Snow's different.

You will drive around in 3 feet of the stuff but complain because it is cold.

I can see not working outside......I saw where DPG actually walked around the block, then came in and is now typing....looks like his fingers didn't freeze up on him during a 20 minute walk.

You don't "have" to look at anything.

Does it bother you??

I just find it abhorrent and repugnant the insinuations that people aren't smart enough to take good care in the winter. MY GOD, this isn't the first time it's ever been this cold, and it has been a lot colder.

I agree with what you're saying about it's "not the first time it's ever been this cold".

But Jeesh,it snows every damn year. But the first snowfall? Seriously, you have to know ehere I'm going with this............

EVERY year, the first snow, people act like they've never seen the stuff! They try driving 75 miles an hour and passing people like the roads are perfectly clear. It happens every year, same thing.

Besides,I've been in construction most all of my life, much like farmers,we have to plan and schedule with the weather firmly in mind. So it's very much a habit of mine to look at the long range weather forecast. I knew this cold snap was coming and was fully prepared for it.

But what about the many people who's job is in no way affected by the weather? Do you really believe everyone watches the long term weather forecast? I sure don't.

A friendly reminder and sharing cold weather tips with other posters is a great idea! Not everyone works constuction,is a farmer or drives a tow truck. Some people's "weather interest" only goes as far as tomorrow. Doesn't mean they're stupid,it just means that their life and livelihood doesn't revolve around the weather.

And if it's "so dumb" why are you reading it and responding to it?

And to add....I was just informed by my brother that we are now forecast to receive a fresh 3-5 inches of snow on Wednesday.

I had not yet heard this, so it was news to me, and interesting to say the least.

LOL.. the folks that get me are the ones in the DC area when it's announced that we are going to get 3" or more, they rush out and drain the grocery stores of bread and milk..... I've lived in areas where snow lasts for weeks and roads can be bad for long periods of time.... I lived in DC for close to 2 decades and never saw a snow where the roads weren't cleared in 24-48 hours... Do these people not have enough food to live for one day? Is it essential to get to the store before the 5" blizzard hits? which will be gone in a day? That always cracked me up...

I just want to remind everyone that drives to replace the summer air in their tires with winter air. Also, don't forget to check your blinker fluid. Oh, and remember to keep your head covered - in case you didn't know, 73.4% of your body heat exits through the top of your head. Even more if you're follically challenged, like me.

As long as you protect those extremities from frostbite ... you could lose an "appendage" long before hypothermia sets in. You don't want that ... almost as much as we don't want to see you naked.

I agree. Cold and colds might have the same name in common....but that is where it ends...If you want to avoid colds when it is cold outside, go outside more to avoid people.

Exactly....there are fewer germs outside when it's cold than there are inside. I just love the "you'll catch a cold" crap. Ummm, noooooo, I might BE cold, but I won't catch one, thank you.

And my old high school coach advises that if anyone ever decides to ski naked,on such an occasion you should "check your package" from time to time.

WOW nothing gets past you does it? That was my point . I find it ironic that you needed to tell us that it's cold and how we should handle it and how we should be concerned for our animals unless of course it's JUST A HORSE.

Spare me.

It's only 52* today...had the grandkids visiting for the weekend. Unfortunately I forgot that there were things worse than freezing cold weather, namely the grandkids and the dogs having a "bark off" to see who can make the most noise. Thank God for the movie "Happy Feet"
