I think league wide it was known Philly had no choice but to open up a roster spot so since it leaked out Hank was being shopped it became clear he would just be cut.
That being said, I really hope Cleveland gets him. He's a vet, still young, big target, good down field blocker, and most importantly he comes from a well coached, well disciplined team. If he can bring what he's learned from Reid and McNabb to Cleveland, he could develop quite nicely into a reliable target till one of the rooks are ready to take the field on an every down basis or till the have to replace BE next year..
At the very worst, he's far ahead of Cribbs as WR.

Really though, all it proves is that we are always looking to improve and will "have an interest" in many players who are cut or released.

Ventrone played in 19 games with New England the past two years, mostly on special teams. The 305-pound Yates started 12 games with the Patriots since 2005, including a career-high eight in 2008. I don't get it..so they're saying that this Ventrone kid is better than ANY other FA WR out there? I have to think that if Mangini feels this area is a weakness, then there HAS to be a player who could contribute more

And I just looked up the Ventrone kid...supposedly he is a converted Safety? Anybody know the deal?

Ventrone is more of a ST guy.
Yates is described as a versatile OL backup with some experience as a starter.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

My thoughts exactly......I doubt we sign this guy to take reps away from Misq. & Robo or Furry. If we sign a guy off the waiver wire to help our recieving core, than were in far worse shape than we even imagioned.

He was a safety in college, and was describes as a big hitter. I can see him coming in to find a role on ST. And posibly safety depth---but I seriously doubt he sees time in the defensive backfield.
Yates on the other hand; I can see him getting time on the field cuz our right side is BAD. If this guy was able to hold it down for half the season with the Patriots last year---then he might just be able to help us out with out OL issues. If nothing else he provides depth at multiple positions on the OL.

Exactly. You just don't find yourself in a position to be able to cut a guy from the bottom of your roster and replace him with a starter.
We got rid of bottom-of-the-roster talent in Leon Williams, and we replaced it with bottom-of-the-roster talent in these guys. If there were starters available, they'd be starting somewhere.

I think we'll see a lot of flux in the bottom of the roster. Mangini said as much himself early on.
