I have a question about when they play playoff games. Day vs Night games.
Why does baseball continue to play playoff games at night? Especially in cold weather. I understand the money in prime time thing.
I'm sitting here watching the Yankees and Angels with the game being played here in California? It started at 1pm CA time.
When the Rockies were still alive they had to postpone a game b/c of weather. Why were they not playing during the day when the weather was nice in Denver? It doesn't make sense to me. They play day games on the west coast, and night games on the east coast.

I think you answered your own question, my friend. The money is way more important than getting it right.
I gave up on that concept a long time ago.

yup, prime time slots. that's why those games start late too, so they can get primetime on the west coast too. it's a joke, like the rest of baseball.

I wouldn't mind so much if the cold weather wasn't a factor. The season is just too long, and the playoffs don't involve enough teams.

Agreed, my only World Series game in my life I was bundled up more than any Browns game I'd ever been to! Except maybe that Game a year or so before they left, think it was against MN, 20 below or so as I recall.

I want to say the game was an overtime game won in overtime by us. I'm not 100% sure on the opponent but I'm sure it was flippin freezing!!!!

The Van Waiters Minnesota OT game was 1989, and it was freezing butt cold. I was there. Faked a FG and threw a 3rd down TD to Waiters (I think it was Waiters,...)

Yep. I have that game on VHS. Mike Pagel was our holder. He threw the pass to Waiters for the game winner on the fake FG. It was awesome.

Just asking a question...
You say the season is too long - yet you want more teams in the playoffs? Wouldn't one cancel out the other?
I'd guess the only way you could have both would be to shorten the regular season schedule to say, 154 games and make all rounds best of 5 - but it seems like it would still wrap up about the same time.
My proposal when I get to be commish - shorten spring training by a week, keep the schedule the way it is, keep the playoffs the way they are set up but get rid of the ridiculous off days. That would shorten the season by about two weeks I'm guessing. There's no reason for the "play two - take a day off" method in the playoffs and there's absolutely no reason for a 3-5 day wait in between rounds.
And I realize that spring training ending about the third week of March could cause problems for the east coast teams - simple solution - every cold weather team not playing in a dome goes on the road to the west and south - or a dome - for a week.
It's almost too easy.

Against New England in the '94 season (game was played January 1st of '95)? Not an overtime win, but our last playoff victory.

I was at that one too,...it was cold, but not as cold as the Minnesota OT.

I'm only wanting to add another 3-game round, maybe 2 more wild card teams, shorten the season to 148, reinvigorate doubleheaders, and definitely eliminate playoff off days. That waiting around BS because of the Vikings playing football is horsedung. There's easier ways to break ties. Cold weather baseball is as bad for the game as small market is.
Like lbj says, baseball is broke.
Just gettin' out of the box,...
