I just want to say it one more time, it is like Kenny Rhoda said, you know what you have in Anderson, the only question is what you have in Quinn.
Give Quinn the Whole game, the next game maybe. If Quinn is going to be the starter at anytime this year, he needs to show it in the next 2, or 3 games.
Don't leave any doubt. I'm starting to think, if Brady Quinn can't perform in the next 3 games if given the whole games then he's never going to get it.
If Quinn is inevitably going to be the starter, in spite of being outplayed by Anderson up until now,
Then Quinn needs every single snap !!!!!!!!
What I'm looking for in a quarterback hasn't changed since 2001, I believe it is the Quarterbacks job,
" to lead the team to first downs which become touchdowns "
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

thank you and my point exactly why BQ should be the starter. We need to move the chains. Usually most of DA's work is done with a short field - of course all QBs work better with a short field but more so with DA (thank goodness for Cribbs in 07 ) - DA's wins are almost all against weak teams and losses against the strong teams, Why? Cause Good teams control the Field Position better - Good teams will force you more often into bad field position...needing the movement of chains...Not necessarily Scores on 80 yard drives. But even 2 first downs consistently in those situations will turn the tide of field position over to us.
DA is at his worst driven deep in our zone and way too often in close games Against the GOOD TEAMS we will see a Pick 6 here! On a short HIGH PCT. PASS no less!!!
BQ with his 63% moves the chains better...giving this team a better chance to stay with the Good teams and be competitive. DA will eat up the Lousy teams and Pad the stats and give ESPN plenty of Hi-lites. But just a tad over 50% accuracy will not get us anywhere. Its the same OLD DA.
JMHO
How many points has that 63% led us to again? We are talking about preseason right? You know his 5 starts in the NFL are below 50% right?

This is in YOUR opinion. In MY opinion, Quinn has outplayed Anderson.

This is News to Me! When did this happen, in the Packers Game? I believe that EM says they are even so far. This game should be the one that decides who's ahead and should start...not the lowly Lions Game! JMHO Go Brownies!!!

Yeah I'd agree. Besides, BQ makes me a lot less nervous than DA's Jeckle-Hyde-ness.

You know more about Anderson, but you don't know exactly what you have in Anderson.
To say he's a finished product is flawed.

An inconsistent interception machine with a rocket arm, FAIR accuracy and no touch on short passes??? IS THAT NOT ENOUGH???

Turn it around on Quinn:
Dink/dunker with good accuracy on short passes but failing accuracy in the intermediate range and flat-poor accuracy on long balls. That's fair, isn't it?

I know you're kidding. But just to set the record straight, he'd never do that. Oh, the first part yeah , but if he doesn't come back it would be for some other reason altogether.

Not really. We don't know what Quinn will do after he has the same number of games under his belt as Anderson. Do we?

All we know at this point is the coaches have not seen enough to name a starter. At least publicly.
Now, honestly, if Quinn has not outdistanced himself - shown himself to be better than DA, as much as some on here hate DA and what a terrible, inaccurate, no game management ability, long ball throwing, rocket arm with no direction, idiot, etc etc etc......what does that tell us about Quinn?
That he needs a year of starting before he's any good? Quinn, the former first round pick, the third year player......can't beat out what many call/assume a terrible qb?
My, if DA is as bad as people say he is, and Quinn can't beat him out, we're looking at a crappy season.

I think we are. If they are both so-so then we're in trouble, no doubt. This is why I think we should just give Quinn the nod. We've seen one so-so QB, now let's see the other. Either way, it's a toss up for me. But, all things being equal (at this point), you give the guy a chance.

Well, one thing we can count on: later tonight we'll know more.
Or maybe later tonight the qb discussions will get more heated.

Mangini already said he would do the "guy in, guy out" thing, basically...so, my guess is we may not get a good look at either for as long as *I* hoped we would. But, you're right, we'll either know more or know less after the game.

I gotta know what we have in Brady Quinn. Derek Anderson may not be a completely finished product but we do know he has brain lapses and blows on shorter passes.
Just because Quinn hasn't hit many deep passes doesn't mean he's not capable. For all we know it's a case of the game needing to slow down for him when the bullets are live in order for that to happen because Quinn takes care of the football, unlike Anderson, who's not afraid to let it sling.
Again, I gotta know.

LOYAL... my point on the stats was simply that they are not the same, given the bigger context... Quote:

i have no problem with your support of DA, but this is the kind of statement that draws the ire of others. Quinn has only played in 4 games, and only started 3, all of them last season...and in those starts, his % was 51%. in DA's 1st 3 starts, BTW, he was 56%. there are some real arguments to make in DA's favor...no need to make things up...
Browns fans are born with it...

You are right ...my bad 3 starts and 4 games played..I thought he got the start at San Fran the year before. not intentionally making things up. But he is at 49% for his career in the NFL right? and in 100 pass attempts he has 2 TD's - 2 int's... my bad 97 pass attempts.

If you consider 2 INT's per 100 attempts poor, have a look at DA. He's at almost 4 per 100.

After the three preseason games and our main two QB's performance so far, I'd say we're in good standing to get into the Sam Bradford sweepstakes in the 2010 draft.

For some reason... I am a DA guy...but I want Quinn to be the starter... just to see how it pans out. DA = great drives, until he does something stupid.
I really hope they keep both guys on all year. Ratliff is a joke... If there is an injury to who ever starts, we need the other guy to step in.
Last year was such a joke... Dorsey went down and then to Gradkowski? Ouch...

Why?
I think Quinn has looked quite impressive myself, barring a handful of throws.

I don't understand this. Now I have not watched the game yet, but all I keep hearing is that collins was shredding our defense. Now going by stats him and quinn had almost the exact same lines in every category. So how is it that collins was shredding us but Quinn played like crap?

I have always like DA....since he was in Balt.....but I have always said...he is a guy I would love to be my backup...he can come in....and win some football games....and hold down the fort until my starter is back.
I still see him the same way....He is not my STARTER year in and year out.
Quinn was drafted to be THE MAN....and as long as the both are "splitting" time...it helps neither of them.
Im still of the same opinion as I was in the off season....you trade Anderson for the best offer you get...does not matter what the offer is....and you ride with Quinn for at least this season....with out him having to look over his shoulder the whole time waiting for the ANDERSON HOOK that is hovering.
For better or for worse..either DA or Quinn is done in Cleveland...time to pick one guy and let him loose....if it works...you found your QB...if it doesn't...time to get a NEW QB anyway.

given the performance lately from quinn and given the public sentiment, it makes a lot more sense to have quinn be the starter. i'm very encouraged to read that he's improved this much. my understanding, without seeing the entire game and just the highlights, is he has kept his eyes downfield but made the smart short throws when it came up.
i still think DA can be a good qb but quinn has had solid performances, is loved by the city so mistakes will be endured, and he can continue improve.

Don't think anyone outside of that comment there has said that Quinn has looked like crap. But if you watch the game (I'm a few minutes into the 3rd quarter right now myself), you'll see that Collins was picking our secondary apart. Quinn was throwing a lot of screens. He did have the nice deep ball to Furrey. Haven't made it to his TD pass to Braylon yet but I've read it looked nice.

Are you kidding? We have more glaring needs than drafting another first round QB.
If we do that, I'd be highly pissed off. Maybe our guys aren't the second coming of Joe Montana, but they also aren't the second coming of Spurgeon Wynn.

DA will be happy to make 8 mil and ride the bench... i think BQ gets the starting job... He has to have "a chance" here. And the fans love him. So give it a try. If he sucks, they can bring in a new QB next year. Fact is, we have two very solid backup QBs that are young in town that could probably be starts for several franchises.. keep them both... The last thing we weant to see is a trade of one of our two good QBs for a 3rd rounder or something, then our remainder go down and we have Ratliff (new version of ken dorsey) come in at QB... i want ratliff off the team honestly.. he sucks.

Yeah but in the game day thread a couple of posters were making jokes about not having a QB and being in the bradford sweepstakes next year. Gonna go watch the game now so I guess I can see for myself.

After that game imo a vast majority know who the starter is going to be.
Ruining QB's since 1999.
