Overtoad, Yeah, you're right, BE shouldn't be expected to intuitively react to situations that pertain to the position he has been playing for the last 10 years of his life....my bad.

Can you atleast edit yours.. Winslow got a new contract.. and he's no longer a Brown..
Not for the Browns he didn't, and he dropped a crucial pass in the 4th today for the Bucs. Furthermore, neither did Edwards, and until he plays a full season showing he's going to keep his head into the game, I'm not going to change anything as it brought the Browns good luck.
Besides, there's a difference between making a football statement and having the wrong Michael Jackson in your sig

I'll entertain the excuse that this is a transition to a new system, but one quality that I want in a quarterback is fearlessness. Quinn is afraid to stretch the field and trust his receivers. I'm all for being methodical about your throws and approach to exploiting the defense, but checking down constantly will not get you the win. Take some efing chances with the ball.

Setting that aside, how much time does a QB need to learn accuracy?
Well, how many games did Anderson get and he still couldn't accomplish it? If Mangini and Company made any mistake, it's not getting a real QB. If Quinn isn't it, Anderson definitely isn't it. I still think we need to see the real BQ, though. Today wasn't it...the coaching sucked worse than any member of our team.

DA trusted his WRs.. and it got him benched.. could have something to do with it..

Which is why I supported Quinn getting the job.
However, if Quinn can't be any more accurate than Anderson, then Anderson needs to be in the game, as at least he can threaten the defense vertically and has more experience, nevermind saving the Browns millions of dollars in escalator-clause money on Quinn's contract.

If Quinn fails and we don't start at ground zero then this entire staff needs replaced! We can ill afford another year of this QB nonsense!

You're trying to get Diam out of his self-imposed exile, aren't ya? Quinn didn't play great, but he's not why we lost today. The game plan was putrid. Two shots inside the 5 and we run the QB draw, with Cribbs in the wildcat, two plays in a row? That's crap. Mangini's gameplan hamstrung the offense today. BQ didn't lose the game today - he didn't win it either, I'll give you that - but the play-calling from the bench was awful.

That's an OC that doesn't trust his QB. I didn't like the 2nd wildcat call before the ball was snapped, and liked it even less after I saw what happened.

I don't have to do that. He won't be able to stay away. You can bet he's already read the board and is itchin' to post. It's just a matter of time before he comes to defends his boys honor *L*

The only argument he'd be able to make is time and experience, and that would be valid.
It wouldn't change the facts of today, regardless of the reason ... putrid, atrocious, pathetic ... pick your adjective.
I still think he is going to get it turned around ... although the inaccuracy makes me want to change the verbage from "think" to "hope".
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

OK 2 things.. 1) There is no reason for us to run the Wildcat when all we do is run Cribbs up the middle.. Hell, I know what's coming when he is in the game, what do you think a pro D cordinator is going to do?? 2) I hate the whole "doesn't trust his QB" argument.. If you don't trust him, he should not be in there.. Quinn is the QB, open up the damn playbook and let him play...

I still think we need to see the real BQ, though. Today wasn't it...the coaching sucked worse than any member of our team.
I think today was the real Brady Quinn, this game most encapsulated his play since the start. This is who and what he is, It's not all bad, he just needs to throw downfield more often.
I think the original page of this thread, the consensus is the team needs to stretch the field, use the WR's as an offense. I think Quinn showed today everything he's shown since his debut, good and bad, he should be credited with 2 tds, but he did what he always does.
To say that's not the real Quinn.
Are you saying Quinn will never really be Quinn until he plays like Elway, or Marino, and if he does one time then that will erase every game previous?
Take off the Quinn colored glasses, this team has to win with the real Quinn not the Quinn that exists in every fans minds, expectations, and hopes.
He played well, hit the Wr's more next week, and continue the pass protection, stay balanced and the offense will get fixed.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I don't wear those, but thanks for the advice. I want a QB that looks decent. After last season, and after today, we don't seem have one of those. The thing is, I'm not ready to ship out BQ just yet like most here are. DA got FAR more time to prove he can't handle the NFL...I'll give BQ a few more games.

And the coaching and team play didn't have anything to do with why Anderson has played poorly in the past?
It amazes me how since Anderson and Quinn have been here Anderson gets the shaft and Brady get's a pass from 90% of the fans. Not really directed at you, it's more of a statement.
That is the one thing I absolutely cannot stand about Quinn. The fan base is so madly in love with the guy and are so desperate to find a great QB that no matter what Quinn does he get's a free pass.
I boldly predict that the fan base is going to be screaming for Anderson by week 5. But I hope i'm wrong I hope he does do well, but I just don't see it.

Dude, you have GOT to be kiddin' me with that?!?!
You think Edwards actually had time to consider whether or not he should re-establish himself in bounds, choose to do it, get both feet in, THEN reach for the ball.
reason why they need to edit that rule.. Edwards was progressing in bounds to catch the ball after the pass interference, its not his fault he couldn't plant his other foot before he caught the ball...
I'm w you on that. He caught it off the turf as it was. He didn't have the time to "establish" himself and catch it. When forced out of bounds by the D, you shouldn't have to establish yourself again. Just be "not out of bounds".

It may not get much better next week.....the Broncos have a very good secondary. They shut the Bengals down today, Plus its on the road.
Maybe Quinn will settle in better....I've been supportive of Quinn because he has what counts up stairs, and DA doesn't. Quinn got out of some bad plays today into some good run plays.
That being said, his accuracy was bad. I don't really care if we aren't throwing the ball 25 yards every play. I don't think there was much open downfield today, which is why Quinn didnt attempt many deep balls. I'm concerned that his accuracy at any level, short or long, is not good enough at this level.
Our play calling was very bad, and I don't think Quinn was adequately prepared this offseason. Plus he was playing a tremendous defense, that pretty much knew what we were doing because we were not balanced in our play calling and formations. He had some things that were not the best, but thats not an excuse for his play. I think those factors however did effect him.
Quinn played bad today, the accuracy thing is not something to be taken lightly. Its serious. the question is going to be, was he just off his game, nervous..etc. Or is he going to struggle with accuracy all the time?
We'll find out, not ready to start burying Quinn yet. I wanna see atleast 5 games.

Today was the first real test for Quinn. He had a real training camp, he got plenty of reps with the first offense, he got some solid play from the offensive line and the running game. So what did we get?
Jack-squat.
Lemme tell ya sumthin'..........All the game-management and mobility mean crap if you don't know where the ball is going, and so far in his NFL career, Quinn has no CLUE where the ball is going past the fifteen-yard mark.
I'm not going to call for Quinn to be benched or suggest we have to draft a new QB yet, but if Quinn doesn't show at least average NFL accuracy by the fifth or sixth game, I want him benched. This is his third NFL season. By this point, he either has "it" or he doesn't. I can EASILY forgive lack-of-experience mistakes with such things as failing to read a proper defense or holding onto the ball too long. Those are the mistakes I fully expect Quinn to make over the first half of this year. However, lack of experience won't make you INNACURATE, and that's what we've seen from him so far in his career.
I supported going with Quinn because Anderson didn't beat him out in camp. I also supported Quinn because we paid a high price to get him, and we need to see what he's got. Most importantly, I supported Quinn because on a team that isn't ready to contend for the division title, I recognize the importance of letting him learn on the job. HOWEVER, if he can't develop even marginal NFL accuracy, then he's a wasted selection and investment. If that's the kind of accuracy he's shown in practices, then Mangini may have made the wrong choice and should have gone with Anderson. At least his accuracy exists downfield. No team is going to fear anything Quinn does past the "dink/dunk zone" so they are gonna cram the box.
To me, he has about four or five games to show REAL accuracy, not this inflated BS accuracy that guys like Tim Couch were able to fool people into believing he had.
It takes time to develop a QB in this league. I remember the Mannings and countless other signal callers in the NFL around their 4th start. That Minnesota defense was a tough draw. Terrible post. Some Cleveland fans will never get it. Bring Sam Bradford in here so we can hear the same thing after 4 games. The fans are tired of the losing and that is what leads to many of irrational and uninformed posts like yours.

Accuracy doesn't need to be developed and Quinn isn't new to the league. He is a 3 year vet, not a rookie.

Okay, and I'm sure he'll never have a 21/35 day in his career (let alone in the next month or so) in which he doesn't play all that great and loses to a superior team..... gimme a break. You're only as good as your current week in this league. Sanchez would have fared similarly today in Cleveland Brown and Orange.

Nah, your wrong. He has 4 starts. Three more then rookies. If Quinn is given the time to develop then QB won't be a concern on this team.
For all the talk of accuracy, he hit on 60% of his passes with approximately 6 or 7 drops to go with it. This wasn't his ceiling by any means. But it's easy to understand why he was subpar.

A Troll? That's a weak way to debate isn't it?
This is just getting silly now. How many young QB with 3-10 starts air it out at first. I remember big Jen dink and dunking his first couple of years. I do not remember Tom Brady airing out all the time as a rookie. I don't know the 44yrd TD he threw to BE looked pretty darn good, (I know it got called back). The scoring throw to Royal was nice even if it was too little too late. After all this I still would rather have a QB like BQ over a gun slinger that can throw the ball any where like DA.

yea, i hate having a qb who can throw the ball anywhere. i ONLY want them to complete passes under 10 yards. especially when down 3 scores in the 4th quarter.

It's not like he had time to look, adjust and go from there. Geez, dude, you ever play football? The ball was coming. Sorry, you don't get a chance to call time out in the middle of a play.
BE made a great play on the ball. He was interfered with. What the hell should he have done?

Watching the bears/packers game right now? Jay Cutler is 4 for his first 11 passes and has thrown a pick and could have thrown 2 more. Maybe Chicago should think about drafting a QB this upcoming draft.
It's the nature of NFL fans today in general, but Cleveland fans take it to a whole new level of judging a player, a coach, etc. drive to drive and play to play. The losing has made many of you impatient. And that's sad all the while understandable.

I could complete 60% of my passes if all I had to do is check down on every play.
Quinn hit that 60% mark against Minnesota's scrubs ..... in a lost game ...... after going 7-8 on the final, meaningless drive.
BFD
Quinn didn't have "6 or 7 drops" today. I can remember 1 legitimate drop, and that was a pass that Royal absolutely misplayed.
When the game was winnable, Quinn was somewhere around 4 yards/attempt ..... for something like 70 yards. His 1st reaction is to check down ... no matter what happens on the field. It was a very Frye like performance. I am extremely disappointed ..... but do think that he deserves another few weeks to try and get his performance turned around. He gets a weak ass Denver team next week .. but then must face the Ravens. Then he gets an average Bengals defense. That's 2 good defenses and 2 average or poor defenses.

I tend to agree with the general premise of Toads post except it's way to early to call for a change. Maybe Quinns accuracy improves as he gets more playing time and conquers the yips or maybe not but I've seen enough of the goober with the giant feet so say if Quinns not the answer Koko needs go find somebody else. This QB debacle has gone on too long already. We weren't going to the playoffs anyway and I don't give a hoot about Randys money. Let Quinn play a season and go from there. On the upside looks like we have TWO second string type QBs

1 other thing that bothers me ......
When Quinn was drafted, he was touted as being "NFL ready". That was 3 years ago. In 3 of his 4 starts ...... he's appeared to be anything but ready.

Is this thread a joke?? Give the guy some time...you certainly gave your guy enough time, didn't you?
Couple of things. Quinn isn't a rookie. (look at sanchez, look at flacco or ryan last year). He's been on the sideline for 2 years - he even started a few games last year. If he can't do it by now, he never will.
What's he do? Dink and dunk. Even late in the 4th quarter - he takes the easy completion for 4 yards when we needed 2 touchdowns.
He's not a rookie. He needs to throw the ball - and I don't mean throw like I do with my 9 year old daughter in the backyard. Throw it like you're an NFL quarterback.
Time? No. I stated a month ago or so that whoever started for the Browns would get no time to play "almost" there. DA, Quinn. I don't care. Play like a freaking nfl qb or get the hell out.
As of now, quinn needs to get the hell out. Dude throws 4 yd. passes. I throw 10 yd. passes to my daughter. I'm no nfl qb. Quinn better pick up his game and introduce himself to the wide receivers - otherwise, we will be glad the lions didn't win a game last year, cause we'll be the second team to do so...........
Throw the damn ball downfield!

quinn deserves more games but unfortunately, he's playing the way we thought he would before the preseason. in the preseason, it looked like he became more comfortable completing passes deeper to his receivers but when the pressure is on, he reverted to his old ways. what is under the excuse of "taking what the defense gives you" does NOT work when you're down in the 4th. the defense will give the underneath all day as they don't "give" tds. i thought he got better at connecting but at this point, it's a mental thing where he needs to actively look for those completions. if he's supposed to be ball control, he failed because he still turned it over twice. we don't need dink-n-dunk. he needs to complete those deeper passes.

1 other thing that bothers me ......
When Quinn was drafted, he was touted as being "NFL ready". That was 3 years ago. In 3 of his 4 starts ...... he's appeared to be anything but ready.
agreed. like i said, if you're a skill guy, you need a weapon. you don't need a huge arm if you're a qb but a pennington or a brees can complete all the passes, not just physically able to throw them. if your "weapon" coming out of college is that you're the most "nfl ready," it's difficult to say he actually has a weapon. here's hoping next week is better. he needs to live with edwards this week and know him inside and out. there is no reason why edwards wasn't targeted more. too bad the camera doesn't show further down field. it's even more difficult to evaluate because we don't know what happened down field with the receivers.

You guys are something else...really. The first game of the season and you want him out. Anderson got over a season to show us how much he could be good DA/bad DA and everyone was STILL kneeling in front of him. Maybe we will all be happy with Quinn next week - maybe not. Only time will tell...and that means more than the first game of the season. And, you're kidding, Arch...he's not a rookie?!?! I also doubt all the dinking and dunking is his doing. Some, yes, but not all.

I totally agree with you DawgMichelle. Really, even though I'm not a Browns fan. They have to give Quinn a reasonable chance to show what he can do. The Vikings have a very good defense.
