T.O. says Quinn will be the starter in Cleveland Posted by Mike Florio on September 9, 2009 2:54 PM ET Well, the cat has gotten out of the bag.
But the word comes from the last cat we would have imagined.
Terrell Owens has posted on his Twitter page a congratulatory message to Brady Quinn for winning the starting quarterback job in Cleveland.
The easy explanation is that one of Owens' friends plays for the Browns, and that the friend blabbed to him about it. It's also possible that agent Drew Rosenhaus learned the identity of the starter from one of his clients on the team, and that Drew told T.O.
Or BO could of read the same thing everyone else did an hour ago and is going to assume like the rest of football world that it is Brady.

Seriously. Does it really matter though?
I really don't care who the QB is, as long as we win games. I just want to see Quinn play a full season and see where we are at the end.

During the 30 minutes of practice during which the media was allowed to watch, Quinn participated in handoff drills to the running backs. Anderson didn't participate in the drill.
Hehe, a classic example of how a writer can skew the facts to present the image that they want the reader to have. How? Anderson didn't participate in that drill because Anderson was doing passing drills with the WR's during that 30 minute span.
This guy must have gone to the Roger Brown Skool of Gernulism.

One thing I was hoping for with Mangini is that we would cease to be a laughingstock. This whole stunt has put us right back in the forefront as a franchise that people can just sit back and laugh at. We need no other proof than it is a major headline right now on every major sports website there is.
What a cluster. It's obviously more important to play head games then to just call it like it is, line up, and play football.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Aww come on, don't put too much stock in this. Most of these media types are just mad that Mangini didn't annouce it too them. The only people that need to really know is the team. And they know.

Not even close. This does not make us a laughingstock, not by a long shot.
This is the lead story on every site because:
1. They don't have much else to talk about. 2. It is a QB story - the media loves them some QB stories. 3. The season doesn't actually have anything to it until tomorrow nite, and they need something to write about. This time on Friday this story won't be but a footnote, and won't be much beyond the lead-in to the post game articles after Sunday. 4. We're in a bit of a spotlight because we have Mangini and Favre is coming to town. 5. It is current events - Mangini just told them the other night, and there was just a Press Conference with all of them less than a couple of hours ago - it JUST happened, thus there is nothing newer to talk about.

Maybe all this leaking of info is "on purpose". EM is cleverly using the Media, Internet, and TO to mislead the Vikes so they have to overhaul their defense from playing a deeper cover 2 to a mid-range cover 3.
It might be all a misdirection so the Vikes don't prepare for DA, all we have to do is fool each team we play on who the QB is so it completely messes up their defense.
16-0 baby.

Browns coach Eric Mangini told the quarterbacks Tuesday night and Quinn took the first-team reps in practice Wednesday afternoon.
Quinn acted Wednesday as though he didn't know. "We're just out there continuing to battle with one another to get everything better for our team,'' he said.

Cause TO has an obsession with wanting to come to Cleveland. So he keeps close tabs on us.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

As I said earlier...anything close to a tie was going to go to Quinn because we just don't know what he can do yet.
I support the guy 100%...lets go Browns.

Isn't Mary Kay also the one that got her chain thoroughly yanked about us cutting Jamal? Seriously, she bought that wopper hook, line & sinker (and so did a lot y'all). Of course if she just "happens" to be correct it will have spoiled that little surprise Mangini was hoping to spring on the Vikes. Not that it was some great mystery anyway. If I was a Vegas odds maker I'd have given BQ twice the probability of starting under center over DA.
Would it be shocking if, because Mangini wants to preserve the element of surprise DA was the one trotting out on Sunday. That actually would be shocking. I think he'd get rattled but it would be shocking.

Umm... read em, NFL.com, FOX & ESPN.com are just shuffling out the same AP story, with ESPN updating it to include a reference to Mary Kay's, who only references the media whore T.O. and his Twitter message.

I'll be willing to be all of that stems from the report earlier that DA may have let it slip when he said "the rest of us has to prepare".
But seriously, I felt it was going to be Brady before preseason hit. They are going to look at the kid to see if he can be a starter. DA has proven to be a solid back-up caliber guy that can win you some games.
Is Brady a starter, back-up type guy or a guy that will be out of the NFL if a few years? We can discuss that in January.

Did Derek Anderson tip his hand when asked about the Browns quarterback situation?
Leave it to Anderson to botch losing the job.
The only QB I ever saw get called for a 15 yard penalty while standing on the sideline That ref was pissed. He wouldnt have threw the flag if he just saw Anderson outside the box and didnt trip over him At least it happened to Cleveland in pre season so they can make sure it dont happen in the regular season.
Maybe Anderson did it on purpose to stop Brady on his scoring drive or so the Browns defense will stay on the field longer to give Brady less chances to win the job. I cant remember when it happened actually but it was funny none-the-less. That ref had the flag ready before his rump hit the ground Even Bernie knew the ref threw it because he felt salty. DA should have been with his teammates being a leader pointing things out what should have happened to make the play work better instead of standing around with his arms crossed.

I'm not happy that the media had to go and blow Mangini's cover.
What the hell is it about the words INTERNAL BUSINESS can't they understand?
Seriously, let's let our coach do what he pleases. He can do no wrong in my book.

j/c I have to think that the Vikings are so happy to know (kind of) what they likely already suspected. Well, at least we have an excuse if we lose Sunday. "Our big strategy was foiled!!!"
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I'll play your game... I agree completely. It IS internal business.
It is HIS team, not Mary Kay's, not WKNR's pathetic, whiny asses, not Rome's wanna-be sorry sack's. The information is HIS to control and the media only has a right to know what he permits them to know.
If his decisions turn into poor results, he will pay for it with his job. The Owner and/or GM will make that decision... not a bunch of hack journalists that can't even proofread their own work 90% of the time.

While that is true....The Vikes have the better defense, offense, RB, QB (as much as it pains me to say that), and possibly coach. If the only "competitive advantage" we have is the secrecy of which QB will take all the snaps on Sunday...we are in MASSIVE trouble. Because its laughable to think it's even a "competitive advantage" to begin with. Talk about drinking the orange-flavord kool-aid.
Once we announce the starter, which has to be for the rest of the year or else we become a college team changing QB's every other series, we have to play the other 15 games with the other team knowing our QB. So, even if it is the some tiny, tiny, tiny advantage keeping it a secret, the other 15 opponents will be ready and we'll have to play them straight up. I like the, "here's our QB, do your best to beat us" method. No hiding, tricks or secrets. Man up and play.
