Well, it's warmed up 20 degrees already since I woke up at 6 o'clock this morning.

Of course, the temperature at 6 a.m. was 2, so it's not beach weather or anything out there right now!

The suns was out but it's 14 here along the lakeshore in Willoughby. Feels like -4 with the wind.

I'm a little concerned. I just got done working out in my garage & I have about $15k in weights, machines, etc. out there. I heat it with one of those kerosene tube-like heaters when I train. The garage is completely enclosed except for the small gaps where the roof slopes down & hangs over the side walls (so air does get in). My concern is that I have these dumbbells that change for 5lbs to 130lbs with the pull of a pin. After the garage starts to heat up, the weights start to "sweat". When I was done doing my leg workout, I went over to grab the dumbbells & after the "sweating" had occured, a thin coating of ice started to build up on the dumbbells. This has never happened before. I'm afraid if it gets too cold that the stuff could rust & that was a MAJOR investment!!

Then stop storing the stuff outdoors

If outside air can freely come in, all you've done by putting it in the garage is put a roof over it to keep snow & rain from directly getting to it. Either plug the gaps and create more of a controlled environment (and even this isn't an ideal solution) or move the stuff indoors.

If you're REAL worried about rust, spray some WD-40 on them.....just make sure to clean them off before you lift next.

Seriously, spray them, it will displace the water, and prevent moisture from "sitting" on them. And it won't make them "slippery as hell".

***NOTE***

*** Do NOT Plug All of the gaps is you are using a Kerosense or other burning type heater out there ******

Just had to add that... don't want to be reading about a fellow Dawg on the Darwin Awards

..WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST SUNDAY... ...WIND CHILL ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SUNDAY TO 1 PM EST MONDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CLEVELAND HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST SUNDAY. THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SUNDAY TO 1 PM EST MONDAY. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL DEVELOP TONIGHT AS ARCTIC AIR FILTERS INTO THE REGION. ACCUMULATIONS TONIGHT WILL RANGE FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES.

IN ADDITION...WEST WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT 25 TO 35 MPH TONIGHT CAUSING DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS AND SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW ALREADY ON THE GROUND. THE AIR TEMPERATURE WILL DROP INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS TONIGHT AND REMAIN THERE THROUGH MONDAY. VISIBILITIES WILL BE REDUCED TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES. WIND CHILLS THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS MONDAY WILL BE FROM 10 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN STRONG WIND WILL COMBINE WITH COLD TEMPERATURES TO CREATE DANGEROUSLY COLD CONDITIONS FOR EXPOSED SKIN. THE WIND WILL MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS 10 DEGREES BELOW ZERO OR COLDER FOR A PERIOD OF SEVERAL HOURS. IF YOU WILL BE OUTDOORS USE COMMON SENSE AND DRESS WARMLY...MAKING SURE THAT ALL EXPOSED SKIN IS COVERED. IF POSSIBLE...AVOID PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THE COLD TO PREVENT FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA.

This is a pic I took of the lake this morning freezing in spots. When I went out last the shoreline is now frozen out a little ways from all the big waves that came with this damn wind.

The lake freezing over is good news for you people out in the snow belt. It doesnt help as far as the temperatures but it helps as far as amounts of snow. With the lake frozen over lake effect snow is not a factor because the winds coming across the lake cant pick up the moisture.

Right now on the west side it is a whopping 9 degrees

My lab wants to go out and play in the snow though.

Very true. The sooner the better b/c I have had enough of the snow. Well, snow doesn't bother me unless I am driving in it, but this *bleeping* wind and wind chill I can so live without My apartment is so great in the summer with the lake breeze, sunsets and thunderstorms over the lake, but in winter it's pretty much torture.

They keep extending the wind chill advisory, it was through Monday and now it's throught Tuesday, with the chill expected to hit -20.

A fireplace would be just the ticket! The best heat comes from wood.....

A hot tub would be nice too, methinks.

I've always said that when it gets below 10 degrees, it's all the same.....downright cold!

Can't tell much of a difference when it's 5 or 15 below......it's all the same.

-1 w/-22 wind chill here. Perfect weather to build a nice fire. Damn I want a house
Here is my new Lake Erie shot. It's amazing how fast she froze over, damn!

One thing I do like about winter for some reason is the smells. It just smells fresher out in winter and I love that fire smell. Again, I wish I had a house

Yeah it does. We bought some nicotine gum and I have been chewing that so I don't have to go outside to smoke. The wind off the lake has been murder. I may decide now is the time to give it up, but it's going to be tough.

Our dog Lucy is no sissy, but she wasn't out for 2 minutes before she started picking up her feet from the cold. She was limping when I let her back in. Keep an eye on your dogs when you let them out, folks - their foot pads freeze up fast.

The cold still doesn't really bother me, but I have been cutting back on my smoking. I have been talking about it for a long time, but I just can't quit cold turkey. I am however down to 9 smokes a day, and shooting for 8 a day for next week

Awsome man, congrats! Good luck to you. I don't really have the want to quit, though I know I need to quit. I have cut back a lot though, esp since Sophie was born. At work though it tough b/c I can take a smoke break whenever I want.

Thats what I have to get past, the want part. Honestly, I don't want to quit yet but know I need to quit. I just have to break the routines, like a smoke after I eat, a smoke before/after class, before and during work, a smoke while dropping the bomb I get past that it's all gravy!
