Congrats. Word of advice from one esquire to another. If you're an attorney for the money, you'll hate the job. If you're an attorney because you want to help people, because you like to solve others problems when they don't know how, because you don't like to see people taking advantage of others, then you'll love the job.
This can be a bitter job because we are dealing with angry frustrated people. Remember your job is to help ease that frustration, not to win at all costs. Our job is to create justice, not give out free rides. Our job truely is SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE. To that extent, I would tell you to take one or two pro bono cases per year. The gratitude you feel in your heart will help you in this job.

Nice advice,...would hold true in near any profession,...wish the same could be said about ballplayers (any kind). Anyhow,...the third baseman on my softball team just sent the text this morning, he passed too. I have nicknames for everyone on the team, used to call him "Lawyer" -- I think I should I call him "Esquire" now,.... Good luck, success, and wishes, to all that achieve their goals.

Congrats... Word of advice, make sure your staff gets you your mail on time... PepsiCo Ordered To Pay $1.26B After Misplacing Letter - Report
Oct 28, 2009 22:53:25 (ET)
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES A Wisconsin judge has ordered PepsiCo Inc (PEP) to pay $1.26 billion to two men who said it stole their idea to sell purified water to develop Aquafina, Reuters reported Wednesday.
Charles Joyce and James Voigt won the Sept. 30 default judgment after PepsiCo didn't respond to their complaint filed April 28 against the drinks maker and two distributors, the report said, citing filings with the Jefferson County Circuit Court.
PepsiCo filed a motion on Oct. 13 asking the court not to enforce the judgment, the report said.
The company said a secretary had set aside a letter sent Sept. 18 to the legal department about the case because she was busy preparing for a board meeting.
The legal department finally acted on the complaint when it received a copy of the plaintiff's motion for the default judgment Oct. 5, PepsiCo said, according to the report. web page

One piece of advice for the new lawyer (at least from my own personal experience):
There are a LOT of people out there who, when they find out you're a lawyer, will try their best to pull one over on you and prove they are smarter than you.
When people go to a doctor, and the doctor says "you have disease x", people generally believe them. When people come to me, and I say "I don't think you have a very good case", they get mad.
When I'm at meetings, there are always non-lawyers who, after I say something, try to trip me up. It's so obvious that it becomes funny.
I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it happens a lot. So just be prepared for it.
In the end, you are going to have some extremely frustrating times. You'll go through times where you feel like you can't do anything right, or that everyone hates you. But then you'll have a victory, as small as it may be, and it builds you back up completely.
And, another piece of advice that I learned from perhaps the best attorney there is (my father): INTEGRITY is everything. It would be extremely easy to tell people what they WANT to hear, and it's extremely hard to tell people what they NEED to hear. But always, always, always be honest to them and yourself.
Again, congrats. You have the power now to change the world, for good or bad.

The reason for that is the average person needs the services of an attorney 4 times in their lifetime.
1. To discuss their estate in the event of their death. 2. To settle the estate of a dead parent. 3. Their own "ooops". 4. The "oops" of a family member.
All are negative events.
Congrats, Lover!
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

He shouldn't charge much since they're both available online. I, on the other hand, will charge you the bargain basement price of $500. No, wait, $1000.
