Save me your old jokes. You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In Vietnam his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well Rambo was the best. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118007920.html?categoryid=1238&cs=1Stallone readies for fifth 'Rambo' Nu Image/Millennium Films greenlights pic By DAVE MCNARY John Rambo's officially readying for a fifth mission. Nu Image/Millennium Films has greenlit the franchise's fifth installment, with Sylvester Stallone starring and directing, repeating his duties from 2008's "Rambo." The upcoming project's storyline revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. Production will start in the spring. The film will be produced by Avi Lerner, Kevin King Templeton and John Thompson. Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short and Boaz Davidson will exec produce. Stallone had indicated in interviews that a fifth Rambo was in the works. He teamed with Nu Image/Millennium on the 2008 project, which grossed $42 million domestically and $113 million overseas. Nu Image/Millennium is in post-production on "Expendables," starring Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke. The actioner's set for release on April 23 through Lionsgate. Rambo first appeared in the 1982 pic "First Blood," followed in 1985 by "First Blood II" and in 1988 by "Rambo III."

I still don't understand why he isn't in jail for killing deputies of the law and pretty much blowing up a town.

Jason Bourne could destroy Rambo. And yes, he's too old (and roided up). Quote:

The cops provoked him. Once they turned that fire hose on him in the cell, it was ON! And that cancels out any murder or arson charge. Actually, First Blood was a freaking GREAT movie. Everything after that.....meh.

Nope... The story goes like this...
Rambo, sitting at home on his plastic covered couch, dozing off while watching Murder She Wrote, realizes that he was cheated in that intense Bingo game over the weekend.
After taking a short nap, and getting some energy from a glass of prune juice, he goes to find that lady who cheated him.
But, halfway through, he forgets who he is looking for, so he begins to take out whoever he sees, hoping he will get the right lady.

First of all, it's only a movie.
Second, in the first sequel he was in jail and then his old commander got him out to help with a problem that he had the special skills for. Remember Richard Crenna coming to a prison to visit Rambo and talk him into helping find POW's.
And finally, not that it's an excuse, but he was forced to defend himself after being harrased by that nutbag of a sheriff and his deputy dog wannabes
and one other thing... It's a MOVIE

Agreed, actually was surprised by the last one. But when your expectations are low, it doesn't take much to surpass them. I'm still waiting for Conan: The Barbarians Return

Sly needs to give it up. The last Rambo was horrid. I wanted to walk out of the theater but stayed in the hope of a strong ending. If I didnt love the first rambo's i probably would of left. Lets hope he doesnt want to make another Rocky too.

Ludlum wrote two sequel novels to The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. After Ludlum's death, author Eric Van Lustbader continued the story of Jason Bourne in The Bourne Legacy, The Bourne Betrayal, The Bourne Sanction, The Bourne Deception (2009) and The Bourne Objective (2010).

Actually, in spite of starting this thread, I totally agree w/ you. Although the last one was fun in the ridiculously over the top violence.
I'll take Sly's roided up muscles over Matt Damon's camera trick moves any day.

I heard Damon initially said no to a 4th movie and then changed his mind (I think a $30+million guarantee probably had an impact). I was very worried that the 3rd movie would be bad, it was one of the best. I'm not sure where they'd go with the story since he "knows" who he is and you can't keep having the government bring him out of hiding to kill him (by now they should know not to screw with him).

Agreed. Especially since he busted the whole operation at the end of the 3rd movie. I'm intruiged to see where they go with it from here.

I am also a huge Bourne fan. I also are wondering what they do from here. I hope since it's a different author they don't screw it up like the people did with Bond.
Casino Royal was spectacular but it was also a Sir Ian Flemming novel that was modernized. Quantam of Solice was a half assed peice of garbage that some two bit writer attempted to make a sequal.
As far as Rambo I still havn't seen 4 even though I've heard it was good. I finally saw Rocky Balboa and thought it was ok even though the fact that a 60+ old boxer hanging with a current champ is pretty laughable but it's hollywood so w/e.
And the answer to why Rambo is not in jail was because his Col. took him at the end of First Blood and helped him leave the country. That's why all of the other Rambo's take place in a foreign nation. IIRC

Might as well change this thread to the MANLY MOVIE NEWS thread . . . http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3if39271c89709c28eceb20163c74fc6f4'Bad Boys 3' in the works Peter Craig will write the screenplay By Borys Kit Aug 30, 2009, 11:00 PM ET Columbia Pictures is developing a third installment of the high-octane "Bad Boys" franchise, tapping Peter Craig to pen the screenplay. The hope is to have a script that would reunite director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. At this point, with the project in the early stages, none has a deal to return. The "Boys" movies feature Smith and Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, caught up in cases involving car chases and explosions. The first "Boys," released in 1995, helped launch Bay as a director and Smith as an action star even though it was not a fire-stamped blockbuster -- it grossed $66 million domestically and $141 million worldwide. The sequel, released in 2003 when Bay and Smith's stars had risen, grossed $138 million domestically and $273 million worldwide. All parties have expressed a willingness to return if a story can be hammered out. One potential hurdle, however, would be the costly deals with the players. Craig, repped by CAA and Management 360, co-wrote "The Town," which Ben Affleck is directing for Warner Bros. and which shoots in Boston next month. He is adapting anime "Cowboy Bebop" for 20th Century Fox and Keanu Reeves. One of the best scenes in any movie is from Bad Boys when the young kid comes to the door to take out Martin Lawrence's daughter. Will and Martin play a hilarious "good cop/bad cop" on the kid. To see the vid, go to youtube and put in "Bad Boys 2 date."

I swear Martin Lawrence was blessed. You'd need the IQ of a housefly with special needs to sit through any of the garbage movies he stars in but every 5 years or so, Michael Bay and Will Smith bail him out w/ a Bad Boys sequel that makes truck loads of money.

Yeah I agree Browno. Matins act was kind of funny when the show Martin first came out but after a year or two the antics became repetitive and wore thing. His acting in movies is basically the same thing. Now Tisha Campbell has gotten finer with age KING

That is almost every single actor in Hollywood. They all generally just do one character type, with minor variations/spins.
The true rarities are the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt, etc... that can actually pull off a wide, wide variety of roles/characters. The rest are simply always playing a variation of the same character that they always play (Stallone, Willis, Travolta, Nicholas Cage).

Chris Rock made a pretty decent sized turn in I Think I Love My Wife. He wasn't the loud mouthed character that he is in real life, and most of his movies. He played a very timid guy. I'm not suggesting it was some breakthrough dramatic performance. It wasn't. But he showcased a little more than most thought he had.
Jim Carrey has also offered enough characters to have that title removed from him. From his usual junk to things like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Number 23.

Jim should have been nominated for ESOFSM. That was his "Bill Murray Lost in Translation one in a million chance" at an Oscar. He won't ever get closer than that.
Outside of that, and I didn't see Number 23, he's the same guy in EVERY movie (and I like most of his movies).
Ugh...don't get me started on Nick Cage. Dude is horrible!
Tom Hanks and Leo jump out at me as two guys that can play almost any role. They were gold in Catch Me If You Can.

I think it is just a matter of accepting typecasting for Carrey and Cage. Carrey really is his cliched role, though. He gets to play himself generally. When he has taken chances, he does well.
As for Cage...I want to defend him for Matchstick Men and Adaptation. He was good in both of those movies. Beyond that, though, he accepts the same role in everything. He must save the world. And those movies make money, no matter how blatantly unoriginal they may be. And that means money for his pocket. I can understand his choosing the roles, but it has gone beyond a joke how ridiculous he's been.

Cage is actually a terrific actor...when decides to be. Which usually happens at a ratio of once every 15-20 movies or so. The other 14-19 movies he is downright awful.
He deserved his Oscar for "Leaving Las Vegas"...he was also really solid in "Adaptation". I didn't mind "The Weather Man", either.

Nicholas Cage is really Nicholas Coppola. That's right, he is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew (how does a dude end up with 2 last names anyway?). The dude is a horrible actor and would have never made it had his first movie role not have been in his uncle's movie. The serious actor in Nick said, "You better change your last name, or no one will take you seriously."

Nic Cage can act. Moonstruck. Raising Arizona. Leaving Las Vegas. All great performances. Unfortunately, as someone else pointed out, he only picks crap to star in these days. And gets paid big bucks to be in the crap that is those National Treasure movies.
Wasn't this a Rambo thread at some point?
