Let's try this again. DA did have some bad interceptions..however, he came into the ballgame down by 24 points. I would be disappointed if a QB wasn't trying to push it in that situation.

With that said our offense looked better with DA PERIOD. I am sick of this let's see what we have in Quinn. Give DA the chance to develop, let's see what we got in Anderson.

Gotta start DA, simply because Quinn is flat out awful.

Yup. Anderson isn't good, but he isn't as bad as Quinn.

I'm glad people have seen enough to satisfy their need to see what we have in Quinn.

I just KNEW you'd start this thread *L*

Here's what I think and believe:

Anderson isn't football-bright. He came in with the mindset that he had to win the game by himself. So that's what he tried to do.

The results were predictable.

I mentioned this in the gameday thread, but it still applies:

If you want to win a game tomorrow, you start Anderson because he makes NFL throws and makes defenses play honest.

If you want to see if Quinn even belongs in the NFL (because he certainly doesn't belong on the field at this point in his development) then you start him and accept the fact that you're going to lose game after game.

Tough decision, really.

Quinn came to us and we bought a bill of goods. He's not near-ready to be a starter. That's painfully apparent. When he got benched and Anderson came in, suddenly the ball went out on time and to receivers. He showed that he could actually check down some instead of checking down without cause.

Anderson played like a stiff with his heaves downfield, but the offense started moving the ball with him. I think if given the chance to work with the starters all week, he'd calm down and give us a chance to win, even if he gives us a chance at 4 int's.

So the question remains: If you want to win a game, you start Anderson. If you want to lose a game in order to see if Quinn even belongs, you start Quinn.

Tough call because sooner or later, we have to try and win a game............

oh loki...i expected this thread...and i fully agree with you because the offense looked alive with derek...

but in all actuality...man its hard to justify derek starting because he looked pretty bad. Those INTs were very unimpressive...I hope he starts next week with a full week of preparation...but man, that was quite the struggle. i understand Baltimore has traditionally had Dereks number, but man...that was a poor showing too from him.

All things considered. our defense let us down today too...but i agree the offense looked somewhat alive with derek...but yikes he struggled too

One QB cant move the ball, the other can, but will turn the ball over 6 times.....neither guy is worth a dime. Who cares who starts.

Of course I would. I started the thread last week

Seriously I have lost all hope for our Qbs. I really have. I know we are going to be drafting a QB come next spring. With that said DA atleast makes me want to watch the games. He makes the game interesting cause you never know what's going to happen. With Quinn I can barely watch the game.

I think we have too many holes to be a winning team. However I atleast want the browns to be competitive.

Honest question..How bad were the picks?

The first one he was trying to change routes with Furry. To me it looked like Furry was grabbed and the linebacker was then able to beat him to the spot.

or...

Made the right change to get the first down but it was clear Furry wasn't going to get any separation. Even if he did the linebacker would have been in perfect position anyway.

The second one..

He threw into double coverage but there was room for Braylon to catch it if the 2nd safety doesn't come out of nowhere

or...

He had a shot to spilt the double team but never paid attention to the other safety. Even if the third defender wasn't there it was a bad pass to begin with that had zero chance of being caught.

Third one...

He was being pressured straight up the middle and thrw a passoff of his back foot. Receiver was open but Ed Reed being as great as he sniffed out the play early and took a huge gamble that paid off.

or...

Same as last point with the exception of not bothering to even look to see where Reed was. By now he should know where he is at all times, considering he has killed DA in the past.

All 3 were bad picks.

Just a simple case of Anderson feeling as though he had to come in and win the game by himself, so he forced throws.

Pure and simple.

But don't you expect that? Wouldn't you be dissapointed in DA came in and tried to BQ it down the field? I know I would. As soon as DA came I told my dad I bet he throws 2 picks trying to win the game by himself.

Maybe I should have been clearer. Why exactly were they bad picks (or not if you can find away to justify them).

Exactly it Toad! They were bad picks, being down by 27, he probably said F it.

I understand he'd feel pressure to perform. That doesn't excuse the poor decision.

I think if given a week to run with the starters, and a chance to take the field with the score 0-0 instead of 27-0, he's a better player.

But again, that doesn't excuse the poor decisions.

I have said since last year that DA is the best option.

And I hated the prospect of seeing Quinn get the starting position.

And I hated it even more when he failed miserably.

Are the fans still gonna chant Brady as DA jogs onto the field---or if he throws a pick?

My brother made an excellent point today when he pointed out after Quinn's pick early---he said that the cb's weren't even backpedaling with the WR's. He said that the cb covering BE didn't even worry about Quinn going over top b/c he WILL NOT do it---and so he sat on the route, waiting for the throw underneath---then he picked it.

He went on to point out how a defense with BQ in can focus all 11 guys within 10-15 yards of the ball. This pretty much stuffs our run game, while also taking away any YAC yards that usually come with short throw's--cuz the defense is alredy on top of our guys whe they get the ball. Its not like they are covering downfield and need to collapse down---they are right there to make the tackle.

By putting DA in the game, defenses HAVE to respect his ability to get the ball DOWN the field. This means that they can't be content to stack the box and sit on underneath routes. They have to actually play defense, and defend the WHOLE field.

I really hope Mangini sticks with DA for next week. Give him the full week of practice and go aftre the Bengals---who are looking really decent this year.

Either way I just know I saw an average CB in Foxworth sit on a comeback route cause he had no fear of anyone going deep. Foxworth literally never took a step backwards. I guarantee if Anderson is in there and Edwards takes off down the field that CB goes with him. For me that's it.

The problem is he must say that alot..lol.

At this point I don't think it matters......they both aren't the answer, and we will be getting a new one via draft/FA. I honestly don't understand how one organization can be so terribly inadequate at picking NFL talent. Ten years later and still waiting for a starting caliber QB..........ridiculous.

Might as well bring Brad Johnson in for a look, for all the good a soft-tossin' game manager will be to us in this division and in this weather.

I saw that too, it is a dead giveaway that this offense doesn't stand much of a chance with Quinn in.

I say start BQ again next week, even though I actually now have more faith that DA can get things going for us than Quinn.
Make Quinn understand in no uncertain terms he has to move the ball and put up points or it's back to the bench.

I don't know if he can because our WR corps is mostly garbage and he seems to scared to throw the damn ball, but we need to give him a little more time, IMO. We can't keep running young QBs out of town before they get a reasonable chance to develop.
For me, right now, we've very close to the "reasonable chance" stage. WTH happened to him from the ex. schedule to now? He looked much better.
Of course so did the whole team.

Why the hell should we start Quinn?

He has shown absolutely zero proof of improvement. He either doesn't see WR'ers open down field or he isn't looking. I'm done with him.

I think he knows that by now.

But that begs the question...........what good does that do for Quinn, for Anderson, and for the team?

Anderson doesn't do well off the bench. He does his work when he's given reps with the starters, then executes a gameplan.

Quinn by now is already questioning whether or not he belongs in the NFL as a starter. Looking over his shoulder with a blunt ultimatum isn't going to help him progress.

I think you have to start.......and stick........with one or the other, because there's nothing that says either guy can come off the bench and win a game.

*shrug* pick a stiff and let him develop. That's kinda where I'm at.

It's not the players, its the organization. Sure DA may get us a couple of wins (and I'm a BQ fan) but in the end has long has this organization stays the way it is it will not matter who the QB is.

But I would be more then happy to eat crow but I got the feeling that won't happen.

What happend is what i have said would happen, give BQ the chance to develop on a horrible team, or make more yards and lose just as many whit DA giving up picks.

My question is this, why all of a sudden are we passing 2/3 of the time with DA, and runnning 2/3 of the time with BQ. If either QB fails let it be in thier own hands open the playbook and say, "you want to be the starter, show us what you got."

yeah, a lot of it is the organization, but some of it is poor fans too (on qb development) as toad said about being sold a bill of goods... savage did it to us 2x with frye and then with quinn. drafting us a childhood browns fan for a qb, bc i honestly believe he had no idea what he was doing when it came to evaluating qb talent. he drafted those guys and hyped them up the same way that bernie got hyped up in the '80s
bc of that, the fans trashed a decent qb imo for a pretty boy fan fav. robbing him of a chance to potentially develop and become better. (not saying that da is a world beater, but he clearly offers us the best chance to win of anyone we've had recently.)
no wonder the article in another thread about players that don't want to come here. this whole organization is in trouble top to bottom

At the very minimum, we don't know if they are garbage or not because Quinn is a terrible QB.

Betcha anything they start putting up numbers if Anderson starts.

yup i'll take you up on that bet, yards will go up, and picks will as well. at least he's passing downfield. We can think of it as "punting early"
