I was listening to WKNR last week and the proposed the question that if you knew the Browns would never make a playoff game for the next 50 years and would be the bottom team that whole time would you root for another team and if so what team would you root for.

So I got to thinking that if I wouldn't have ended up a Browns fan what team would I have rooted for.

I think I would have probably been a Bears fan. They have a a great history and some of the most memorable players in NFL history in Gail Sayers and Walter Payton. I like Lovie Smith and Jay Cutler, they're defense is pretty good when healthy. Plus my aunt lived in Chicago and me and my family used to go there to visit when I was little. I don't remember much about the city because I haven't been there since my aunt died which was over 20 years ago.

If I HAD to pick another team to root for I would probably have to go with the Bears. Plus they are one team I seem to find myself watching whenever I catch it on.

What team would any of you root for if you had to pick another team and is there a story behind it?

When the Browns were gone I rooted for the Packers, just couldnt really get into them though. I just dont think I could ever get into another time like I have with the Browns. Just couldnt have them in my heart like I do the Brownies.

I "rooted" (and I use that term loosely), for the Packers, when the Browns were gone, too.

I was a Packer watcher when the Browns were gone as well. I didn't support them with merchandise buys and stuff, but I watched them and the Steelers. Hoping the Steelers beat the snot out of the Ratbirds every single time.

I've been a Browns fan since I was a kid. I couldn't pick a new team....I liked watching the Jags, Raiders and Vikings
when we were in hiatus, but it was a far stretch from being a fan of those teams.

I did thoroughly enjoy watching the bungles and steelers lose just as much as I do now. I'll forever be grateful for Dan Rooney speaking up for the Browns, though.

...I'd probably be a lot happier on Sunday afternoons.

I "sorta" root for the Bears, since I live here and have season tickets. But I can't really be happy knowing my team will probably never win a title in my lifetime.

While the Browns didn't exist I became a fan of my current second favorite team behind the Browns.

Who ever was playing the Ravens.

So in a sense I guess one could say I became an "anti-Ravens" fan.

I was a Cowboys "fan". Why? Because my big brother was (he's a good Browns fan and Cowboys hater now), and I was too little to know better. Now the team I also kind of root for (no where near to the level of the Browns) is the Rams.

It would have to be a process of elimination for me.

First out would be any teams from Texas (Dallas, Houston).

Not too keen on Florida either (Miami, Tampa-St Pete, Jacksonville)

Teams playing in domes are definitely out (Arizona, Detroit, Indy, Atlanta, St Louie, Minnesota, New Orleons)

Stripes on helmits are fine, but I hate those inspired by a backgammon board (Denver, Baltimore, Titans and I going to toss in Carolina here too)

Browns division rivals are gone (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati)

If you're playing in essentially a baseball stadium bye-bye (Oakland, San Francisco, San Diego)

Any team splitting their games between cities is gone (Buffalo/Toronto Bills)

Any team that was formerly coached by Nick Skorich (Philly)

Don't want to be a front-runner and so from the 8 remaining I'm going to eliminate past Super Bowl winners (Kansas City, Green Bay, Chicago, Jets, Giants, New England, Washington - although have to admit I was fond of the Redskins when they were coached by Otto Graham and later George Allen).

The winner is - Seattle Seahawks.

If I knew it would be like this for 50 years, I'd give up NFL football and only watch college.

If the Browns just left Cleveland for good w/ no replacement franchise, my fallback team would be Buffalo. AFC team, blue collar, cold weather, dedicated fans.

Of course that might just lead to more disappointment w/ their troubles. Also the whole Canada thing is annoying.

My favorite NFC team has always been the Falcons from the time that I lived in Georgia as a kid just getting into football for the first time.

Rooting for this team might lead to some happiness and satisfaction.

Probably be a Tampa Bay fan, Living here for 20 years now, I have grown to have an interest in them whereas I seem to have no interest in Miami. Both teams are a little over 1hr drive from where I live.

When the Browns were gone, I semi-followed the Titans because of Eddie George. Since he is no longer there, I don't care.

In all honesty, after 50 years, I would probably still root for the Browns. As long as they were in the league.

If they were no longer playing.....hmmm, right now, I really enjoy watching Adrian "All Day" Peterson tote the rock, but really couldn't cheer much for Favre. I just don't know....I may just be a ''football fan."

Honestly have no idea. I've been a Browns fan since I can remember even knowing what a football was.

When Cleveland had no team for 3 years, I didn't watch football, aside from a couple of playoff games, and the 3 superbowls. I did other things on Sunday afternoons - one of which was become a NASCAR fan. Didn't watch a single entire game of regular season football for 3 years.

Dang - that name just flows, doesn't it? I'm serious........wasn't his first name so difficult to pronounce that he just used "Tim", or am I dreaming?

Having been born and raised just outside of Pittsburgh, I'd say the Steelers. After that, probalby the 49ers

As a boy, my grandpa did business at a boathouse owned by KC Chiefs QB Lenny Dawsons sister. They had pictures all over the wall and we had even ran into him there one spring in the late 60's. As an adult I bought a fishing boat off her and just so happened when I picked it up she was on the phone with him, she handed it to me and said "say hello". Pretty cool stuff! So, since the mid 60's or so I've always been a Chiefs fan...I'm a double loser!!!

Also, my brother in law played for the St. luis Cardinals (early 70's) I spent a few days in training camp with them when I was 11 or 12. Hung out with then GM Larry Wilson, caught some passes from Jim Hart and shagged some FG's from Jim Bakken. So I followed the Cards for two years then he (bro in law) jumped to Shreveport of the WFL.

Looking back I was a pretty lucky little guy!

Same here GM... I am glad I was raised a Buckeye, cause at least we had that on Saturdays when the Browns were gone..

That being said, I didn't root for anyone when we were gone for 3 years.. I just can't get excited about other NFL teams ::shrug::

It's hard to imagine rooting for someone else, but I think the question was more of "If the Browns never existed".

If the Browns never existed, I'm sure I'd have rooted for another team. Who? I don't know. Maybe Cincinnati, since I'm close to there?

Yeah the question was merely about if you hadn't become a Browns fan.

All the stuff about WKNR and the 50 year stuff was just what struck up this thought.

That's a hard one.

Location wise I'm closest to the Bungles, but that's out of the question. I'd rather root for no team then root for them.

Second closest...Colts. I've always liked Manning, but I can't see myself getting as pumped about the Colts as I do about the Browns.

I've always had a thing for the Eagles...storied history, intense fans. But...they aren't the Browns.

That's why I play Fantasy football...then I make my own team and root for them..though if I was pressed I would root for an NFC team...probably the Vikings..when I played football(showing my age here) I played defensive end and I picked number 81 because it was the Carl Eller's number, back when numbers in the 80's could be used for D linemen.

I can't "pick" a team ... it happens naturally or not at all. It's like falling in love... who knows when, how or why?

I was a Chargers fan for years - but not a diehard - until I started rooting for the Browns, & the Chargers are still my 2nd-favorite team. Used to love watching them when they had Dan Fouts.

This reminds me of some guy who was in one of my classes. During a discussion in my speech class, someone mentioned the Steelers, and he started mocking them. It's pretty rare in these parts to NOT be a Steeler fan, so of course after class I asked him "Who is your team anyways?" To which he repled..."Who's my TEAM? Well...it's the Vikings. But it used to be the Packers".

This guy is actually a Brett Farve fan and follows him to whatever teams he plays for. I simply cannot understand people who are only fans of a single player, instead of a team.

Join the crowd bro. I didn't give a crap about any team when the Browns left (except whoever was playing the Steelers) I only watched the games I had FF players in, and I didn't care who won.

I have a thing for the Eagles too. Love the how rabid their fans are.

I was a fan of the Greatest Show on Turf Rams but that ship sailed.

The way I see it: Those are teams I like WATCHING...doesn't make me a big fan of them though. If they suck I could go away.

I can't go away from my Browns unless something major happens.

I could not watch a lot of the NFL when the Browns were gone.........I became a serious Ohio State Buckeye fan and found better things to do on Sunday then watch the NFL without the Browns!

I tried for a couple of weeks to get into the Jacksonville team...that is where I was living when Modell made the decision........I just could not do it!

I will never ever forget the Modell press conference when he made that decision....and I will never forget where I was at the time!

The sad thing about it....I was at the very last game before the move and it was in Jacksonville!

It was very emotional to say the least!

And to think how crappy this team has been ever since!
