If this would have occured in my school district my reaction would have been a very short essay telling them in 3 words ("P... on it") what my attitude would be concerning their next bond election. I would have booted the teacher. My view is the teacher being a woman got off soft. What's your take? I am a high school English teacher.
I couldn't even IMAGINE what this topic could even pertain to? What could they possibly be discussing in class?

She's an idiot. I'm not a teacher, but I would have to think there might be other topics to use to "get kids to improve their writing", as if the topic improves one's writing anyway.
Bet she's a union member.

i cannot imagine any reasonable person thinking that such an assignment would be appropriate.
Monitored closely .....? This woman should have been fired on the spot.

Whew, it has been 37 years since I've been out of high school, I was a bit afraid that perhaps things had changed so much that I was displaying my transformation into becoming an old geezer.
Reading the full article I found it quite odd that it doesn't make mention of the teacher's name. It strikes me as they're going out of their way to protect the teacher.

For the life of me, I don't get why she would pose that question as a writing topic. I'm trying see what she could have been thinking and I can come up with no reasonable explaination.. none. She's an idiot!

Just based on what the article says, I have to believe the teacher has been there a long time and done a good job and this was out of character for her... Unless I hear more, I'll just go with that as why she is getting such a second chance...
Now just imagine if a creative writing assignment was given and the STUDENT chose to write an essay about possibly urinating in somebodys mouth... the kid would have been suspended and sent to sensitivity training and all sorts of stuff.

Ok, it's a little strange, but i was expecting something more inappropriate than that. Anyone ever seen the movie Kung Fu Hustle? A boy knocks another boy down and then commences to urinate on him. It is not some sick twisted act , merely an attempt to humiliate. Perhaps this is the meaning of the essay question; if you knock someone down would you humiliate them as well. I think it is a good question and, since it is creative writing, it is posed in a creative way.
Of course, I don't know if that is what the teacher intended. But if it is, then I have no problem with it. Seems like a good conversation starter to me.

Maybe she was trying to find out who would because she is in to golden showers and seeking a partner...

Writing an essay explaining your position on humiliation is one thing.. but, she didn't say "someone", she said "your brother"... two, she didn't say humiliate, she didn't even say urinate on, she said, "urinate in their MOUTH"...
I still maintain that if a kid wrote an essay about how they would like to throw a teacher to the ground and urinate on them, they would be suspended.

I've been trying to wrap my head around this and the only thing I can come up with is similar to what Mantis is saying.... She is poorly asking "If you knocked your brother down, would you kick him too?" It doesn't have the ear perking shock value as her question, but that doesn't excuse her. Maybe she could have said, "If you knocked your brother down, would you dress him up in a Steeler's jersey?

I agree that the "in the mouth" part is a little strange; she could have just said "urinate on him" and it would have been much easier to defend. But which do you think is more believable: that she was trying to be provacative in a creative writing class and went a little too far, or do you believe Ballpeen's conclusion that she wants to take a golden shower? 
Again, I don't really know ... she could be a freak ... but i doubt it.

I'm almost certain that she was trying to get the kids attention and just went too far.. way too far. If she has a long service history of good service, I probably wouldn't fire her over it either.

This story is so weird that I've been expecting to hear that this whole thing itself is nothing more than a fictional creative writing exercise stirred up by a member of her class who got administrators to play along. But then, would that be any less weird?
