I've grown bored with all the cds and songs on my mp3 player. I'm looking for suggestions on things to listen too. I don't care if it's new or old and I have a wide variety of music i like (classic rock, metal -as long as it isn't just arbitrary yelling, there has to be some actually singing-, rap, just about anything.
Jay-Z's new album Death of the autotune. Sean Kingston is great. Duffy (a girl who has the most amazing voice) sings old standards in a new way. Devil makes three. ( a great new Bluegrass band that rocks). Neptunes any album Whipsaws. A blues/rocks/booze/slide guitar type band from Alaska. 36 crazyfist, a metal band from Alaska.
That's it off the top of my head. More to come I'm sure.
Check out their live album: "Live At The Googoplex"
Hah! I came here to say "CLUTCH!"
I've also enjoyed what I've been finding from a group called Beast out of Montreal. Kind of a punk/funk rock.
Will be checking them out soon. Thanks!
I'd also recommend Fu Manchu (rock), Galactic (funk), Morphine (alternative rock w/ sax), and A Tribe Called Quest (most modern hip hop I'll listen to)

The only one off that list ive ever heard of was jz, and still dont know one song ... err ..rap he does.
Hey he asked for new music he hadn't heard before. So I put in band most people probally haven't heard of before. (well Jay-Z and Kingston are famous).
AND.....all the music on Jay-Z's new album was done with actual instruments. Very cool.
The Allgood Funk Alliance- Slingshot Boogie (funk) Blackshirt Highwaymen- ? (they only have one album) (delta blues with a sexy twist) Nicodemus- Endangered Species Remix (varies between hip hop and rock and other influences)
I listen to bands like Linkin Park, Disturbed, Hollywood Undead, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace also has a new album out, Hoobastank, Simple Plan.
If you haven't heard the Travelling Wilbury's i highly recomend their album, I especially like end of the line. I've just started getting into Asher Roth as well (he's known for "I love college" but he also did a mixtape cd where he inversed his own lyrics into other tracks which is my favorite album at the moment.
On a personal note, my little brothers just got Rockband: The Beatles, and i completely forgot exactly how many great songs they made over the years.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
I've been going through the same thing and "discovered" a band called Eels that I don't know how I missed during the 90s. I saw a special on PBS about the band's creator Mark Everett. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eels_(band)
A band called "Mother Love Bone" is also worth a listen if you like Pearl Jam. The founders of Pearl Jam had this band prior to Pearl Jams existence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_Love_Bone
I've been using Wiki to find ties to bands I like to see what they did prior (or after).
I just picked up the new 3 Days Grace and Chickenfoot. (with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Give me a few days and I'll have a better idea how good they are. lol
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
King, have you heard anything from the new AIC album? If not, you might be pleasantly surprised. I was of the same mindset when I first heard they reformed and were working on new album, but this thing is awesome. Also, guitarist/songwriter Jerry Cantrell sings almost every song and William Duvalls' voice blends really well with his to create those signature AIC vocal harmonies that he and Layne did so well together. Check out the song "Black Gives Way To Blue" it is a touching tribute to Layne and they managed to get Elton John to play piano on it.
Quote: Ha, that's probably the only GWAR tune that would be acceptable on this board. "Sad whale, baby"
He asked for something different and I gave, within the limits of the board. Certainly, good GWAR will have to be found outside this board, but it is great music IMHO. Personally, I feel that AtzingerB should go the a GWAR concert in a white t-shirt, and see what he returns with.
Ensiferum. It's not yelling. They classify themselves as Heroic Folk Metal. I think their music is fun. Kinda has that Norsemen feel and sound. Not overly hard, some of it can be a little cheesely lyrically, but it's good stuff.
Quote: The new Alice In Chains album "Black Gives Way To Blue" is fantastic.
Blasphemy!! I just cant listen to Alice In Chains without Layne Staley.

Why? It was more Cantrell's band than Stayley's and Cantrell was way more responsible for the sound (in their harmonizing) than most people think. What was he supposed to do? Just stop making music? It's way different than if Nirvana continued on without Cobain...
Unless you saw Cantrell live on a solo tour I don't think people realize how much he is the band....

Do they still do Cleveland every Halloween?
They're playing on the 18th this year, at the HOB. It's been a few years since I've seen them.

Thanks, I will check it out. I have just been resistant to AIC without L Staley to this point. I guess I will break down eventually and give it a try.
