Got on at UPS and was wondering if any one has ever worked for them. Just finished my first week and have to say its super fast paced but so far I enjoy it. Saving up for a new car since my credit is shot but this is something I might want to try to make a career out of. So if you have worked at UPS how long did it take you to move up within the company?

I worked for a company that had the contract to surface candidates for UPS over in Middleburg Hts, Ohio. We would find the candidates, interview them, qualify them, do the background checks, drug screens etc etc.. make sure all paperwork is completed accurately and completely..
All I remember is this, each year starting in September, they hire a ton of folks.. work them hard until the end of the year, then sometime in January, they lay them off. They keep the very best and find room for them.
My suggestion, work your butt off, make no mistakes, follow all the rules,,, and brown will get you green in a year of so. full time employment with UPS is, by all accounts, amazing.

Absolutely. I know a couple people that stuck it out after starting out as part time loaders. They worked their way up to a decent living.

I worked there over winter break in college for 2 years and didn't mind the work. I was a driver helper as well as unloaded trucks. My neighbor across the street has worked for them for about 3 years loading trucks, and is one of the next in line to get a driver position. He seems to like working for them...

They told me that they have a 65% turn over rate. People just dont want to work that hard for 8.50 an hr. I wont be one they let go.

why don't you try FEDEX? They start at maybe $11.50 an hour.
Worked at UPS for 1 day! Went for orientation in dress clothes, they had a shortage of workers and an overage of packages, used me up for over 5 hours. Quit next morning, they called me at 4:30 am, they said are you coming to work?, I said nah I'm quitting!

Good for you. Know what? Get to work on time, do your job with a smile on your face, do a good job, and you'll be head and shoulders above probably 60% of the people that currently work there.
Keep it up. Believe it or not, people that show up on time, do their job without grousing, and do it well........they are the people that move up, because the "ups" see it and realize it and appreciate it.
You will NOT be a boss in 3 months - too many people expect that, and when it doesn't happen, they become the "disillusioned" employee that thinks "ah, this jobs sucks".
Keep your nose to the grindstone. If you do, you'll be surprised where you can go.
