The locally forecast temps for the next few days are projected to be in the teens for highs, and the following lows:

Sat- 12
Sun- 5
Mon- 3
Tue- 4
Wed- 5
Thur- 8

Please keep in mind how quickly the cold can cause harm, and be sure to keep the kids bundled up when they go outside for any reason.

Also be mindful of your pets....fresh food/water and proper housing is imperative if they stay outside.

To add: in temperatures like this, animals should be brought inside. At least in the garage, if not the house. They can't take it.

Yeah we should be concerned about animals unless of course it's just a horse.

Speaking of which, how DO you bring a horse inside? In all seriousness, my wife's aunt, probably 35 years ago, DID bring her horse in the house cause it was cold........Lasted right up until her dad came home.....

be concerned, by all means. Just don't make it the lead news story unless that horse has saved mankind from extinction or something else that is actually important....

... that or be consistent and make the euthanization of *every* animal headline news because they're all as accomplished as a horse than just runs really fast, but then the death of every human should rank above that, so we're back to don't make it the headline news

Um, I don't see you guys flipping out when they say a famous person (president, actor/actress, whomever) has died. They are no more important than anyone else.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I figure though if something is on the news that I don't find important that someone must so why make a big deal out of not caring about it.

It's actually smart to put a coat on a short haired dog in the winter. People that dress them up as a regular thing just need help.

That's one of the reasons my little ladies get to stay inside all year round....they don't need to be bothered by the weather and they like being spoiled and pampered inside.

LANCASTER, Calif. - A man and four boys were facing possible charges of animal cruelty and burglary Thursday after allegedly burglarizing a Lancaster home, where a Chihuahua was found alive in a freezer. Video | Images

The dog was discovered when deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff's Station went to the 3300 block of East Avenue K-3 about 9 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a burglary in progress, the sheriff's department reported.

Donald Irvin of Lancaster and four male juveniles were arrested inside or near the residence and were booked for burglary, cruelty to animals and receiving stolen property, the sheriff's department reported.

As deputies were investigating the burglary, the woman who lives in the house came home and told deputies that her Chihuahua was missing. Deputies searched the residence, and found the animal in an "industrial" freezer.

"It was shivering," said Lt. Wallace Fullerton.

The homeowner, whose husband is serving in the Air Force in Afghanistan, said Roxy the Chihuahua is 2 years old.

"I got home and found that they had broken in and taken several things, and locked my dog in our freezer," said Kimberly Holzer, who is pregnant with twins. "She seems to be doing ok. We went to the vet today and they said everything was good.

"I don't even know what I'd say to those people. I don't understand what would even make you think of putting her in the freezer. She's so defenseless."

Holzer said the intruders also urinated on clothes in her closet, including maternity clothes she received for Christmas.

This is the worst possible weather for sibs weekend...

Tonight's gonna be ok (15 degrees, freezing but bundled up I'll live.)

Tomorrow's gonna be ridiculous (8 degrees).

Forget going out for the Superbowl, it's gonna be 0, in ATHENS of all places.

As you get older that kind of weather gets harder on ya. Now you know why I live in south Texas.

It's a simple solution just like the one that I would use if I lived in a haunted house. GET THE HELL OUT!

The more I see and read, about how people treat animals the more I believe maybe us humans are not the smartest of the speicies....

I know this coming from an avid hunter & fisherman might be hard to swallow, but just to let others understand somewhat, last night before our monthly fishing meeting a bunch of us guys went out into a fellows members woods and dropped off 15 bails of food had hay, straw, oats, soybeans all mixed, in to the woods for deer and other animals, filled up his feeders with corn, soybeans and other nutiants animals dont get during this time, to eat during this cold spell, we also drug out about 20 old Christmas tress into another woods three weeks ago for cover for rabbitts ect, during these cold spells. so yes we do harvest animals, but we also respect them and care about them.
