Good man!
I expect to quit myself in the next two or three months. I made it 'til around 8 p.m. on Labor Day before I gave in, but I plan to keep trying.
Congrats, three weeks is a great start!

Lamp and Shotty if you try make sure you have NO smokes in the house. Many times I would have lit one up if I would have had it, but on a few occasions I was ready to give up I talked myself out of it by the time I drove to the store to buy them, Yes I actually went to the store to buy some but didn't give in

How can you expect to set an example for the young ones with you quitting? Finish what you started.

In all seriousness, congrats. Keep it up, and I'm sure you won't regret it.

Good luck bud! My lady and I are working on our 4th week of no smokes.

We took the advice of one of the posters here and started putting the cash in a jar on the kitchen counter that we would have spent on our smokes. Damn that's a lot of cash.

Keys we almost quit at the same time Lets see we are saving about 250 per month by not smoking, but my health insurance just went up by more than that, so we are still further in the hole

Ouch! That's crazy. Wonder if it will go down after a year of smoke free. That's what they told Dyna at her job where she gets Health insurance. We'll see.

And I'll have to catch a drink with ya at the SD game this year. Still hang out at DTI beforehand?

Everybody's insurance went up. The employer is no longer paying any portion of it I still hang at DTI when I make it up to the games. I'm not sure which two I am going to yet this year.

Congrats to you, GM, and everyone else in this thread who has recently quit smoking. You should be prepared for even more cravings, not physically but rather on a psychological level instead.

It will always be a struggle not to smoke, just like it's always a struggle for an alcoholic not to take "just one drink"...

Hang in there and fight the good fight!

It will be 2 years for me in February.Best thing I ever did and it will be for you too.Plan on a little weight gain though.I'm still trying to lose the weight I gained, but I still feel a whole lot better and don't hack and cough every morning when I first wake up.

If you have grandkids, just keep telling yourself you want to see them grow up and graduate. That helped me.

Good job, GM! I'm in the same club you are, but it's been two and a half months for me. I think before long you'll notice so much better lung quality so you can now enjoy so many things better, like; breathing!

You may be tempted from time to time but just stay away. Even that one or two cigs when you're drinking can turn into buying a pack the next day when you're hung over. So hey, just do what you gotta do to stay clear!

Also, putting the money you would be spending on smoking in a savings account is incredible. I recommend that. That helps keep the extra motivation. We're all proud, chief....

Good luck GM!

We smokers make so many excuses as to why we smoke....we enjoy it...we are stressed....we are Browns fans ..we love one with a cold beer....we cannot overcome the addiction......and so much more!

Kick the habit......they tell me the food taste better without a smoke...hopefully I will find out soon!

Congratulations

It will be 4 years for me in October. What I like best is watching my stop smoking account grow. When I stopped I opened a special savings account . In stead of stopping at the smoke shop each Friday and buying cartons of cigs, I stopped at the bank and put my cig money in the account. Now every year around my anniversary month I take some out and spend it on something I really want.
This year I'm sending my niece and her soon to be husband on thier dream honeymoon, though they don't know it yet.

These are just a few of the things you can look forward to now that you have stopped. It can be difficult at times but trust me, it's worth it. Good luck and remember thier are always plenty of Dawgs here for your support.

Congratulations ... and welcome to the club! (What is it ... 4 years for me now?)

You're throught the hardest part. Once I got through a month I haven't wanted another. Now go forth and be a lifelong non smoker.

I smoked for 25 years .....

I think that once you decide that you are never going to smoke again, it is actually pretty easy. I had a few rough moments when I first quit ..... but, overall, I was pretty surprised at how easy it was.

Good luck dude!

Now I need to bring the other side. If you go back which you probably will don't think you are a failure, we all have (smokers) tried and failed many times.

I keep thinking about the WW1 vet that just recently died at the age of 113 when he was asked about the secret to his longevity and he said:

1. cigarettes
2. whiskey
3.wild women

If your quiting for financial reasons that is great, but if your quiting for another reason tell everyone to kiss your behind!

Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

August 7, 2007. Remember your date. For some reason it's a real incentive not to take a puff ever again.

Congrats man, you've got the roughest part out of the way (the first 3 days). I smoked for almost 30 years, and if I can quit, anybody can. We're all pulling for you.

that's so true... November 7th, 2006, 1:30 pm.. it was a tuesday... that was my last puff.. There is a sense of accomplishment like no other that I've felt with anything else I've done. Can't explain it, but it is what it is I guess....

Good luck GM..
