My school has a program technically called the Scholastic Team, but commonly referred to as Academic Team. It's basically a bunch of geeks on a trivia team similar to Jeopardy. They ask a question (four basic subjects, history, science, english, and math) and anyone on the two competing teams (4 people on each team are in at a time) and anyone can buzz in. The person who buzzes must answer, and their team cannot buzz in again if s/he gets it wrong. The other team can, but after ten seconds a new question is asked. 5 rounds of 20 questions.

After my lengthy explanation, I'm hoping you get the gist of the program. Anyway, I was on JV last year (yes, we have a JV and a Varsity) because Freshman and newcomers aren't allowed on Varsity, though our coach/adviser/whatever you want to call her did bend the rule and let me in for one round last year. This year I am on Varsity (youngest on the team and only Sophomore) and after leading the team on Monday, I have been selected to be one of the four team members to appear on the Lima TV Show, Hi-Q.

We tape two weeks from today, and it will be on TV sometime after that. Just a general look at me/brag thread.

Cool. Is that the one Mike Hartsock does? If it is, be sure to tell him the Bengals suck when you tape.

By the way, I can pm you my phone number so you can "call a friend" if you get a political question by chance, okay?

Way to go! Make us proud. If you get way ahead, buzz in one time and answer with "The Steelers Suck"

Congrats!

I see that show on TV now and again. I think it's on Saturday evenings here locally.

Speaking of being on TV..... I was at a conference in Chicago last week for work, apparently I was volunteered to be interviewed for some video the hospital is putting together today. Not sure what they intend on doing with it.... like to know how they seem to pick me for everything.....

Ah well!

Congrats Deep and best of luck even though Hartsock is the host. Hartsock has a very self inflated opinion of himself and you can tell by watching his sportscasts.

I watch High IQ every Sunday morning and pay attention to the schools when they are on, so when I see the schedule I will make sure I post the dates for those interested when they are available.

This show and academic challenge are the same but different but just different parts of Ohio, I think just about every states does shows such as this, either way I love these programs, to see some smart young kids is refreshing at times.

Congrats Deep! I did this stuff when I was in HS, and though you seem like a geek now, chicks dig it when getting serious about a woman truly means something to you.

Good luck!!

Heck Hartsock isn't that bad compared to others in the Miami Valley area, I've seen and heard ten times worse, but for a local guy he's not bad at all.

Ah, but what if you luck out and get a question, like, oh, say, "what is your personal view of gov't.?"

I don't want you to be like Miss South Carolina and respond "well, I personally believe that, like, my personal belief is, like, the iraq, and, such as. And I personally believe that us, u.s. americans, well, we don't have, such as, personal belief's like, because, well, we don't know our gov't. like the south africans, and, such as.............." It would make you look terrible.

Just phone a friend!

Good luck.

A sunny day can have a cloud, right?

I hope he does well. And by well I mean he does not have to answer a question about the ability or viability of any professional football player as it relates in any way to performance.

But if a question about Rome comes up, then all is well.

et tu Brutus?

Congratulations. That's quite an accomplishment and something you should be proud of.

You are an eloquent youngster ... and I would say that being eloquent and having intelligence are typically positively correlated. I was beginning to think that you you were too much of either for your age and we have long had another CoachB on our hands. But now we get to see you with our own eyes ... well, I won't unless it gets on youtube or something.

Don't let it go to your head ... we've noticed you've had a tendency to do that around these parts ...

Seriously, keep up the good work ... I see some academic scholarships in your future.

Good advice. Remember there are a lot of people out there who are a ton better than you at things that you feel you do well and who are a ton smarter than you.

But that shouldn't be discouraging. It should set your goals even higher because you want to beat those people.

Then, even when you reach those heights, you always have to work hard because there is always someone waiting in the wings to pull you down and take your place.

Be confident, but always be humble.

High-Q! I was on Troy's academic quiz team during from 2002-2004. We didn't go on High-Q until my senior year which was 03-04. My specialty was history, politics, sports, and your basic pop culture (apparently on my team i was the only one who watched ESPN).

Anywho, I remember the first team we faced was Anna. We put a lickin on em and, compared to most tournaments we entered, I actually carried the team for the most part. I found out when it was going to air on WHIO and was sure to wake up early saturday to record it...only to find the news was instead covering the capture of Saddam Hussein. I still remember hoping that the at 10am the news would temporarily halt coverage and air High-Q.

We went back about a month later, this time to face the defending champion Russia. We were behind by a few points when it came our turn for a round of questions in which all the answers would contain one word. Ours was George. We had 7 seconds to answer each question, we could confer with teammates but only the designated captain could answer. The guy chosen was another teammate. Very smart guy but not exactly someone you'd chat about pop culture or sports about. So the questions came and I was hammering him all the answers. Who was the maganer of the Big Red Machine? George "Sparky" Anderson. Then there was a question about a comic, George Lopez. We'd just about tied them when the last question came.

Who sang "Bad to the Bone and I Drink Alone".

Immediately I knew, George Thorogood. But right as i turned to tell him he blurted out "George Michael". George freaking Michael. I still remember watching that episode on tv as i turned to him shook my head and mouthed "what the #$%^ were you thinking". Needless to say we lost by two points. The question would have given us 5.

Its a fun experience. We saw Jim Baldridge walking through the hall on the way there and were sorta awestruck at the local celebrity.

Lucky for us though, we got Cara Zinski as our host

Good luck Deepthreat, and enjoy
