Going to Cleveland to see the Browns opener on Sept 13th and also the Indians Game the night before. Is there any cheap Hotels/Motels in walking distance of these two events that anyone can recommend?

There are several,, bring your wallet
The Marriott downtown
The Renisance (sp)
Those are two that come to mind,,,
Not far but maybe not in walking distance is the Hilton Garden Inn and the
Holiday Inn Lakeside
There is one more, but I'll be darned if I can remember the name,,, very expensive however.. and right off Public Square.. I keep thinking Windam or Hyatt or one of those names..
Cost wise, the hilton or Holiday will be your best deal,, but they are the furthest from both facilities.

I don't know what you consider cheap, but last year for my birthday my wife totally surprised me with tickets to the Ravens game and a Sat. night hotel stay.
She made all the plans - absolutely floored me 3 days before.
I can't remember the name of the hotel, but it was downtown. In an old bank building. Some well known restaraunt was just a block or 2 down the street - some Blues rest. if I remember right. There was a bowling alley very close, and the Browns players stayed in a hotel 1 block away.
The room was nice - other than the carpets - I tend to look at those - and not expensive, at least in my mind - I wanna say it was about $140.

Was it the Hyatt in the old Euclid Arcade? Fat Fish Blue and the Corner Alley are both pretty close to that...

Cheap in a downtown setting is about $100....I have made several reservations as of late....the Hampton was around $125 a night, and the Crowne Plaza was about $140 a night.
You might find cheaper....maybe the Holiday Inn Express...you might get a special around $60

The hyatt doesn't sound right - is that where the players stay? Fat fish blue was just down the street, and the alley was too. I'll ask my wife. She has a memory that..........well, sometimes her memory gets me in trouble......

The Ritz is what you are thinking of....nice property...stayed there a few times, but as a retired man, I try to keep it under $150 a night if I can and am not on vacation.

It used to be one of the closest to the stadium, although I believe there's a Double Tree there now...

The queen has spoken. Holiday Inn Express on Euclid. She even checked our room "key"/card - we kept it because we were walking to eat somewhere, saw the players entrance at the other hotel, and hung out to see them. Then everyone started handing out helmets to get signed, Browns paraphernalia to get signed, and I had on me.....................my hotel key/card.  Is that within walking distance of the stadium? Yes. And no. Depends on how much you like to walk. Again, I think we paid about $140 - but it was almost a year ago, so I can't say for sure. It was one hell of a birthday, though.

Someone I know makes the trip several times a season and uses hotwire. He gets a 4 star hotel (usually the Hampton or Hilton Garden) for around $40. They don't tell you ahead of time which hotel but he says it's usually one of those two.

Not sure Phil,, I thought it was still the Holiday Inn... But I could be wrong.. Probably the best hotel is the Marriott located next to the Key Bank building.
It's about equal distance between CBS and the Jake.. (yeah, I still call it the Jake)

I've had good success using hotels.com or priceline.com to find good rates.

Thanks guys for the help. I went to priceline and got 2 nights at the Renaissance for $158.61 total. That should be great for hitting both venues.

Renaissance is nice. It's probably within a half mile of both stadiums. Short walk (less than 15 minutes) to just about everywhere you would want to go to downtown...

Wow...that is a great rate...$80 a night?? You sure about that...I will have to make some changes.
I have stayed there many times, but as the rate crept up towards $170 a night, I decided I would seek a better value.

Ballpeen - If you ever need a room go to priceline.com and put in a bid. Only issue is you don't know which hotel you are getting for your bid and they charge your credit card as soon as your bid is accepted. I've never gone through priceline before this so I don't know if I got lucky. All they ask is how many stars is the min. of the hotel you want and how much you'd pay. I put in 3 1/2 stars and a bid of $65 and I got the Renaissance. I called the Hotel right away and everything went through.
