Just to add other useless stuff like Radiation Detection Rescue Cutters Forest Management / Monitoring (Severe) Weather Forecasting Solar Energy Virtual Reality / Simulations The space program sucks. Totally useless.

Eventually, maybe. We'll never know.
The important thing is that we keep challenging ourselves, asking questions, and teaching our kids that it's ok to ask questions and learn new things. One of the most challenging things we can do in this lifetime is space travel, specifically putting living organisms there. That's why I'm a firm believer in pushing our presence in space, it can only yield benefits in the future to our civilization.
I don't know if the USA is up to it anymore though. I have a feeling that the first government to set down on another planet will be China. They just won't worry about a return trip. And maybe before that, Space X or some other company might make it there and claim whole planet mining rights. It's going to happen, it's not an impossible feat by any stretch of the imagination, it's just a matter of who wants to be the first and everything that comes with it.
There are no sacred cows.

I may want further space exploration than any other person on the planet....but I think it's a good time to take a rest. We need to prioritize this countries needs before putting a base on the moon. We pretty much already know that Mars is a dead planet...so there's no rush to explore it. It ain't going anywhere.

I think all cultures throughout history have challenged the notion of stars, space, and something bigger than we can comprehend. the most sucsessfull nations have found a good balance
