Saw that for the first time yesterday on his show,, man he has Beck down solid.. the mannerisms, the fake tears, the whining.. even the sighs and the eye rolls...

Funny. If he's that funny all the time, I may start watching him.
Is he always that good?
The thing I like about him is that he's honest. He's a comedian that knows when to be serious, and when to make fun of ANYONE that's messed up. And I do mean anyone. He's very much against bipartisanship values though. I wouldn't say he'd back up a third party candidate, but he's definitely not a dem or repub. He may have some left leanings, but I've found he's got a few right leanings also. He made fun of the stimulus package and process nonstop if i remember correctly. I'd suggest watching a couple episodes on Hulu to see if you really like him.

I think Jon Stewart is the best political commentator today.
And he does it on a fake news show on Comedy Central of all channels.

That's sad in many ways.
Again you need to read real news. Can I point you to the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal? I started my subs while at Miami University. Once you read real, pulitzer prize class reporting, over time you'll think Stewart is a clown, which he is. Watch 60 Minutes too! But don't listen to a single Scott Pelli(sp?) segment. He's awful. I'm digressing.
Anyway Stewart's a smart guy. And he's pretty funny. He does the shtick well too.
But if you think he's not a partisan figure, you really need to clean your spectacles.
When I hear that....as a comparison....I hear someone telling me how Bill O'Reilly is non-partisan. I would hope that most people know that's a sham by now.
Check him out on Hulu. There's a bunch of classic clips on there. The Colbert Report(the show that follows The Daily Show) with Stephen Colbert is hilarious, but uses a lot more satire. Both are great shows.

Well said. I was just about to post the same thing. "Best political commentator" and "best journalism" tag that I've seen Ammo throw on Stewart is a joke. He's a political comedian, nothing more. Love the guy, think he's hilarious, I watch his show every night pretty much but he's no journalist.
Like Heldawg said read the Post, Wall Street Journal, NY Times, etc.
There's a reason these newspapers get Pullitzers year in and year out and if you actually sat down and read some of these articles you'd see what true journalism is.
Yup,, so true.. You should check out the segment with Jim Cramer of Mad money.. You wanna talk about making a guy he's interviewing squirm.. holy cow.. it was great..
talking about laying a guy out.. Geesh,, stewart killed on this one...
The really funny stuff is all of Stewarts shows leading up to this interview.. Cramer would say something, Stewart would point out the Bull in it and then show a video of cramer proving stewarts point. Crazy stuff..
I promise you Arch,, what you will see is funny.. even if he attacks someone you think is a "good guy"... he does it in such a way that he makes you just look at how absurd some folks really are.
For those that knocked Ammo over this stewart thing,, you should also see this Cramer interview and review that stuff.. I think if you open up your minds you will see that occasionally, Stewart will hit hard. it may not be pleasing to you, but it is what it is..
First and foremost, it's a comedy show..but I wouldn't try to throw crap at Stewart,, he's much smarter than some might think

What does it say about us, the People, as a nation when we enter into serious discussion about national policy and we inevitably end up touting or or slandering entertainers?
How completely freaking screwed up are our perceptions that entertainers/celebrities are among the biggest influences?

Not sure exactly why you said that.. I mean, as I said, his show is first and foremost a comedy show. I'd only suggest you take it as it comes and enjoy the humor. He does occasionally make a good point or two.. but one must remember, he's a comic.. if you take it that way, there isn't a problem.. just know the boundaries.. I suppose some don't...

THey reach the masses in a very effective manner... That's why they influence folks.. is that screwed up... yes and no.. no more screwed up than listening to our politicians... most of which only wish to line thier own pockets with OUR gold... I apologize to the few that actually care,

How many political discussions occur on here where you see things blasted around about Rush, Beck, Hannity, Jon Stewart, <insert whatever other name you can think of>, etc...?
The most heated outlashes seems to be directed at people in the entertainment industry... which means that WAY TOO MUCH value is being placed on what they have to say. I could ramble on about a bunch of things, but the point is this: people wouldn't put any extra value into the political leanings of what their plumber has to tell you... so, why do people put extra value into what the people who kill their free time have to say?
Quote: is that screwed up... yes and no..
Definitively Yes. It's worse than listening to our politicians because it is forming an opinion based upon their opinion and the view they choose to present of the politicians, instead of forming your own.
Browns is the Browns

On the first point,, thanks for explaining,, I understand what you meant now..
As to the second point,, I'm sticking with Yes and No and my reasoning is simple, we are supposed to be smart enough to know the difference between the two.. (beck or(insert name here) and politician)
But I do see where you are coming from.. not everyone is aware of the difference.. that's pretty much why when I listen to Beck (rarely) I know what I"m getting and take it for what it is.. same exact way I view a Keith Olberman or Rachal Maddow.
But with Stewart,, for what ever reason (you and I have met so you know I love to laugh and be amused) he just cracks me up.,.
Every once in a while he will say something of REAL value.. but most times , it's satire.. if we take it as such,, cool..enjoy.
If not,, woe is us...

Used to be you had politicians.... you had news people that reported on politicians and you had entertainers that made fun of politicians. Now you have entertainers posing as news people, the media that wants to influence politics not just report on it and politicians who, every time they open their mouths look dumber than the best comedians... you need a scorecard to know who is who.
I would guess he's not, but net neutrality is and issue coming up in our neck of the woods too. It's a dangerous precedent to allow companies the power to choose what we can look at and what we can't by allowing more bandwidth to selected groups of sites. Comcast already showed that we can't just leave it up to them. In this aspect, I think the government is right to step in for the common person and protect this freedom of information to all.
Not to speak for him, but I think he was just pointing out the irony of a guy telling China they should censor the internet, when back at home he's trying to silence Glenn Beck, Fox News, and anyone who disagrees with him.

I know that's what he meant.. either that or he just wanted to jab at Obama.. either way, I was just having some fun with him.. he's a big boy, he can take it.
