My dad and brother will be traveling with me to the opening game this year. We'll be traveling 4-5 hours away, and for the first time, have decided to go up the night before and tailgate Sunday morning.
Wanted to get your guy's opinions on the best area to stay at. Downtown is the best option obviously, but is a lot more expensive, plus the valet parking fee.
Was thinking of staying in the Beachwood area and heading in Sunday morning?
Also, where are the best places for us to meet up to tailgate on Sunday?
I know of the Muni Lot, but how early do we have to get there, and would we then have to leave there and find a closer place to park closer to gametime? I heard the stadium is really far away from there (and we'd have to leave ASAP after thegame to make the drive back)
If not the Muni Lot, where are some other options for tailgating?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

You can hit DTI in the Muni lot. It's not that far from the stadium - if you park there you'll want to stay. Need to get there pretty early to get a spot - the people at DTI are a lot of fun.
I tailgate at the docks right behind the stadium. It is a lot less rowdy over there, more my style as I get older, plus you don't have to get there as early to get a parking spot - since I drive from Columbus that is really nice. I usually get there between 8 and 9am.
You are more than welcome at our tailgate - CapitalGG and SaintDawg are normally there along with some others.

Need to get to the Muni Lot probably before 7:30ish on opening day. They usually close the lot around 8am, and that is usually with a line to get in. I usually get there around 6-6:30am and am in the "middle of the pack."
Good option is to park at One Cleveland Center (looks like a big mirrored chisel) at E. 9th and St. Clair for $5, then walk to the Muni to parktake in festivities. You can easily get out after the game onto Rockwell and take that to E. 22nd to get to the highway while everyone try else to converge onto E. 9th. Veteran move.
Where are you coming in from? PA or NY? Otherwise, no reason to stay on the east side of town. Hotels in Strongsville or Middleburg Hts. are good along the SW side of town on the I-71 corridor.

That is where I parked when I use to tailgate in the Muni lot. Great place to park, cheap, and easy in/easy out.

I'm coming from Cincinnati, so I guess hitting up Middleburg Heights/Strongsville will be the best bet. I'm sure there will be lots of good bars in the area to hit up the Buckeyes/USC game that night. Anyone have suggestions?
As for the One Cleveland Center, that is a good idea.
How far is the walk from the Muni Lot to the stadium?
And if we parked at One Cleveland Center, can we take our grill/cooler, etc and just park it somewhere in the Muni Lot?
I understand that we have to drink our alcohol in plastic cups, is this true?

Yeah, that is true. You can have it in a clear plastic cup even, just no cans or bottles. I don't think that makes sense, but that's the way it is...
Joe Thomas made Justin Timberlake change his name. He didn't want wusses to have the same initials...

I have no idea. My guess is that there is PLENTY of drinking there. It was an attempt at a joke.

M-Heights - good spot to watch the game would be Damons, as it is in walking distance of the hotel area around there.
Strongsville - Johnny Malloys, Paninis, Slim 'N Chubbys are all decent options, although I've had some bad experiences at the latter two that keep me away. I like a little hole in the wall called Dapper Dans when I'm back in S-ville. BW3 on the northern side.
You can wheel your cooler and grill down to the lot, but probably not necessary. Can someone with a grill to grill on, and probably just take a disposable cooler. It's only about a 5 minute walk.
Walk from Muni to the Stadium is 7-10 minutes, depending on when you decide to leave and how far deep into the Muni Lot you are. It's roughly a half mile long (the western 1/4 mile being far superior the the eastern side ---kinda like Cleveland )
Bring plastic cups and you can drink as much as you can handle in the Muni.
