http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/09/delonte_west_misses_first_prac.htmlDelonte West misses opening practice of Cleveland Cavaliers training camp INDEPENDENCE -- Delonte West is not off to a good start with his supposed fresh start. A day after he claimed he just wanted to focus on basketball following an arrest on gun possession, he couldn't even do that on the first day of training camp. West did not report to practice at the Cleveland Clinic Courts this morning and his absence was unexcused. "On a personal note, you always hope he's doing well," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. "But I have to continue looking forward and coaching this team. Whether it is Delonte or somebody else, if they miss practice and it is unexcused it will be handled internally." Brown said team general manager Danny Ferry was handling the issue. He said he wasn't aware if Ferry or anyone else from the team had been in contact with West. "We have to try as best we can to maintain that bunker mentality and not let outside influences take us off course," Brown said. On Monday, West downplayed his gun arrest in Maryland two weeks ago. He said he was back on his medicine and back to a routine that centered around basketball. West has battled a mood disorder his whole life and last year talked about his issues publicly after leaving the team during training camp to seek treatment. "Right now what I want to focus on is this team and playing basketball," West said Monday. --------------------------- WTF? Delonte is just about to finalize what was a great situation in C-Town. He had everyone on his side in his personal battles and then the gun thing and now this. One freakin' day into camp? COME ONE DELONTE! GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUTT !!

He got hammered with questions on media day (rightfully so I imagine) and maybe just ran facing another day of it.
Hope the guy gets it together for himself, family and the Cavs.

i really hope he can overcome this. he is an important piece to our team, if i remember correctly, he was the only other guy that showed up in the orlando series.
i just really worry about that situation. where the hell was he going with 3 guns?

As always, I wasn't looking for any credit for having made a pun, but I'll take it !! Here's hoping Delonte gets over this and plays his part. I am SO looking forward to seeing how the Shaq acq works out this year.

i really think it starts the first night, you come out and slam the celtics in front of the entire world, and show them that you're serious.
i dunno if we match 66 wins, i think if everything goes perfectly, meaning shaq is healthy and fits well, powe comes back strong, and these new guys fit in, i think we can match or even break that 66. but i really think our woes on the road against the elite team are coming to an end. a low post presence, well THAT low post presence makes a big difference on the road, it'll be like having an elite level running game. shaq is one of those guys where if it's late in the game, and you need a bucket, he can go get ya one.
and i think mike brown will love the fact that when he has a lead late in the game, he doesn't have to have the big man out there to get fouled and go to the line, he can put his 7'3" backup center in there who knocks down the free ones with the best. believe me that will play a crucial role come april, may, and june.
and if powe is able to come back? wow. you're set up to be a juggernaut.

I've always believed that in the NBA it only takes 7-8 guys,...
Do we still have Wally ?

Good point...I didn't think about that. Z should be fresher coming off the bench and hack a Shaq would be less of a problem, but if its 4th Q, tied game and crunch time with D-Howard out there, Shaq needs to be in there and that could result in hack a Shaq. Should be interesting.
Back on topic, I re read my reaction to the D-West news and didn't come off very well. First, I hope he's OK. Getting into camp will help him. He'll be with "his 2nd family" and they'll take care of him. It seems he loves it here and that is what got me a bit fired up. He said he was back on the meds and was good to go, but.... I just hope he keeps taking the meds and gets back w/ the guys ASAP. I'm really pulling for the guy.

seems like his problems are always off-season. maybe too much free time?
once the nba season starts, you're pretty busy, with traveling, 3-4 games a week, practicing, team-oriented activities like charity work and signings...
i am really pulling for the guy, but he really needs to get his life in order.
