My dad (80) fell and broke his hip last night. Repairing the fracture isn't an option because they couldn't assure that he would walk again, so he is having hip replacement surgery this afternoon.
Thoughts and prayers please.....

Done. My grandma had replacement when she was 82. Took a while with rehab and what not, but she's 90 now and still walking around no problems.

Hope all goes well with the surgery. My grandmother has had both hips replaced. It can be a bit rough afterwards. My thoughts and prayers are there.

Prayers are on their way Shep.....I had my hip replaced in 03..of course i'm a bit younger than your dad....I was back to work in construction in 7 wks...if your dad is relatively active he will do fine ....good luck..

Thanks all....
The surgery went well once they got past some initial complications. He has issues with his lungs, from being a firefighter full time for 25 years plus painting houses on the side at the same time. They couldn't get his breathing stabilized for surgery to put him under so they ended up just giving him a spinal local and he watched the whole thing.....said he didn't feel anything at all.
Couple more days in the hospital and then to a rehab place for a spell, which will be a fight to get him into because he wants to go home, of course.
