Okay. So as a few of you may remember, I moved down to FL and it's been about 5 weeks since I moved here. It's all about moving up and working towards a better future for myself since I couldn't get that in Jackson, MI because the only thing going on there is poverty.... So to get on my feet here I had to start out in telemarketing...

So I worked at this place called Quality Resources for a month. We sold this crappy 14 day trial of a savings program called Budget Savers which we enticed people into trying with $40-50 in gas vouchers to try it as a gift with it. If they didn't call to cancel on the it would be automatically billed to their credit after the trial period at $25 each month after until they did call and cancel.

Well, after hearing no, cussouts, the sound of hanging up, people putting their phones off to the side and not saying anything, the supervisors there YELLING over customers to tell us to get it in gear or else people are going to be fired, the only 2 fifteen minutes breaks for working a nine hour day pretty much, and just having the place RUN my life for a month and hating being there with every fiber of my being.... I finally just quit today. I'm going to try and find work in restraunts again (should be easier now that kids are going back to school and whatnot and my availability is good) and tourism will pick up as the summer closes.

Basically, if I can find something I can remotely enjoy, I'm all about working for it and will put forth a 200% effort. However, if it's something I really hate, I am surprised I survived that long. I really hated it but had to do it for the money.

Also, this is a good quitting. QUIT SMOKING! Haven't had a cigarette in a week and a half and don't feel the need for it at all. I'm freeing up like $75 a month just not smoking so I opened up a savings account and every time I would be buying a pack of smokes, I just put it in there instead! I tell you this might be the smartest financial decision I made in awhile. Soon enough I'll be able to pay off my maxed out credit card and get even better off financially. I just recommend that yes, even though it's difficult to quit, financially and health wise (I've already started to feel a better lung capacity, have much better breath now that's cleaning out, less stressful and moody too now) that it's one of the smartest things you can do.

That's about all. I just had to post/vent about having a job I hate that was ruling my life in a baaaad way, and recommend something also and brag of the quit smoking accomplishment. How about anyone else? Had a job you absolutely HATED or quit a habbit you're super jacked about? Do tell...

Unless you have some overarching responsibility (like a family to support or something), there is absolutely no reason to stay in a job that makes you miserable.

My Dad is of the mindset that you put up with the job even if you hate it. I'm completely different. I don't have to love my job, but I won't subject myself to the stress that goes with going to a place that you dread.

And congrats on quitting smoking!

How can you teach your kids not to be quitters, when you yourself brag about it?

Congrats on quitting smoking bud! I'm going that route soon enough.

As far as you quitting your job, I can certainly see why you did. No point in doing something you hate. Everything suffers when that happens. But just a tip for ya, tourism here in Florida doesn't really pick up when the kids go back to school. Actually, that's the slow season (Sept - Jan). The snowbirds don't come down till Mid-Late January. That's when the tourism starts picking up again.

Good luck finding a job. Hope it works out for ya.

Going a different route. Right now it's bartending school and they do placement (albeit not GUARENTEED, they said it won't be a problem finding me a job as personable as I am and my nature/experiences) so hopefully in 2 weeks I'll be full time again and life will be right back on track and bills will be paid...

Congratulations on quitting smoking! My wife and I had our last cigarettes on March 31st. I had been a pack-a-day smoker for 17 years, and my wife a pack-a-day for about 12 years. We went completely cold turkey, and I have found it much easier than I had thought it would be. My wife has had a bit harder time, but neither of us have slipped up, and with each passing day it gets easier.

On a calendar on our fridge we mark how much money we are saving by quitting, and we're above $1000 so far.

I'm amazed by how much easier any physical labor has become. Like you, I noticed it even after only 10 days cigartette free.

Once again, congratulations, and hang in there!

Nice! I like that idea a lot. I'm gonna use that.

My wife needed tangible proof of how good for our finances quitting would be, so i suggested the calendar. We add $6 a day (a conservative estimate of our savings.) It's amazing how quickly the cash adds up!

Yeah, that's getting close to the cost of a pack down here. Which is my primary motivation. Between Dyna and I, it would probably be more along the lines of $10 a day now with the recent tax increases (both state and federal).

My biggest issue isn't even the nicotine. It's the habit of getting into a car and lighting up. Or right after a big meal. Those two are the killers for me.
