Hey guys... didn't know if you knew this or not but you can get the online demo of Halo 3 if you pre-order the game called Crackdown. I've played the demo of crackdown and i dont think its that great... but it'll get you the halo 3 demo to play online. I'll probably trade crackdown in 3 days later and just put the money towards my halo 3 reserve. just letting the halo fans know about it.

Isn't Halo3 for XBox only?

If it's for the PC, then I'm interested, otherwise I have no interest at all

By the way Project, you were kicking my ass in Battlefield the other night, I had to join your team because you kept picking me off. Im really not that great at the game at all, Im trying though. I usually only play sports games.

Is Crackdown for 360 only?

I refuse to buy a 360 until Halo 3 comes out.

I mean it is really the only game I play(Halo 2), so why bother.

haha nice... yeah, sometimes i get on a roll. I love that battlefield game... about the only other ones i play online are NCAAF and tiger woods golf.

we are trying to put a clan together for battlefield to play against some other teams. So far its me, my brother (El Sweetmug) and my cousin (JP SniperX). I got a couple other names off of Dawg Talk and the Browns Chat message boards so if we can get like 10 people who play once in a while i think we'll be all set.

Bah!

$400 for a console +Games, extra controllers = BS

I'll buy it when Halo3 comes out, at least it will be worth it then.

Is this the game you guys are talking about - http://www.bf.ea.com/bf2mc/home/?lang=us

Just wondering what game it is. I've been playing Gears of War and while it's fun, it's only so challenging. It's really just a race to the good guns.

Halo 3 Beta for All
Chance to play Halo 3 online not as limited as first believed.
by Hilary Goldstein

January 24, 2007 - Millions want a chance to play Halo 3 online prior to its release, which has lead to some stressful nights for fans. With limited openings in the Internet lottery and Xbox Live competition, most gamers must rely on receiving the golden ticket that comes with a retail copy Crackdown. Some have mistakenly been lead to believe that only a select number of copies of Crackdown will contain Halo3 beta invites. This is not true.

A Microsoft representative confirmed to IGN that every copy of the initial run of Crackdown includes an invite to the Halo 3 beta. If you want in on the beta (and didn't earn an invite by other means), purchase a copy of Crackdown on February 20 and you'll be set. You can even purchase a copy on February 21 or even March 15 and still be in the clear. Clearly, you won't be able to purchase a copy of Crackdown months down the road and expect to find a beta invite inside. If you're a bit late the party, just make sure the box is marked as having the beta and you'll be in the clear. Oh, and you'll get a copy of Crackdown to boot. Sweet!

i'd be all about putting together a team for battlefield 2

that game is pure crack-cocaine, so addicting...

gears of war is good two, more close-combat, than battlefield which uses huge maps...

i like the personal touch to a multi player game of gears of war, 4 on 4, it's nice

I am so ridiculously good at Halo 2, that I could probably pickup Battlefeild and Gears of War quickly, if I had a 360.

If MS was really smart, they'd release it for both XBox and PC (requiring Vista of course) and have them be able to play against each other online.

That is the one thing I'm waiting for some game company to do... make a hit game that is truly cross-platform. It'll be out for PS3, XBox360, Wii, PC, Mac, Linux... and all will be able to play against each online. Make the platform irrelevant.

Purp this would reqiure a crazy amount of monitering of some sort. People mod their Xbox's and computers NOW, to mod the games. I can't imagine being able to play it on PC, and have unlimited options to cheat.

no, it's easy to prevent... it's all in game design.

Bungie made a game years ago called Myth... it was pretty much worthless to 'hack' or try to cheat in Myth because if you altered certain files that controlled the things a cheater would want to tweak, you would be unable to join other people's games because files didn't match. There are 3rd party solutions that do the same sort of thing.

Games that are rife with online cheating are typically ones that have cheats built-in to the game and have sloppy or "loose" designs when it comes to modding. If the game is designed the way Bungie games have been for years, then it won't be an issue.

Halo 2 must be on of those "lose" games, because the cheating is ridiculous.

I would love to see that, but it would be counter-productive for them. While they would make money in sales off the game, they would also be removing a reason to buy an XBox over a PS3.

...just something I found on the Bungie site about the Beta:

Halo 3 Beta FAQ
Posted by KPaul at 2/16/2007 1:14 AM PST

Is Halo 3 beta registration closed?

Yes, phases one and two of the beta have already ended. If you haven’t received an email by this point, then you were not one of the lucky few.

Is there no other way?!

If you didn’t get in to either phase, then you can still get in by buying Crackdown , releasing in the US, on February 20 th . Inside every launch copy of Crackdown is an invite to the Halo 3 beta.

How will the Crackdown invite work?

Once the Halo 3 beta has been activated (start date is still TBD) you simply go to the Downloads menu in Crackdown to download the Halo 3 beta. After that, you will need to launch the Halo 3 beta from within Crackdown. You will need an Xbox 360 with a hard drive and an Xbox Live Gold account.

I’m an experienced beta tester with a PhD in Astrophysics and a minor in messaging Bungie to whine about the beta. Why wasn’t I invited?

Microsoft did not choose beta testers based on merit, that would take far more manpower than is realistically possible. Phases one and two were both essentially lotteries or contests. Bungie was not actually responsible for those contests, but rather your local Microsoft Games Studios division. Messaging Frankie, Sketch, KP or any other Bungie employees is futile.

When does the beta start?

The beta will not start when Crackdown is released. The beta will go live when it’s ready, which should be sometime this Spring. The team is currently busy whipping the included content into shape. Our goal is to deliver a fun, solid game experience though it will still very much be a “beta.”

How long will the beta last?

The beta will only be playable for a limited time. Exact timing is still TBD.

Are there multiple phases to the beta?

Not really. The term "phase" applied to the beta registration process. Participants from phases one and two as well as those using Crackdown will be able to get their copy of the beta at the same time. The participants from the Friends and Family program may be able to start playing shortly before the others, however.

What can you tell me about the Bungie Friends and Family program?

Not much, at the moment. As we've said, it's just a method for Bungie to get some of its closest community friends into the beta. As we mentioned above, this program will start at a period shortly before the others, the extent of which is yet to be determined.

How many players are going to be in the beta?

A lot, many thousands. Let's just say, you won't have trouble finding a match.

How many maps, gametypes, playlists, etc. are we going to see in the beta?

Just enough to get the testing data we need while providing a fun game experience yet still leave everyone wanting more. The exact scope is still being finalized.

Will the party system be implemented in the beta?

Yes, you will be able to find your friends, join their party and enter matchmaking with them, in playlists which support parties.

Will we be seeing anything that we have not yet seen from the Alpha screenshots (and leaks) in the beta?

There are bound to be a few surprises in store for fans. And seeing a fuzzy cell phone video of the alpha doesn’t even begin to come close to actually playing yourself on an HD television with maps that are several months further along in development.

Will we see the function of the mysterious X button?

Yes. Whether or not it’ll still be mapped to X is subject to change. And honestly, it won't be all that surprising. Just cool.

Please tell me I get to blow stuff up with the laser.

You get to blow stuff up with the laser. Try lining stuff up and then firing through it all. Preferably without teammates in or around said stuff.

Will we all have to sign NDAs and never speak of the beta? Will you try to contain screenshots and movies coming out of the beta?

Nope. In a perfect world, maybe, but it's hard enough when the participants are just a few thousand MS employees, let alone thousands and thousands of Halo fans. We don't expect anything in the beta to remain a secret. The beta will be covered by a normal user agreement, with lots of caveats about the fact that it's not finished, only lasts for a short time and so on.

What kind of data and feedback is Bungie looking to glean from the beta?

We’re looking for a lot of things. Mainly the kinds of things that you cannot otherwise accomplish without the mass of people we'll have, such as stress-testing all of the backend stuff and networking. We’ll be keeping an eye on our forums for general feedback, but the primary goal is to gain valuable technical information that’s only possible when we have tens of thousands of simultaneous players across the world.

Ya, it took me like 2 hours to hook up with Live.

I disconnected my Xbox, set up my 360. Then i had to re-hook up my rgular xbox because all of the information on my xbox live account was old, like 3 years old. Then I had to find the info in account management, then dowload updates.

It was a pain, but I am ready to roll now. By the time i got it hooked up with was 12:30 am. So I still have to tinker and look around, I didn't see any demo offers or anything. I'll have to check it out....

I bought gears of war with it.

when you get online, go to the "Live Marketplace"

Then go to Game Demo's

There is a huge list of demo's you can d/l in alphabetical order.

Some demo's suck, some are good.

I would d/l the "Battlefield 2: Modern Combat" demo.

Its a first person shooter and the demo you can play online in a map vs other people. Its great for being free. Sometimes I just play the demo against people because I dont feel like taking the time to get up and put the game in.
