http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2009/09/04/cedar-point-unveils-new-water-flume-ride/

"SANDUSKY — Despite its renown as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” Cedar Point will forgo the coaster next summer in favor of Shoot the Rapids, a new $10.5 million water flume ride that will turn, twist, raise and drop passengers over and through meandering rivers.

The new water ride’s boats will pass through a wooded area and simulated canyons filled with rock formations and whitewater rapids, according to Robin Innes, longtime Cedar Point director of public relations.

“Water rides tend to be the most popular after coasters, and Shoot the Rapids is a return to the old traditional water flume ride, gussied up with special elements to bring it up to Cedar Point standards,” he said.

Construction is expected to get under way after Labor Day, Innes said."

I like the idea, you cant have a roller coster every year and when space is at a premium, it makes good use of the "watery" area near millenium force/mine ride. This looks like a good replacement for white water landing, i always liked that ride.

Looks like the ride of the same name from the 60's and 70's in the Frontier area of the park.

I don't mind getting a little wet from the drop but to just run under a waterfall is not for me at all! It makes your shorts ride up all day!

Sweet. A new ride I'll wait 2 years to go on to avoid the lines.

I'm still waiting for them to come up w/ a ride that takes you out over, or even down under (tunnels) the Lake Erie.

Nope, there was a Shoot the Rapids ride in the sixties until I think White Water Canyon was built on the spot.
(oops, it is Landing not Canyon)

Looks kind of tame for Cedar Point. What else are you to expect from an old-fashioned log plume ride.

Its one Big hill, one little hill, and some splashing water. Not too impressed. Don't they still have Snake river falls----or whatever its called. Its like one big hill and everyone gets soaked. Isn't this kind of the same thing but on a smaller--less impressive scale.

I am thinking manybe the animation doesnt do the rides speed and intensity justice because just looking at that it looks pretty tame.

the thing is, every ride doesnt have to go 90 mph, cedar point still has to maintain itself as a family park. If all the rides were 400ft it wouldnt be the park it is today. My only concern is that you get drenched. No one likes to walk around an amusement park soaking wet, well at least no one over 18.

A good park needs a good water ride....the ions are cooling and a little splash factor is always welcome on a hot summer day....a little I said...nobody should come out drenched because they drew the seat that goes directly under the waterfall.

I'm not sure there's a dry seat on that whole ride after watching that ... You probably start off getting acclimated by sitting in a puddle.

I may just start hanging out at the exit, that could be more interesting than the actual ride.

I agree. I dont think that ride is worth $10.5 million. I guess they are tring to build up the water part of the park but when you ride one ride like that, you rode them all. Its already like the log ride they have or had with an extra hill that has a lot of rocks that make it look like rapids. They have something similiar in Disney with the Briar Rabbit. Im not impressed at all. The old rapid ride at Geauga Lake looks like it would be more fun then this ride at $10.5 million They could have come up with something better. The rapid ride they already had looks way better than this.
