I'll just respond to that with these quotes of yours. This is what made me mad:

Quote:

disturbed is some of the worst music i've ever heard

Quote:

distubred is hard rock, cheesy hard rock

it's the same 3 freaking power chords over and over and over.

I know you were talking to Candy but I will chime in and say it doesnt make me mad. I just really like what Dave Draiman does with the vocals. The Sickness was a great album, and at the time very unique.

Also I have met him, he was actually really cool, not that it matters anyways.

It's not disrespect. I just don't like how this band and their ilk have co-opted what is probably the purest of all genres of heavy rock music, in the form of extreme metal, and totally made it bland, watered down and totally accessible. These bands try to do what so many bands since KISS have tried unsuccessfully to do, which is market style over substance with the same tired results. Teen-angst lyrics, silly clothes and bad haircuts only work when your music is genuine. Otherwise its just an image.

Give me Carcass' Heartwork, Slayer's Seasons In The Abyss, Converge's Jane Doe or High On Fire's Death Is This Communion, please.

Yeah, I got them in Cleveland and Toledo right after Jane Doe came out. Little hole-in-the-wall places, too. Seen them a couple times since. They're always a great show.

i just looked them up, they're chicago kids, wikipedia says they are similiar to pelican, who is also from chicago.

i'm pretty surprised i haven't heard more about them, with them being locals, and also playing shows with a ton of bands that i enjoy. minus the bear, pelican, coheed and cambria..

i've actually seen pelican in concert, i think it was 04 i saw isis, these arms are snakes, and pelican at the metro, great show, and we happened to be sitting up in the balcony with the family and friends of pelican, they were extremely nice and gave us afterparty passes. pretty cool, got to meet aaron and the guys from isis. they were great people.

i pretty much love most of hydra head.

Yeah I figured that, given the stuff you seem to be into and the fact that you're in Chicago, you'd probably be into them. Their bass player is actually Brian Cook, who is also the bass player from These Arms Are Snakes and, of course, was the bass player in Botch. They have a split record out with TAAS, too.

I missed that ISIS, TAAS, Pelican show when it rolled through my area back when, but the two guys I was in a band with at the time caught it. The guitarist of that band lives in LA now and happened to befriend the drummer from ISIS when he found out they go to the same gym. I've seen TAAS a few times and they put on a good show.

I think we've successfully derailed this thread...

Haha guess I'm the only Iced Earth fan here, I voted for Barlow. Not so sure he is the best but his voice just goes really good with the songs and band, it just wasn't the same with Ripper singing. Ripper has some pretty sick pipes too tho.

My favorite band is Metallica, and my first stadium show was Dio but I went with Halford.

Hetfield never really had a powerful voice, probably the best damn band, probably a great singer/guitarist but not best vocalist.

Dio has a great voice, better show and has been rocking forever...but I went with the solid Halford sound.

Never been a big KD fan, a few songs were cool but after that it was just...odd.

i don't know if hetfield has the best voice, but it's a great voice. it's very distinct.

metallica post-the black album, has been so-so, some decent stuff, some stuff downright embarassing (st. anger) but their old stuff is legend.

I am no metal fan by any means, but even I know Hetfield is the best just like most non country fans know George Strait is the best country singer.

It's just the way it is.

What about Glenn Danzig? His voice is great. His lyrics are a bit dark but between the Misfits,Samhain and Danzig there is alot of songs that show his range. Check out Sistinas on youtube. Killer song. http://www.youtube.com/v/muh66sQaWE8

I think you meant to type "Jones" but instead typed Strait.
You musta run out of threads to read - if you found your way here... hahaha.
Sorry peen, stick to Hank Jr. and stuff like that (I love Bocephus ); Hetfield is FARRRRRRRR from being the best. IMO of course, but also the opinion of a lot of others. Art is so subjective, but I find Hetfield is an awful singer.

I think a good comparison to a non metal fan saying Hetfield is the best ever would be a non country fan saying Garth Brooks is the best ever.

When we all know Willie Nelson is the greatest voice in country music ever

Depends on your definition for singer, to me, a singer isn't only a great vocalist but a great lyricist.

My choices are (in no order): Maynard James Keenan (probably the greatest lyricist ever), Layne Staley, James Hetfield, Axl Rose, Trent Reznor, Chris Cornell.

Yeah Maynard for me also. Dig Layne also. The new Alice in Chains singer does a pretty good Layne Staley actually.

Saw Priest in 2008. Only bought a ticket as the Cavalera Conspiracy were supporting (old Sepultura fan from way back ) but they pulled out. Priest put on a good show, i was impressed.

Dio is as sick as a dog these days, he's got some kind of Cancer. Hope he pulls through.

A lot of the guys i like have been mentioned. I dig Opeth (from Sweden i think) their singer does a pretty mean clean vocal when he isn't growling ( i like the growling too btw though its not for everyone.)

Nope.

Opeth

Quote:

Vocally, Åkerfeldt shifts between growling death metal vocals for heavy sections, and clean, sometimes whispered vocals over acoustic passages. While death growls were dominant on early releases, later efforts incorporate more clean vocals, with the 2003 release Damnation featuring only clean singing.[51] Rivadavia noted that "Åkerfeldt's vocals run the gamut from bowel-churning grunts to melodies of chilling beauty—depending on each movement section's mood."[15]

Ã…kerfeldt's lyrics are often poetic and metaphorical, focusing on the bleak side of human nature. In albums such as Blackwater Park, Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse, all of the songs are unified under a single theme. In My Arms Your Hearse, the last lyric of each song is the title of the next song on the record, providing a sense of fluidity and cohesiveness to the album.

The Blackwater Park album gets some heavy rotation on my iPod.

Out of the people on the list I voted Dio, my favorite though would easily be Layne Staley

I, too, love and identify with Maynard's insanity. He definitely is the best lyricist ever.

For those of you who get HDNET channel, they are playing Judas Priest 30th anniversary of British Steel Live this month. Rob can still lay it down.

For heavy metal in the purest sense, its Rob Halford. Pavaroti even said Rob Halford is the best singer he's heard. That right there validates it.
For you doubters, listen to British Steel,Screaming for Vengence,Painkiller.....
Bruce Dickinson should be on that list. Its a darn crime he isn't.
In the hard rock genre,Klaus Meine of the Scorpians can sing with the best of them.
But Ian Gillan of Deep Purple is in the same league as Halford.
Gillan buries Robert Plant. "Child in Time" makes "Stairway" look like Ricky Martin.
A little know gem is when Gillan did his one and only Sabbath record that being "Born Again".
"Disturbing the Priest" by itself stomps anything that homo Aaron Lewis of Staind can sing.
Staind is as much metal as Brittney Spears is.
Ozzy Osbourne used to have a good range. Too bad he can't sing "Hole in the Sky" anymore or "Into the Void" live. Heck I will throw in "Supernaut".
There are no more good singers left......at least none that can do 35 year plus careers like Paul Stanley, Klaus Meine, Ozzy.
In closing Marc Storace of Krokus is underated.

I only consider ozzy hard rock, metal singers don't do love duets. I like aozzy though.
I voted for hetfield, even though I don't like them and turned in my metalica fandom when they declared war on thier fans for downloading thier stuff.
