Coach told players to 'check their manhood' LEEDS, Maine (AP) - A high school basketball coach was fired after telling his players at halftime to reach into their pants to "check their manhood," administrators said. Leavitt Area High School Principal Patrick Hartnett said coach Mike Remillard told the varsity boys Jan. 23 that "tonight's game was about who had the biggest (male genitalia) in town." "He then required his players to all stand up and put their hands down their pants and check their manhood," Hartnett said in the statement, which was read to school board members Thursday by Superintendent Thomas J. Hanson a day after the coach was dismissed. All but one player followed the coach's instructions, Hartnett said. The team won the game. Remillard, who was in his fourth season as varsity coach, called the pep talk "normal locker room banter from Fort Kent, Maine, to San Diego, California," but said he still should not have done it. "Was that tactic appropriate? No. And I'm paying the price for it," Remillard said. http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/6434832?MSNHPHMA

I've seen and heard a lot of things said by players and coaches in various sports on the sideline, the bench, the lockerrom, etc....and that's where they should stay unless it is dangererous or detrimental in any way.
This wasn't, and this PC society that we now live in really sucks major ass some times.

I'd have loved to have a coach like that.
This country is going to pot with all the p.c. crap that's going on.
It's getting sad, really.......Political correctness and the "if it feels good, do it" sentiments are dragging this country down. Check that, they have pulled this country down.

What a bunch of crap...
My coach in high school one year had a cartoon picture of a scrtum that he taped on the inside of our lockers with big bold letters asking "ARE YOURS BIG ENOUGH" the day before our championships.

We had a football coach, my sophomore year, who kicked one of the juniors right square in the jimmy! Kinda harsh & NOT pc, but you know what (and I may get bashed for this)..the kid flat-out DESERVED it!! That was 1984 though..BTW, the coach was released, eventually.

When I was in college my freshman year one of our seniors would stop us during a workout and make us check if he felt we weren't working hard enough... I know it's not a coach, but still worked the same way...

There is a difference between motivation and abuse. Some times, it is a fine line, but it is what it is. There is no need for that......

I'm not very politically correct, but to ask your players - at that age especially - to reach in and grab their package is over the line, IMO. I don't know if I'd want him fired, but it doesn't bother me much, either.
There are lots of ways to motivate without that kind of tactic.

BS!!!!!!! What do you mean "that age"
They are in high school....not grade school. They need to learn what it means to nut up and strive for excellence, as opposed to being a pushover. To give 110 percent and not expect a free ride.......to work for what they want. That is why this country is going to hell due to the PC [censored] and people not wanting to work!
How would you have motivated them lamp?

High schoolers - 15, 16 & 17 years old - are still kids. Would you think it's OK if a high school coach asked YOUR 15-year-old to reach down?? I know I wouldn't.
How would I have motivated them? Is this rocket science or something? Ask them to play hard, remind them of their assignments, tell 'em to have fun, and go for the throat.
Not by asking them to grab their nuts, that's for sure. Frankly, that's retarded, and a coach who asks them to do that is a neanderthal [censored]. Sorry if that offends anyone who feels opposite, but that's JMHO.

damn am I glad my coach was a 'neanderthal [censored]' What do you think would get across to a bunch of teenage guys... "play hard" "see if you have a pair?" Personally I'm not sure if I would tell them to stand up and grab them... but I still don't think he should be fired for it...

The kid didn't cost anyone his job. The bone head coach did that all on his own.

This kid probably has some sort of manliness issues. Maybe he should start wearing a skirt.....and playing soccer.
When I played high school football, coaches said a lot worse stuff than this. This kid is just a baby. Plus, I mean, at that age you still have to all shower together------so what the big deal with grabbing your jock.
This kid probably wore swim trunks in the shower or was the last one in cause he's a little priss.

Really relevant. In High School, in the locker room, dudes are walking around ass naked all the time, In any locker room of adult dude's are walking around naked. Its not a big deal---this coach says, to make sure you got a pair, big freaking deal. I guess this kid was a little boy amongst men.
