Several things,

OSU is young and I kept telling people around here not to underestimate Navy, they are a good team with a good coach. This game went just about how I thought it would.

I expect us to play to the level of our competition. We'll be in the game vs USC.

Why in the world didn't he kick the field goal in the first place?

pryor made the decision, he is the leader, i thought they would roll TP out of the pocket.

just like the plain dealer said (and myself) this year isnt the buckeyes, its all about next year

2 times they tried a simple run on 4th down. unless they are saving some kind of play for that situation and didn't want to show it, why in the hell would you not use a qb that big and fast for just a few yards?

They should have had Saine in there on those runs, Herron isn't the back that needs to be in there on short yardage.

Tressel like most people probably expected our much bigger offensive line to open a hole big enough to gain a yard or two against that defensive line- disappointing.

And exactly in the same boat they were in at this point last season -- they either have it, beat USC, and the season continues, or they don't, lose and it's season over (in terms of a NC shot).

I have liked the Navy pickup ever since it was announced, knowing, or at least expecting that, as a Service Academy, they would come in here and give the Buckeyes a test instead of these OU, Cincy and YSU non-contests. Yet the talk is still the same,...the Buckeyes stink and will lose to USC by 21. So what. It is what ever it is.

Actually they've struggled against Cincinnati (who has a pretty good program now since Brian Kelly took over, much better than Navy) and OU in recent meetings.

Exactly my point,...they struggled but still won. That did not happen today. They (at least the offense,..) played very well, overcame a couple of huge Pryor mistakes, and still -- it's nothing to worry about because the season revolves around one game. I personally don't care and consider this a nice jumping off point (if not a win) for Navy's season.

The Buckeyes either will, or will not, take care of business next week regardless of what gets said on this board, and regardless of how well or poorly anyone thinks today's game labels Ohio State and the Big Ten.

Questionnable coaching calls the entire game by Tressell starting with bringing in the backup qb before the half only up 20-7, thus completely killing your offense's momentum.

in retrospect, you are correct. at the time i applauded jim's decision to insert the 2nd string qb, but it did turn out to be a mometum killer, pryor should have been racking up his numbers

That did not become a bad decision until after the fact. Even Griese said from the booth that it was a good idea to get Joe B in. Tressel's only real boner was allowing Pryor to get to him on the FG. That was a poor, poor mistake on Tres's part. I was actually then hoping for the impending Navy comeback at that point to put the pressure on these boys and see how they'd react.

This'll go one of 2 ways now for Navy--either no one will ever open with them or they'll get flooded with schedule requests from the Big Boys.

I was glad it went the way it went.

Yes they did, hopefully the media starts talking about how bad the SEC is since of its best teams got beat by the third best team in the Big 12 by two scores. - Kinda like they did when Ohio State lost to LSU by two scores.

I think Sam Bradford just broke his collarbone. BYU player landed on him near the end of the 2nd quarter and SB was hanging his arm (need help off the field). Tough blow to the Big 12.

***I'm not a doctor and I'm only guessing.

I 2nd that opinion, definitely looked like it was a collarbone, although I'm not a Dr. either.

Navy is a tougher play than a lot of people give them credit for.

Bradford didn't play in the second half though. If BYU couldn't beat Oklahoma without Bradford, they wouldn't have a chance against Utah or TCU this year.

I'm not that impressed by them blowing out teams like San Jose St., Akron, Charleston Southern, Louisiana-Monroe, Florida Atlantic, Northern Colorado, and the Citadel.

tOSU scheduled a good Navy team that is a tough play because of the offense they run.

I live in Southern California. I don't root for any college team. I watched both USC and Ohio State play today. I would say that San Jose State and Navy have are about equal. USC had 620 yards of total offense today. SJSU had 121. Ohio State had 363, Navy 342.

A lot of people around here are killing Pete Carroll for starting a true freshman (you'd think people would trust Carroll's decisions by now.) Barkley looked pretty good. As did Corp who also played. Pryor looked good as well, but it doesn't look like he has much help around him.

I don't want to upset anyone because I really don't follow any college teams. But after watching those two games I have this to say...USC can beat Ohio State while throwing less than 10 passes in the game. USC's running backs, O-Line, and defense are that good...again.

We'll see what happens, I hope Ohio State wins because I can't stand all the USC honks around here flying their USC flags. But from the looks of it, USC will blow them out of the water.

And they most probably will,...but that's what most everyone thought about the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl after 2002.

Gotta play it out,...if USC is that good, then they are, and it will show. (I disagree slightly with putting San Jose State and Navy on the same plane,...)

I've never liked Oklahoma early,...they always find a way to lose. BYU's a good opponent, but got lucky. Too bad about Sam.

Alabama's defense is pretty stout. LSU doesn't look much like it's 'rebuilding. ' Cal should present USC some torture,....

I strongly, strongly, disagree. Navy is much better than San Jose State.

i'm disappointed, but a lot of people are saying navy isn't getting the credit, and they are right. navy hung in there. that punt play where we put them on the 1 was a point in the game where they could have folded, they didn't.

they also had some good throwing plays which we all know is uncommon for them.

a lot of the mark may types that hate ohio state anyways are going to pile on, but if anyone remembers 2002, and i'm sure mark may doesn't, they would remember that early in that year they had trouble with a pretty bad cincinnati program (not nearly as good as that program is now) and still went on to win it all.

bottom line is, they may have made mistakes, but the outcome is still good, they still won. and in college football, if you keep winning, you're ok.

on the flip side, i think pryor looks much better. more accurate down the field, more zip on his throws down the field. he's still not quite there. but i think he's gonna have a solid year, no heisman or anything, but by the end of the season, he should look really good, and i think he makes his biggest jump from sophmore to junior year.

he is one hell of an athlete though, and he's turning into a very very solid college qb.

but hey, we'll see next week. nobody can pile on the bucks if they win that game. especially after how good usc looked yesterday.

i believe they can win. it will be tough and they won't be favored, but they can win that game.

j/c....

Everyone is going to hate me for this, but I don't care...

Ohio State has spot talent. They have between 5-7 guys who can start on any team in the country. Then, they have 10-15 guys who would be back ups on teams like USC, Florida, LSU, etc. Then they have a few guys in their starting lineup who might not even have a scholarship at schools like that.

While highly opinionated, those remarks could apply to every team in the Nation that you did not mention.

And sometimes a team that is highly 'loaded' can still be beat. See -- Oklahoma. Their defense should have won that game.

Jevan Sneed is looking bad against Memphis. He already has 2 picks and it's not even half time.

Navy beats them 9 times out of 10. No way are they even.

I'm laughing at my fellow OSU fans. Stop giving up the season after one game! They'll be fine.

I was very disappointed Navy didn't succeed on their 2-point conversion. They played a great game.

I think the game of the week though was the Miami vs Florida State game. As a Gator fan, I hate them both, but it was a great game against 2 pretty good teams.

Fortunately they don't have to play the likes of Navy again... they start their Big 10 schedule soon.

I think you're being VERY generous with that statement. I can only think of 4 guys. Pryor, Heyward, Chekwa and maybe Gibson.

too bad the ACC has to play another team from the Colonial Athletic Association this week.....

CAA already has guaranteed a winning season against the ACC this year....they go for the season sweep as #6 in the country James Madision takes on 0-1 Maryland
