Question: what should Mangini have done differently today?

Nothing. There are a few things holding this team back:

1. QB
2. Right Tackle
3. Linebacker
4. Wide Receiver
5. Safety
6. Corner

We don't have the talent to win right now. Every time our offense would get something going, our QB would blow it. We are in desperate need of someone to throw the ball.

I agree. Does that mean Mangini is doing everything right? No, I don't think so. But I just laugh at people who are calling for his head after 3 games. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

My big problem is that when Mangini speaks he say "we have the talent here to win". NO...we don't!! That's the kind of comments that should get a guy fired! Stand up and say we suck! We are usung this season to look at guys and then plan the future! At least it would be something! Don't tell us we're have the personnel to win now because it's just not factual!

But you are right...we need all that and more!

We Do have the talent to win.

We just need better PRODUCTION out of the QB position. Thats it really.

That will take all the pressure off the Defense and the ground game will open up a little bit as well.

We def. have the talent to be competitive. Otherwise we wouldn't be in the NFL.

It really is as easy as switching QB's.

I am 100% sure of this.

My problem with Mangini is the overall talent level of this team. Mangini is the one who makes the personnel decisions, and somehow, the talent level appears to have gotten worse from last year to this year. That is inexcusable.

The free agent decisions were Mangini's. The draft was Mangini's. He is responsible for the product we see on the field. And so far, it sucks.

I am not saying I expected him to come in and make this team a Super Bowl contender, playoff team, or even have a winning record this year. But I didn't expect the team to get worse, and that is what seems to have happened. And for that, I can't excuse Mangini.

Mangini has 13 games to show me that this team is better than the one we saw last year, but if that doesn't happen, I don't want Mangini back. There is no reason this team should be worse this year than last year.

Cue Django in 3..2..1 ...

Btw Django, I think you've been right on the money when it comes to EM and this offseason thus far.

The draft was crap ( Mangini ) that's my opinion

The OC is a rookie & a mistake ( Mangini )

The team is playing with no heart ( Mangini )

That's a "you" issue, not a "mangini" issue.

It's his job to say he has enough talent to win even if he doesn't. You have to get past that.

He took this team backwards, in over drive. His free agent class consisted of former Jets and other bums that other teams no longer needed.

He could have actually upgraded the talent with essentially the same money, by keeping Shaffer and signing Birk...anybody see Birk today?

Trademark of a clueless regime is when all they do is bring in their former players, shows that they cant go out and find new talent for their systems.

Then we come to the draft, which was butchered beyond belief, trading down 3 times, taking a center in the first round, taking 2 average Wr's, and then just flat out wasting a pick on Vekune, who is a special, special teamer. Robo isnt even active.

The players we coulda had, and SHOULDA had is mind blowing, and then there the arugment that we passed on a franchise QB. Which is lame because most fans thought that either DA or BQ was the answer, obviously "NFL people" should know more than fans, but Browns fans have been 10x as smart as any browns coach or gm since they have been back.

Eric has no idea what hes doing, he doesnt know which QB to go with, half his tame hates his guts. He's got fights breaking out in his locker room, players filing grievances against him. He's 0-3, he hasnt even been competitive yet, not even in a game. His attitude and "system" has landed him in the medias crosshairs, players crosshairs, and its all rightly so, and square on his shoulders.

This team was overhauled quite a bit this offseason, for the worse, 6 new starters on offense, 4 on defense. This is his baby, and its not even looking like an NFL team, it doesnt have any heart, nobody is trying.

This team is worse off than last year, by a fair margin, and its all on EM...all of it. Its now a question of will we win a game...and how long will the locker room hold together?

Fire Mangini tonight and name Ryan the head coach. Then in turn Ryan fires Daboll. What is the argument against it, we don't want to look like the laughing stock of the league? We don't want to look like we are starting all over again? If it is not obvious that Mangini isn't the answer, then you are blind. The holes in this team are his fault. He drafted 1 center in the first, 2 WR that aren't worth their spots taken, and a LB that has never played either position they are looking at him in the 2nd rnd. We have like 16 of his former Jets on this team, and frankly, ain't none of them worth a crap.

Please just cut the losses with Gini now and move on as soon as possible. Hated the hire when it happened. Hated his draft when it happened, and hate the way he runs the team now. Cut bait and move on - PLEASE!

This team is rudderless and emotionless, they played scared, the played uninspired, the seem to play the entire game with the "deer in the headlights" look.. if I was a player and my agent DID try to steer me toward this team, I'd fire him.

Umm.........Aren't you mad about those quotes, which means you kinda bought it?

We as fans.........and no, I don't mean just Browns fans...........need to understand coach-speak is BS, and that it shouldn't have a shred of validity when we all form our opinions.

Who's gonna hire the new guy??? The same idiot that hired EM, and the same idiot that hired RAC.

That doesnt solve the problem, it only resolves the current issue. Randy shoulda hired a real GM/CEO....to decide who our new coach was....then....if the HC doesnt work out, you keep the same FO and same direction. That FO hires a new HC, and you keep going foward.

When EM gets axed, 6 games, 6 months, 6 years....we start all over, completely over, we have no FO, just a stupid, clueless owner.

BrownsFanz,
IF you look at my old threads, I simply asked people one question, what personel that mangini brought in was a upgrade?? Mangini has not brought any talent into Cleveland that would start on any other team in our division nor, were they any better than the players that were already there. The first day of the draft was a debacle. Our first three rounds of picks are not helping at all. His "system" is doing nothing and looks worse than the previous regime. Look at his presser, he does not know how to fix this.

The problem is Toad he was supposedly the choice because he told Lerner he could win with this group....everyone else interviewed wanted to tear it down and start over. Another problem with this theory is this team has gotten worse..........alot worse. We were 4-12 last year due to a large part of the injuries (I mean Dorsey started our last 4 games). Quinn has regressed.......The OLine has regressed.....even the D has regressed (and I didn't see that as possible).

Mangini has taken a crappy team and made it crappier. I'm with water on this one........I don't think there is much hope until Jr. sells the freaking team. I've seen this song and dance way to many times, and I've come to the conclusion that Vers was right........the problems with this organization start at the top and get's pretty smelly at the bottom of the hill.

Right after EM got hired, everyone was talking about how he isnt gonna "rebuild" the team and that he'll win right away. Of course the "he'll bring discipline and character to this team".

This team needed some rebuilding, it just did, especially on defense. Mostly it needed a solid staff in the FO and the field to mold what talent we had into a winner.

I guess it shows just how clueless Randy is if EM sat down in his office and claimed he could win with this team...guess it shows how smart EM is as well.

Then you add in how bad of an off season, draft, and then one thing after another that was never "EM's fault". Its always the media, or bad luck...or whatever lame excuse apologetic fans can think up.

Starts and ends with Randy, always has, always will.

You know what is really sad, if you look at the teams the Lerner's are involved with, NONE of them are winning. Plus the reason Randy leans on so-called people who say they can win with the talent already here id because either he or the GM do not want to spend the money to get the talent needed. OR if you do not want to go the FA route, then you have to draft very smart. The browns have done neither!!

Typical Toad...you take one line out of a post and try to spin it, and disregard the rest of the post, because it goes against what your saying. Mangini is a problem.

For all the grief you gave the past FO (failed version # 3 for the record), this FO has taken that crappy team and made it worse. Until Lerner is gone I don't think we can expect any changes. As Z says it'll be the same idiot hiring the same type of idiots he's hired for the past 10 years.

Mangini is far from the problem. The problem is the talent level. Mangini has had ONE offseason. Phil Savage had more support after last year than this. Explain that one to me.

Yeah, the Jets really screwed up this offseasson, firing their accomplished "proven" NFL coach, and brining in Rex Ryan. Plus, their draft, trading with that accomplished "proven" HC for a QB.

Glad we got the big end of the stick on both those deals.

Didn't see the winky emoticon, I see, so you didn't catch the joke.

Meh, understandable.

However, maybe you can tell me just what it is that "I'm saying" because I don't think you fully grasp what I meant and what I said. That's because this board-posting stuff loses intent and meaning through interpretation.

Ok, how I feel..........

Lerner isn't a loser because he "doesn't care about winning."

Lerner is a loser because he "can't choose the right football people to make football decisions."

I also made a point to 'Mutt that if he's made because Mangini said he could win with this team, that he can't be mad at saying what 31 other coaches would say.

Capiche?

because right now this whole thing looks like a complete failure. not to mention the media has already jumped all over him.
the team looks worse, the draft looks poor (even though you can't grade it yet) some of the things they are doing on offense are downright puzzling. Not to mention turning over half the roster with players that were either downgrades or marginal improvements. Our DL is the only unit on this team where there is somewhat of depth, and even that is questionable.

Lerner needs to open his checkbook, call Parcells and offer him whatever he wants, and let him run the whole operation. be/choose the gm, hire the coach, staff etc

Wake up! instead of just losing for years on end like cinci, Learner paid something like 30 million just to get the old GM and coach OUT!!! it has nothing to do with money.

Right its not money, its just pure incompetence and Randy being to involved with picking the coach, a CEO/GM/President that has football background should be doing that.

What a freaking embarrassment. I feel bad for browns fans that feel that somehow they need to continue to watch this crap or else they wont be "diehard". EM is obviously such an ego maniac that he felt that his approach could change the fortunes of crap team. It is a match made in hell as clearly he has done little to improve this team in any one of the 10 obvious places he could have started. This team goes 0-16 mark it down now. He has already lost the locker room, people saying that he needs "to keep the locker room " apparently have a pretty poor idea of what together is. EM will not make it to week 9.

Its not all money but yes, it does have to do with money. First, you have to evaluate good talent and bring that talent in IF you bring in FAs. ( Look at the over paid crap that Savage brought in vs what other teams have done with FAs). Then instead of moving down 3 times, draft someone in the first 3 rounds that will make immediate impacts on your team. Again, you have to evaluate talent. SO looking at those two points, Mangini, Kokonis, Keenan and Lerner have done nothing.

BALTIMORE -- Honest to God, I hope the Cleveland Browns have quit on their coach. I hope they've quit on that smarmy little know-it-all, Eric Mangini, because the alternative is even uglier. Judging from their hopeless 34-3 loss Sunday to Baltimore, a game in which the Browns couldn't run, throw, block or tackle, the Browns have either quit on Mangini -- or they're simply the worst team in the NFL.

And the Kansas City Chiefs still play in the NFL.

But there's no way the Chiefs are as bad as Cleveland, and that's because the Chiefs don't hate their coach. Not like the Browns surely hate Eric Mangini. He's the most dislikeable coach in the NFL, and that's saying something. Bill Belichick coaches in the NFL. But unlike Mangini, Belichick has done something. He's done a whole lot of something. He has three Super Bowl rings that say he's not a jerk -- he's an irascible genius.

Mangini? He's just a jerk.

And players don't like playing for a jerk.

And Sunday was the proof.

Again, I honestly hope for their sake that the Browns quit on Mangini. Seriously. And I despise quitting. Hate it. Don't think it should be done, ever, and that includes now. I do not think the Browns should quit on Mangini, because a professional athlete should have enough pride in himself to play his best, regardless of how big a jackass his coach is.

But Mangini is such an enormous jackass that it skews things.

You can quit on your coach and still have a job in this league if you're good enough to play. But if the Browns haven't quit on Mangini, if they actually were trying on Sunday, then they're beyond help. Then there are about 30 of them who don't belong in the NFL. I could list the 30, but it would be easier to just say: the Cleveland defense, the Cleveland offensive line, both Cleveland quarterbacks, every Cleveland running back, Braylon Edwards, and various and sundry Cleveland special team players.

Mangini denies the Browns have quit on him -- but the field action speaks differently. (AP) Those are the options. Either the Browns have quit on Mangini, or those players should be released immediately. The poor Ravens deserved better. They deserved better competition, better effort, from the Browns. Baltimore is really good and doesn't need its opponent to quit to win a game. Baltimore will go to the playoffs this season, and when the last game of the season is played, Baltimore might just be there. And win it. The Ravens are that good, on both sides of the ball and on the sideline, and it showed Sunday in a blowout victory.

But I suspect something else happened Sunday. I suspect the Browns have quit on the coach. And if you follow the Browns at all, or if you don't follow the Browns but you had the misfortune of watching Sunday's game on television, you suspect the same thing.

Mangini doesn't suspect a damn thing, of course. I asked him straight out: Did the players quit on you?

And he said: "No. No. And if at any point I do identify anything like that, they won't be playing in the weeks to come."

He might want to identify the players responsible on some -- OK, all -- of the Ravens' touchdowns Sunday. The Ravens had rushing touchdowns of 7, 15 and 9 yards in which the ball carrier was never touched. Not once. And you can't explain it away by blaming the breakdown on one specific area of the Cleveland defense, because one play went left. One went right. And the other went straight up the middle.

Willis McGahee had the first two scores, and Ray Rice the third. And it was the pass defense, too. Ravens receiver Derrick Mason scored untouched on a 72-yard pass play, catching the ball at a dead stop at the Cleveland 25, then eluding two nearby defenders who kind of, maybe, tried to stop him. McGahee also had a 34-yard run where he was throwing off would-be tacklers like a man throwing off boys. Or like a motivated NFL player throwing off a bunch of quitters.

So, did they quit? Only they know. I asked three different Cleveland players if the team had quit on Mangini, and all three said no. But they were talking to an outsider. They don't know me, they don't trust me, and I get that. Only one of them even spoke to me in complete sentences, kick returner Joshua Cribbs, and he avoided the danger entirely.

"I'm no mind-reader, but I don't see any quitting in here," Cribbs said. "Give credit where credit is due. That [Baltimore] is a really good team. They're going to do some things this year. It's not like we quit. We're a disciplined team, and it starts with the coach. We need discipline, and he gives it to us."

Maybe. Or maybe Mangini has given his players something else. Maybe he has given them every reason to quit on him. Reportedly, almost 10 percent of Mangini's active roster -- five players out of 53 -- are in the process of filing grievances against their horse's ass of a coach who has, for example, fined a player $1,701 for not paying for a $3 bottle of water out of a hotel fridge.

Mangini is a power-drunk bully who derives pleasure from little-man moves like hiding the identity of his starting quarterback this preseason, like hiding the injury of Brett Favre last season in New York, and like fining a player $1,701 for drinking a $3 bottle of water in his hotel room and then forgetting to tell the front desk about it.

Mangini is a smart guy, but he undermines his intelligence by being such an ass. He's the NFL's version of Larry Bowa, one of the smarter baseball men but arrogant enough to think he re-invented the game -- which makes him so dislikeable that he'll never manage again in the big leagues. Mangini doesn't have Bowa's resume as a player, though, so Mangini isn't really another Larry Bowa. He's another Buck Showalter.

And I asked Mangini about that, too. I prefaced my question by noting that he was dealing with human beings in his locker room, and so I wanted to know if maybe, just maybe, his methods weren't working with the particular human beings in his particular locker room.

And he said: "I've dealt with a lot of football players over time, and I feel very comfortable in my ability to deal with people. I demand high expectations of people. That's something I fundamentally believe in."

Fine, but here's something I fundamentally believe: If I'm a player in this league, and I become a free agent, I'm telling my agent to consider offers from 31 teams: Everyone in the league except for any organization dumb enough to employ that fool Eric Mangini as head coach. And if I'm thinking that way, you can believe there are players or agents who think that way.

What I'm saying is this: Cleveland is a train wreck. Cleveland was better off with mediocre Romeo Crennel than it is with malignant Eric Mangini. The Browns' front office and ownership can pretend otherwise, but that's make-believe. That can't be sincere. Only a moron could watch this Cleveland football team, which I've had the misfortune of doing twice in three weeks, and think everything is going to be OK here.

Then again, Cleveland did hire Mangini in the first place. So apparently there are morons in that front office.

And maybe, possibly -- probably -- there are quitters in that locker room.

For someone who's pretending to be a national writer, that's some of the most unprofessionally pathetic crap that I've ever read.

Setting aside his opinion, which he has every right to, there isn't a RESPECTED writer in the entire sports world who calls a head coach a "jackass" and an "ass" in the same story.

He then calls people in the front office "morons."

Is this some kinda joke? Is it just a fan that made a webpage that looks legit?

If I saw this from a Bengals writer, I'd be displeased because it's that bad.

I'm confused by this, because he just can't be a writer........

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.
