in to the JLA series and the Hitman series pretty heavily. And of course if you've never read Miller's "Dark Knight" well...that was a great book!

I'm not into DC too much. I'm into Batman now, because Bruce is dead, and Dick Grayson has taken over. I like the Teen Titans and the Outsiders as well

I really hate the "death" gimmicks. One day someone is actually going to die for good and some comic book fans are gonna go suicidal.

I read X-Men back in the day ..... the Phoenix saga. It was actually a very well written story, and the reader could feel the pain, love, need, obsession, desire, lust, hurt and courage in that story.

Jean Gray sacrificed herself to save the universe from her own darkest impulses fueled by almost unlimited power..

Then they brought her back. It wasn't her after all.

Bringing back a hero or villian from apparent death can make for an interesting storyline. Having the body ... watching them die ...... burying them .... then bringing them back gets a little old the 73rd time it happens.

Bruce Wayne is dead, you say? Wanna place bets as to whether or not he's "still dead" a year from now?

Jean Gray may have been reincarnated in the form of a little girl. The first mutant born since M Day. The Scarlett Witch bent reality and erased most of the mutants' powers in the world.

Bruce is "apparently" dead. My friend told me he could be trapped in the past.

Marvel created an Ultimate universe...which is where the animated movies came from. Magneto reversed the poles and sent a tidal wave into New York...dead in the aftermath... none other than everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man...they also killed Dr. Strange, Daredevil, Professor Xavier, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, and a host of others

Nah ... I'm talking about the first time she "died" ... way back in 1980 or so.

It has literally been decades since I have bought a comic book.

I used to read them. Mostly X-Men stuff til issue Uncanny # 300 and then just quit. The 90s killed it for me. Prices went up. Stories spanned every single X-Title so Marvel could make more money. Violence for the sake of violence (as w/ 90s movies).

I might pick up a graphic novel here or there. Since quitting comics, I discovered Watchmen, Batman:The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, Batman: The Long Halloween, Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing, Preacher, Sin City, Bone, We3, etc . . . .

Yes, but the first 72 times it happens, it's gold!

Not into comic books, but I used to love the Spider-Man storylines that ran in my local newspaper when I was a kid.

For a while I was into Image comics (Spawn, Youngblood, Wildcats, Pitt) have the first 20-25 of several series of those, then just kind stopped one day. Still have them all bagged and boarded in boxes.

I have a huge stack of comic books in (3) plastic pins in my closet from my teen years. I bet I have around 5000 comic books. I think I stopped collecting when I was around 20.

I got into collecting because of cartoons. I use to watch the Uncanny X-Men show on fox. My brother used to collect the Marvel trading cards and while I was looking at them I noticed The "New" Fantastic Four card had Wolverine (my fav from the cartoon), Spiderman, The Hulk and the Ghost Rider. On the back it said they fought the Original Fantastic Four and Wolverine disfigured the Thing in the battle. I went to my local Comic Book Shop and bought that book and it started my Fantastic Four Collection.

I became a huge fan of the Original Fantastic Four and I now own every issue from #195 to issue #418 of volume one, all 13 issues of vol 2 and I belive it was around issue # 41 of volume 3 when I stopped collecting due to not being able to spend money on things like comics.

I collected many different comics. I have many issues of:

Marvel:
Spiderman
X-Men
Fantastic Force
X-Factor
Avengers
X-Man
The Infinity Gauntlet (one of my prized collections)

DC
Superman (including the entire Death of Superman saga)
Batman

Darkhorse
Star Wars

It's been about ten years since I last bought a comic book though. But I kept every book I ever bought and I have them in a closet.

I read the Japanese mangas which are basically Japanese Comic books., some can be very adult oriented while some are for kids.
Naruto (favorite right now) I would give up a week of sex for a new manga!
Bleach
Gantz (Adult but sooo gooood)
Full metal Alchemist (the manga not the anime)

Naruto is not a kids manga its more of a young adult, also the American Show gives it a badname its it is so much better in Japanese and reading the sub -titles.
