I like Russ Ball for President . . .comes from good organizations
For GM, would any of you entertain Chris Polian? Bill Polian is not going anywhere but his son Chris is allegedly a GM in the making. I have read articles that talk him up.
He is relatively young, though if you take a look at HOW the Colts draft it is very impressive.

The reason I didn't put Chris Polian on the list is that I would imagine he will become the next GM of the Colts in time. Just my personal thought.

I pimped Chris Polian before they hired the current regime. He's seen the old man sustain a good team for while.

Actually I thought his father had once said something about him stepping out and being "his own man". I like the kid.

If that's the case then I wouldn't mind giving him consideration at all. He's certainly learned from one of the best.

I wouldnt be against bringing him in as a QB Coach / OC, this game has changed alot since 2002 so I would like to see what he can do with our stable of QB's and go from there.....he obviously has experiance as a QB coach/ OC thats more than Daboll has

Wasn't Holmgren stripped of GM duties at the end in Seattle?

Correct. Due to the rigors of being both a Head Coach and a GM. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to him in either individual position, though. Definitely not both.

Im' pretty sure it said he's the HQ of the grey cup winners in the CFL after coaching for one year... pretty impressive if you ask me

For some reason I'm thinking there were complaints about his playcalling when he was here. It's so long ago that I might be wrong, but I keep thinking he wasn't the greatest. Maybe it's just because he followed Lindy Infante.

I swear I read somewhere that Chris was being looked at by Kansas prior to Pioli becoming available.
Take a look at the Indy first string on the depth chart, draft pick after draft pick after draft pick. . . . I got a link that shows how successfully teams draft and it is pretty interesting. Those organizations are where you start looking.
teams draft success by advanced nfl stats, good info
Look at the second table

And at the other end of the spectrum...the Browns.

I think he has expereince, and has been proven successfull..the fact that he went into the CFL with ZERO HC expereince at the CFL level and turned that team into a Grey cup contender and got them to the dance speaks volumes.
I would like him as HC under a good GM, but I could live with him as OC and Assistant Head coach as well...I just would like Trestman involved in this organization again, I always liked the guy. Bernie liked the guy..he is a great offensive mind and I believe Trestman would increases our chances of developing a Qb if we got that route in the first round or fixing Brady Quinn

We should be talking President and not GM....We need someone that oversees the GM and coaching relationship so that neither one gets too big and that they work together.....Rudolph seems unwilling or unable to do so....

I would love to see a west coast style offense. West coast tree. Pretty impressive. So that makes me ok with Holmgren, Mooch, Gruden and Morhninweg. (offensive coordinator of Philly)
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

I agree randy should hire a GM then he can sort all this out. Whether its this season or in the off season ( i prefer before the season is over, with 11 picks its important to have time to prepare) if he can coexist w/ mangini great( I HOPE NOT) but if he needs to get a coach that sees eye to eye w/ him then so be it. I just hope that this team turns the corner. Like they said on WKNR w/ 11 picks in this up coming draft "if we mess these 11 picks up, it will hurt us for years". look what the past drafts have been. GARBAGE except for JT and well JT (wimbley is turning the corner w/ ryans defense and Mack the jury is out still but looks good)

I'd rather have Bernie as that President/CEO (He knows football AND business) you want who hires the GM and then works in concert with the GM and hires the coach.

I don't think I can ever remember more Browns' on the same same page as we are now.
Most people want Mangini gone. Sure there are a few who want him to stay. But they are wrong.

I don't disagree with some of the Mangini personnel moves b/c it has left us with a full war chest and 11 draft picks.
I just don't trust Mangini with the 11 picks and the full war chest. Get an experienced talent evaluator with a proven track record.
I'm also not sold on dumping Mangini until the end of the season and the only reason I would be in favor of dumping him then would be to get any of the proven coaches that became available since Mangini was hired.

Love ya Marty.....thanks for the 80's, but now it's 2009 - 10.
We need someone who dosent have a NE or Baltimore Tatu on thier behind. I dont even think this job would be right for Ozzie as much as I respect the guy. I dont always agree that we need somebody who understand this teams history, thats what us fans are for. If he has been working in the NFL he knows Cleveland Browns history enough to come in. I'd rather have a guy with good talent evaluating skills, and knows football. We fans wil show his the rest,
Win & make the Palyoffs, will show him what football means in Ohio..Win the super bowl and we will show him how loyal we are to our players & coaches.
The coach & GM & players who turn this team around will forever go down in history and will forever have a key to this city, I wonder who has the balls to try it. I'd love to for a very small yearly wage, Randy could pay for me with the money that falls on the floor thru the hole in his pants pocket.

I'd even give him part ownership just to lure him away from Pittsburgh.
You can thank him for Cowher's success, Tom Donahoe almost got him fired.

After looking at this and talking to a close friend who has been a avid fan since the 70's we both came to the same conclusion:
The best candidate to fill the role as defined by Lerner, "a serious, credible, leader" the answer is staring right at us:
Ozzie Newsome
You offer him the role as President and give him some percentage of ownership.
Ozzie will do what needs to be done. He has proven himself in every position he has been in.
Let him pick a GM and Head Coach. Let him put the whole organizational structure in place. In the first year we would have positive results. In 3 years we would contend.

Yep. Every game that Baltimore wins just drives the stake in deeper that one of our own is doing so well for what should be us.

My wildcard is Shanahan.
Why is it a wildcard? I'm not talking Mike Shanahan.
I'm talking KYLE Shanahan. He seems to me like he's Josh McDaniels 2.0.

I haven't kept up on Bernie through the years. Last I've heard was that lengthy article in a local Florida paper where he was trying to cut bread with a saw. Felt bad for the guy.
If Bernie is to have an organizational role, he should be sitting and watching for a number of years.

You think Lerner would be dumb enough to give up a percentage of ownership?
I sure as Hell wouldn't, not for the privilege of just being able to hire a guy.
I'm not giving up control of my team for anyone. You can bet that's what Lerner would say as well.

How bout Holmgren for GM and Butch Davis as coach. 1. Cowher aint comin here. Folks might as well accept it. He is to loyal to his long history with the Steelers. And for good reason. And most coaches seem to want change after time off. Meaning no more AFC North.
2. Shanahan, again doubt it. To much work here to do, and there will be better teams that will offer him the same money.
3. Holmgren is one of the few coaches I would want who actually seems as if he relishes the challenge of coaching, managing up a bad team. Personally I think he is the guy we need.
4. I hate Gruden, and he is another guy who doesnt know how to handle QBs
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...
