I have one that's sitting at home that I can't play until I get home from school...Tuesday night.
BUT, I played one today at this place called the Grid Lab. It's a videogame spot in Athens that is like an arcade but with consoles.
Believe the hype, or should I say beliive the hype?
The motion sensing abilities are amazing. I played Wii Sports because there was only a choice between that and Zelda and I didn't wanna spoil Zelda for me for when I get home. Wii Sports is amazingly addicting and awesome. I loved the boxing. Golf was most frustrating (highest learning curve), and baseball was the most fun.
If you've written it off for it's lack of graphical abilities, don't. The gameplay is more than immersive enough to make you forget. Afterall, do you REALLY care about graphics when playing DDR or Guitar Hero? it's JUST like that, but with every game.

Those are two games that will never enter my house I applaud the efforts that went into the wiimote and all but I can't see me sitting in front of my tv swinging my arms around while playing a game. Maybe I'm too old to get into this console and its strickly geared towards the younger teens; I don't know, but I am not impressed with the unit. And yes graphics are very important to me...

Cool, Ammo! Give us a full review after you play this week! I'll pick one up when I see them on the store shelves. I just bought Trauma Center in anticipation of getting the console.
And, Spooky, you don't have to swing your arms around like a wild man. You can flick your wrist and accomplish the same thing. I'm looking forward to this unit and I'm FAR from being a kid, thank you. Why not try one before you write it off?

Wii Sports is the next big party game, bank on that. I can only imagine what they have in store for the next Mario Party game, it's gonna be infinitely better than ever.

Right.
It's really annoying how the remote and nunchuck come separately. $60 for a whole controller...shoot me...

Although, from what I have viewed the wii looks pretty wiik . It doesn't have any games that makes me want to go out and buy it. The only thing it really has is the controllers; and to me they look pretty lame and I wonder how well they will actually work. But like I have said before, buy the console that fits you the best. For me it was the 360 with Gears of War, Halo, and Xbox Live....JMO

I'm leaning towards the 360 too. Halo 3 will be a driving force in the final decison. I hope its better than Halo 2....and I really, really enjoyed Halo 2. I was still playing it 13 months after release.

I have heard rumors but I haven't seen anything solid and don't think this will happen. Reason is Microsoft will loose a tone of money if they release it for the PC at the same time; Why buy a 360 for when I can just play it on my PC. I could be wrong though

for one, because the PC will have to have Windows Vista as a requirement.
but no, I don't have anything concrete... just the typical "this game is in development still, but I heard this about it" kinda rumor.

I got home and played with my own Wii (good god that sounds awful). My thoughts about the system and the control itself are confirmed.
My mom and dad both played a game of bowling with me in Wii Sports. These two would never...ever touch videogames before this. I also heard my mom on the phone raving to her friend about the tennis game she played "I was doing backhands and stuff I hadn't done in 20 years!"
Nintendo is onto something, I promise you.

I tried it at Micro Center today. I only played it for about 5 minutes, the controls are different so it took me a bit to figure out what I was doing.
Of course, I just picked it up and didn't go through any tutorials. It's probably just as easy if not easier to learned these controls as it is for people who have never played Madden before to learn the classic Madden controls.
It almost feels like a new game with the Wii controller...almost. It's still Madden. I'll probably love it once I get the controls down but after 5 minutes I thought "I see where they're going with it. Once the learning curve is done this should be a blast."

In the Wii-PS3 Playoff, Nintendo Upsets Sony on the Fun Factor http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/22/AR2006112201857_2.htmlBy Mike Musgrove Thursday, November 23, 2006; Page D01 There was a showdown between the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3 at The Post's game testing lab last weekend. Here's how it went down: I invited a bunch of my friends, five guys and three gals, over to check out the new systems. Few of them play or care about video games, but they were all curious to see the PlayStation 3, the cutting-edge game console that sparked real-world mayhem on its release Friday. The Nintendo Wii system controls use motion-detecting technology. In a tennis game, the wireless control can be swung like a racket. By comparison, most of my friends arrived having heard little about Nintendo's new system. But, as it turned out, that device was the hit of the party. Here's the deal with Nintendo's Wii system, in case you missed it. The system's controls contain motion-detecting technology. In some games, you don't have to punch any buttons to play. In a tennis game, for example, you swing the wireless controller like a racket. When you hit a ball in the game, the controller shudders as if you'd hit a real ball. The controllers also contain speakers that make a satisfying "thwok" whenever you connect. It's the same for the bowling, baseball and boxing games designed for the system. Players in all those games use motions with their hands, arms and wrists that roughly replicate the movements you'd make in the real world. The graphics on the Wii aren't the system's strong suit, however. One of my friends, who liked the system, summed up its games' looks as "cheesy." Speaking of graphics, I gave the PS3 an unfair advantage in this department. You could have called it a fixed fight if my friends had fallen for the new PlayStation over the Wii because the $600 Sony system was running on a new $4,500, 50-inch plasma TV set from Pioneer, borrowed from the company just for this test. The $250 Nintendo, meanwhile, was running on an old tube set half the size of the plasma screen. It was that tube set that got most of the traffic. While the people in my group preferred looking at the PS3's games, they preferred playing the Wii. My friends played the Wii's sports games against each other all weekend, using goofy, cartoony avatars called "Miis" that they constructed to represent themselves in the game. Give a couple of newlyweds a pair of Wii controllers, pop in the boxing game and the entertainment value is priceless. We started out playing the game sitting down, but eventually we took to our feet to get a better range of motion with the controllers. I have never seen a bunch of non-gamers get into this stuff like this, and I have never heard anybody laugh so much while playing any video game. A few of them now say they plan to buy the system for themselves. My friend Andy has always seemed to dislike video games, but he was immediately taken by the Nintendo system in a way that I -- and he -- did not expect. "I'm surprised by how much I like it," he said. "The controller is so intuitive." A few minutes later, he was cursing the PS3. Most of my friends who picked up the PS3's controller ended up frustrated. The typical game for the system requires players to have memorized where all the buttons are, and it's much harder to just pick up a controller and have a good time. Some of the verdicts they offered are unprintable. My friend Jon, a technophile who likes racing games, reached first for the PS3 and wrestled with the menus and controls for the driving game Ridge Racer. Eventually, we played some races on the system and enjoyed some crisp and realistic-looking racetrack scenarios. But, for a while, he gave up on that and watched Andy and me fall over the furniture as we boxed each other on the Nintendo system. "I'm having more fun just watching you guys play that," he said. Jon gave the PS3 a thumbs up in at least one area. He was eventually impressed with the quality of the Blu-ray movie format when we watched "Talladega Nights," the movie that Sony is including with the first shipments of the PS3. Game developers say the PS3 is so powerful that they haven't exploited the system's full potential. I have no idea what the system is capable of, but I can testify that you have to be pretty sharp-eyed to tell much of a difference between the first batch of PS3 games and Xbox 360 versions of the same titles. When it comes to accessing all of the multimedia features that Sony is promoting with its console . . . well, I still prefer the Xbox 360's approach. With the Xbox 360, a Microsoft product, using the interface and getting online has been easy and almost as intuitive as using an iPod. Trying to get online with the PS3, on the other hand, was a vale of tears because I didn't have a USB-compatible keyboard to plug into the console, and using the game controller to enter my user information was a tedious process that I gave up on twice. Imagine filling out a mortgage application on a cellphone. It's something like that. So I headed out of town for Thanksgiving to spend some time with my girlfriend's family. Just to be safe, I locked away the expensive and hard-to-find PS3 in an undisclosed location, where it is being guarded by ninjas and feral dogs. The thing has some features I look forward to exploring some more, but that can wait. The Wii, on the other hand, rode shotgun with me for some show-and-tell action because Nintendo got one feature right with the system on Day One: It's just darn fun.

Thanks. I'm not in that much of a hurry to go stand in line. I figure I'll run across one eventually. Although I did consider going to Best Buy this morning as they are getting a minimum of 12 per store. Thing is, I have a football game to get ready for!

The Wii is pretty awesome. Its different, for sure.
Wii Sports was made to prove a point. 'Hey look what this stuff can do' It's basic but a fun party game.
The Wii has so many endless possibilities with the controller and such, but on the graphics end it comes no where near the abilities of the 360 or PS3

well its possible that alot of processing power goes to handling the motion sensing....where the ps3 is more about looking real good....
nintendo is about game-play...the graphics are good they just don't look killer, and honestly wii sports shouldn't be a judge of graphics....
heck my gamecube looked as good as a ps2 imo....

The concept of the Wii is awesome. Looks really fun to play. The downside is the didn't spend much at all on graphics. It's almost the same core as the Gamecube, which is several years outdated. I wish they'd have splurged a little more to better the graphics, or the system would be perfect. JMO.

I think they were also trying to hit a certain price point and bumping up the graphics processor would have probably killed that.

The Wii processor is a proven 75% slower than PS3.
Nintendo is very smart, they needed something that no ones done and that'll attract people, and its worked well. They gave up in the graphics race, might as well find a new way to do business.

Graphics are always secondary to them because while eye candy is great, it's worthless if the game sucks. I think they were also trying to hit a certain price point and bumping up the graphics processor would have probably killed that. Exactly. I wouldn't count out the Wii's graphical capabilities though. What you see in the launch games is no indication of a game made ground up for Wii. Most of those games used overclocked GameCube development kits (which even overclocked to its absolute max, the GC dev kits can't touch the Wii dev kits, or even Xbox dev kits), which explains why some launch games look in between GC and Xbox visually: overclocked GameCube kits can only do so much. Examples of games that were built from the ground up on Wii development kits are Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Will Wii come close to 360 or PS3 in the graphics department? Hell no, but we will see much better visuals than we're seeing right now. From what I read, developers got final Wii kits 4 months before launch. That probably gave them enough time to port the code over and do the last minute tweaks. Plus remember this: a TON of 360 and PS3's resources are being used to output the 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions. Nintendo is saving a ton of memory space by going the 480p route, which the Wii can do without a problem since the GameCube did it in most games. That's not saying Wii in 480p would come close to 360 or PS3 in 720p, but a LOT more can be done with the system than what we're seeing right now. Besides, Zelda is essentially a GameCube game and it looks BY FAR better than any other PS2, Xbox or GameCube game. That says a lot about the GC's untapped resources. It should be interesting to see how Madden '08 looks on Wii compared to '07. I'm not a programmer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Yeah, Nintendo focuses on the younger crowd. They try to do fun things. The DS and the Wii are great examples. It's a big advancement in gaming, but they didn't spend the money to make it look better. Some could care less, but that's one thing I look for. I'm sort of a techie. I like nice High Def TV's, great sounding surround sound and home theaters, and was big on car stereos back in the day. Looking for something better all the time.
Although I considered the Wii, I'm sticking out for the PS3. Like you said, if the graphics are great, but the game isn't fun, then why buy it. That's why I skipped the 360 and will go to the PS3, you get the best of both worlds. Although maybe down the road, I may consider the Wii. I'm sure my nephew and my daughter down the road would have a blast with it.

Nintendo is trying to get non-gamers and past gamers with the Wii. There have been many complaints about PS3's controller learning curve, just an FYI.
Anyway, my sister-in-law called while she was shopping at Target today during lunch and left a message. She said they had 5 Wii's. She went to find someone to ask about them and noticed they had been moved. She was told they are putting them back becuase of an ad coming out soon and need some to sell then. She told them she had already called me about one and they said they would hold it for a few hours. I booked it down there and picked it up no problem.
