I was watching Virginia Tech versus North Carolina last night and having similar thoughts about Tyrod Taylor. If he was available mid-draft I think he would be a great pick. He's like Troy Smith, only with more talent. Or a Tony Romo with less talent. He doesn't really have a rocket arm or perfect accuracy; but he is very athletic, can move around in the pocket, and make most throws. I know he's only a Junior, but he's made major strides with his passing ability. Last year he started ten games as a true sophomore and was 99/173 for 1,036 yards, with 2 TD's and 7 INT's in 10 starts. He also ran for 738 yards and 7 TD's. This year he has started eight games so far and is 79/141 for 1,315 yards, with 9 TD's and 3 INT's. He has ran for 150 yards and 3 TD's. He could be an interesting guy when he graduates/leaves early.

You can tell Mangini really loves him when you look at how he went after Brett Favre.

There's speculation that his time with the Rams is up after this year.

I kind of agree with, Ammo
Minus the whole man-crush on Tebow. I think he'll be a QB in the NFL, and I think he'll surprise a lot of people.
Is he going to be a Peyton Manning? Of course not, but I think he can be a Ben Rothlisberger type QB.
I can't believe that no one called you out on this.
Rothlisberger is a hell of a thrower. He's got a great arm and is highly accurate. He also has a very good tight throwing motion and he gets it out of his hand quick.
There was a game against Marshall where he drove Miami down the field in 20 yard chunks throwing frozen ropes into a steady 35-40 mph wind. It was redunculous.
There is no way Tebow does that.....
Unless he uses his staff, parts the wind, then throws the football.

I could debate why I think Tebow will be a good NFL QB in the right situation, but it would be useless because everyone elses opinion is below yours.

Really? I have never had a problem debating with ANYONE. I'll give you the reasons he won't be. If you want to feel free to debate.
1. Lack of Arm Strength: It just isn't there. He can't throw the deep ball or fit the ball into tight holes.
2. Reading Coverages: In the spread offense, a quarterback doesn't make reads very often. Tebow does even less than most QB's. He never changes the play or makes any adjustments. He just calls hike and throws to the designated wide out.
3. Footwork: Every play is out of the shotgun. He never drops back and his footwork is just awful.
4. Slow Release: It takes way too long for him to get rid of the ball. It's almost Byron Leftwhich like.

I'm saying it's a bad comparison to make.
I do think Tebow will be successful as something in the NFL. I would like to see him drafted by the Browns.
But comparing him as a passer in college to Rothlisberger in college is apples and oranges from a passing ability standpoint.
They're both big, white and can move well. But Rothlisberger has a great arm whereas Tebow has a below NFL QB caliber arm and has a huge windup.
From a technique standpoint it's awful.

Tim Tebow's arm reminds me of Byron Leftwich.
Tim Tebow's running ability reminds me of Heath Miller.
I've said before and I'll say it again. If Tebow gets in the right situation (good Head Coach, good offensive coordinator) then he will be a successful NFL quarterback.
Off the top of my head those places are New England, Indianapolis, and Philadelphia. And Philly already has a project on their hands.
I've also said this before, I see Tebow going to the Patriots. Urban Meyer and Belichick are buddies. Belichick will teach Tebow how to be an NFL quarterback. Then in three or four years when Brady is 36/37 years old you bring Tebow in. Or once Tebow learns how to be a QB they trade him.

Our line won't open any more holes for Tebow than it does for Lewis and we don't need someone else in the back field with happy feet.

I was at that game and that is no exaggeration he was accurately throwing 20 yard bullets into that wind.

I don't think the team should make QB the first priorty at this stage. I am beginning to think that their best bet would be to spend their first two draft choices on a RG and RT. then spend our other 2nd or two third round draft choices (depending on Edwards season with the Jets) on a MLB and OLB. I feel games are won and lost in the trenches and if this team is going to suceed it needs to build it from the lines out. If we get a QB in free agency great....but lets not worry about drafting one til we have a surrounding cast first.

Here's another reason why we need a quarterback: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?s...mp;d-447263-n=1I know stats are for losers, don't tell the whole story (true), yadayadayada, but this one just goes to show you how important QB play is in the modern NFL. The top 14 rated QBs, in order, are Rodgers, P. Manning, Brees, Favre, McNabb, Roethlisberger, Schaub, Brady, Romo, Rivers, Flacco, Orton, Ryah, and Palmer. *ALL* of them have winning records. The bottom 14 rated QBs, in order starting with the lowest, are Anderson, Russell, Johnson, Delhomme, Stafford, Collins, Sanchez, Bulger, Leftwich, Edwards, Cassel, Henne, Garrard, and Shaun Hill. *ALL* of them have losing records except for Sanchez, and the Jets are 4-4 and have lost 4 of their last 5. I understand that QB rating isn't the be-all, end-all of QB play, and bad supporting casts tends to lead to bad QB play (then again, I could just as easily point to Aaron Rodgers and his 110 QB rating despite playing behind a line that is much worse than ours). It's a pretty amazing correlation actually. This team NEEDS a QB, and quality, long-term solutions at QB are not easy to come by. Young, talented QB's virtually never can be had in free agency, and all the best prospects are taken in the first round. So I'm not saying we HAVE to draft one in the first round next year, we need to find a guy that can play the position and it's probably going to eventually take a high pick to get him. I'd rather not push the solution even further into the future than we have to unless nobody is worth taking with the pick.

It's too early but if Mangini is here..and he takes a QB next draft..keep yours eye peeled for this name.. or a QB similar to him..like unknown..
John Skelton-Fordam...
Check him out..some of you know when I pluck out a name...something is brewing..I doubt if Genius goes for a 1st round QB..doesn't mean he will or won't....but look out for mid -round QB's with high ratings that pop up as the college season wears on....

I like Riley Skinner from Wake Forest if we go QB in a later round, senior, very smart, accurate, smart... and accurate. He lacks the kind of size you like in an NFL QB at 6', 210... so I'm NOT saying I want to take him, but I happen to think he could be a decent QB in the NFL...

Of the seniors I think Dan LeFevour is the best.
I bet he goes up people's draft boards quickly once the combine and Senior All-Star games start up.

Barkley's gonna be awesome. I've never seen a more surefire #1 pick. And he's only a freshman. Only way he doesn't go 1st is if it's a team who doesn't need a QB.

Yep. If I was in charge of this team, I'd be building everything but QB, saving draft picks so I can trade them all to move up to get Barclay.

I really hope the Browns do that. Draft other positions of need and finnally build a team around a QB. That way when he declares we can afford to trade up and get him.
The amount of potential Barkley has is unbelievabe. He's not just hype

I live in Southern California.
About 15 minutes from the Coliseum.
Barkley is mostly hype. Pete Carroll has been building him up and Barkley has done nothing.
Like I said before, he's not even the best true freshman QB in the Pac-10. That is Andrew Luck.

I don't think it's hype at all. A lot of the players out of USC are hype, but Barkley isn't. He's legit.

I think he could end up on a similar level as Peyton Manning was. Definitely above Sanchez and probably Carson too. He doesn't look like a freshman.

Not sure what I think about him yet.
There are two things I do know though.
1. He doesn't have an elite arm. 2. The game is not too big for him.
But arm strength isn't the end all be all out of the QB position. I'll continue watching. Maybe he's going to be a good one. Too early to tell for me though.

i've seen all the USC games this year...and I agree, he's more than just hype...
but he's not a 1st round pick right now....so you have to assume he's going to continue to develop (which it sure seems like he will)
