Cribbs not happy with Cleveland fans
Posted by Mike Florio on October 27, 2009 9:09 AM ET
Toward the end of Sunday's home loss to Green Bay, Cleveland fans unhappy with the Browns' effort were chanting, "Go, Pack, Go."

And Browns receiver Josh Cribbs didn't like it.

"It hurts," Cribbs said, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I almost want to run up in the stands. That should never happen."

He's right. But those responsible for keeping it from happening are Cribbs and his coworkers.

When teams are consistently bad, the fans come up with creative ways to let their feelings on the situation be known.

And, frankly, we'd much rather see fans hurl shouts and insults than beer bottles and batteries.

Ummmmm....I was at the game, and those were Packer fans Josh. I like the guy a lot, but come on dude, you didn't see all the Green Bay colors in the stadium?????

Yeah, I think ol' Josh is wrong here. They were yelling that the whole game, but then the Browns fans would boo loud enough to drown them out.

By the end of the game, there were so few browns fans left that you couldn't drown the Packers fans out.

No doubt... I didn't see one Browns fan chanting "Go Pack Go" in my section.

The "boos" on the otherhand... this shouldn't surprise any of the players. When the play on the field is more entertaining than the pee wee football played at halftime, the boos will turn to cheers. Pretty simple really.

I loved it when the kids ran into the dawg pound after scoring. Honestly, that was the highlight of the 3 hours I sat in the stadium.

I agree... the little nippers played with loads of heart and enthusiasm.

Didn't see much of that on the field from the "professionals" in brown and orange.

I was in the men's room at halftime, so I didn't get to see the pee-wees, which I usually enjoy watching.

I did, however, get to hear some great trash talk in the bathroom.

Random fan: "Stupid Packers fans. They're probably Buckeye fans, too, bunch of bandwagoners."

Me: "What?"

Guy at urinal next to me: "Yeah, I didn't quite understand that."

Me: "I think if you need a flow chart to understand the smack talk, it's not very good smack talk."

Shut up & play...

you dont know what hurt is ya whinner.....hurt is loving the Browns more than just about anything in this world, except your children, wife is debatible, and seeing that once great franchise become the greatest laughing stock in thew NFL if not sports, hurt is afraid or tired of wearing your Browns jacket becuase your tired of all the loser comments you hear, hurt is wanting something so bad and seeing players of that team care more about getting an extra million than getting an extra yard. So josh dont give us fans that old it hurts us players crying sob story, you dont know what hurt is, I've been a Browns fan all ,my life, the last 10 have hurt....seeing last weeks game hurt us more than it hurt you.

him saying it hurts is hilarious. obviously he doesn't have to watch these games as a fan. because it's been downright painful all year.

i highly doubt browns fans were chanting go pack go, but even if they did, who cares. start scoring touchdowns and they'll cheer for you again, and maybe some fans won't be so easy to sell their tickets to fans of opposing teams.

Sorry Josh, but what hurts is spending lots of hard earned money to take your family to the game and have to explain to your kids why they should be Browns fans after watching that garbage.

Great point. Costs a good chunk of change to take a family to the game and then to watch this??? No thanks.

I am to the point I don't boo the team anymore, and rarely have a chance to cheer...Sunday I sat mostly numb until middle of the 3rd qtr and finally said to my son to let me know when he wanted to leave...he said let's go...I got up and we left.

20 hours of driving up for games to only be able to take 2.5 qtrs of Packer practice is beginning to drain me.

I just never understood booing your own team.....No matter how bad.

What are you trying to achieve? It's like, hey, here's a bad situation---lets do our best to make it even worse!!!

Its not constructive, its not positive.

It doesn't ever help----so why do it?

Cuz your so sad you spent your hard earned money? Whose fault is that---your own. Minds well boo yourself.

I just think its dumb and shows poorly on the city---makes us look classless---> but I guess this is Cleveland.

I see no problem with booing as long as it is done at the right moments.

Drop a critical 3rd down pass after the offense has been looking horrid all day....expect to be booed.

throw your 3rd interception of a day (or half)....expect to be booed.

fumble the ball inside the redzone for a team that can barely score as it is...expect to be booed.

one from the Redskins game last night.....give up a 57 yard TD on 3rd and 20+ with under a minute left in the game that wasn't a blowout until that happened......yeah, expect to be booed.

Tyler, this isn't college or high school football, this is pro football. These "professionals" are compensated quite well. If they don't give the hard working citizens of Cleveland and transplants across the country (like myself who drives or flys up from Raleigh) a good product on the field or even more, a LACK of EFFORT, then they should be reminded that it is unacceptable.

I guess we could not show up as well. However then the economy of Cleveland will suffer due to the number of people that do come from out of town to see them play. Then again, most fans have wised up and just put their tickets on Ebay to be purchased by opposing teams' fans.

Yeah. He was all decked out in Browns gear, too. I think his pops was a bit miffed.

At first, I thought it was Browns fans chanting "Go Brett go" since the Vikes were playing the Steelers.

I'm considering starting a "Let's go Cavs!" chant at the next game I go to if the score gets out of hand.

Yeah, spending your money on Browns tickets will really show him.

As long as people keep showing up, the bottom line will be met. It doesn't matter what you do once you get to the game, as long as they have your money, the team won't suffer financially or be more pressed to improve.

I dunno....

Playing "devil's advocate" for just a minute here:

When it comes to a player like Josh Cribbs- a big-hearted guy who leaves every ounce of himself on the field on every play-

...I could see where it might sting a little. Well-paid or not, players are human, too.

just sayin'

No it would definitely sting if in fact Browns Fans were chanting "Go Pack Go". But it was not the Browns fans that were chanting this, it was the Packer Crowd which made up 30% of the crowd.

Now if he had said that seeing 30% of the crowd dressed in Green Bay colors, then I would say to Josh, "What do you expect when the team has been awful for so long??".

I'm not so sure about the "not showing up" deal. If they begin to suffer financially, that could lead to a sale, which could in return lead to a move. That is probably a little extreme, but we all thought the Browns would never ever move from Cleveland.

Alright, back on topic......

Why does Cribbs think it was Browns fans yelling "Go Pack Go"? Couldn't he see the 1000's of Packer fans???

The easiest way to get people to stop saying "YOU SUCK!!!!"?

Stop sucking.

It really is that simple.

With the crap on the field lately, it wouldn;t surprise me to see the stadium filled with catatonic people curled up in the fetal position around halftime.

Pretty much.

Fans boo their own teams. That's the nature of sports. Competition brings out the ugly side of humanity sometimes, and when you really suck, things get really ugly.

I see nothing wrong here, no story to even report.

Fans are mad and they voice their displeasure: CHECK.

Player doesn't like to hear boo's and replies to a question about it: CHECK.

We are what we are as humans, and this response is predictable. It would be a story if either the fans or the player had an opposite response.

Yes it was Packers fans, and this isn't the first time I've seen them take over a stadium and do the go pack go chant at someone else's house.

After the Browns turned it over on downs inside the 5 in the 4th quarter you couldn't even hear a pin drop from Browns fans. There was no clapping, no booing, no nothing.

Unfortunately for Josh Cribbs, it's hard to boo selectively... there are a handful of players and coaches that don't deserve to get booed and Cribbs is one of them.... but the majority have earned it. (and I'm NOT a proponent of booing)
