These two quotes are the ones that stuck out at me the most.

When he says "we" who is he talking about? That's what I want to know. Is he talking about him and Mangini? Is he talking about him and Kokinis? Is he talking about him and Kosar?

Also, when he says he wants as many credible people as possible, doesn't that mean the people that are around aren't credible? Or are only a little credible?

If Lerner is serious then this is what he should do.

Hire a team president. Like Parcells is in Miami. My choice would be Mike Holmgren. Let him make the decisions. If this person says Mangini needs to go, Mangini goes. If this person says Kokinis goes, Kokinis goes. If Mangini tries to pull a power play, he is fired on the spot.

Hopefully Lerner is serious. Hopefully.

Not ahead of anything..Lerner wants to get someone in as President to oversee everything.... a football guy..logic dictates that when that happens and it will this guy will firmly state if Genuis is here or not.

heard on DC talk radio that Holmgren was quoted as saying he wanted to move to the east coast for his next job. Is Cleveland east enough? The speculation is Redskins,of course.

but if I was a coach,GM or exec I would rather work for Lerner than Snyder any day.
If you think we have it bad, just look to DC.

Anyone that gets that gig would be saddled with a Nazi owner, an old team, a GM that gets free agents b/c he knows nothing about drafting, a high payroll and few draft picks.

I agree. Lerner isn't going to attach any conditions on who coaches the team.

Lerner appears to be probably the least confrontational owner in the league. It's about time we use his demeanor to our advantage.

I agree..he really is the perfect owner..he has deep pockets and will sit back and let you do your job..the key is getting the job done..maybe he will finally do things right and hire a President of Football Operations..let him evaluate the situation and make the changes necessary.

That could have been most any receiver, but certainly not the defensive back.

What is now happening is a repeat of RL's hasty decision..if he had stuck to his guns and hired a a guy to oversee the operations this would not have happened...he still could have had a experienced coach but one who would have had to answer to higher up..instead he gave the power to Mangini..unwittenly like he did Botch..

And RL thought Kokopuffs was going to have a more pronounced role..instead Genuis just engulfed him..and we don't hear or see Kokopuffs..
RL is now seeing the ultimate embarrasment on top of the Brownout threat..don't think for a second he's not ticked at himself for this..he's just as ticked off at Genuis for this mess also.

Bottom line is the Browns should have traded Edwards/k2 but they also should have brought in some better talent to insert in their places..
They didn't and thats got the man ticked..the offense has looked worse than I have ever seen it.
9 years and the D still is bad..9 years Peen..

Only problem I see with Holmgren, is he wants to run the whole show too.
He wants to be GM and coach.
I hope that the Browns do NOT go that route.
I want a system of checks and balances in place where more than one person are making personnel decisions.
You need someone strong enough to tell the coach that this won't work, you need a coach strong enough to listen and try to explain why it will.
As the old saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
I don't Mangenius' ego will allow anyone else to make a decision.
He has to go before this franchise will move forward I am certain of that.
I just hope that whoever comes in as Prez has the balls to do what Lerner hasn't and clean house, bring in the right people and get moving forward.
Now is the time while evaluations can be made on the players before the endo fo the year.

It's hard to tell what Kokinis does.....but this isn't the time of the year you hear much from GM's, though it is a bit backwards with Gini holding the cards.

I don't mind a set-up like we had with Butch, but I do find the current set-up a bit bizarre. Why even have the guy??

Maybe he will step to the front as the off season swings in to gear...last year might not be the best gauge.

I think we will hire a McKay or someone who has been through all of this and will lay down the law.

I think you may be right.. I'm just concerned that this off season, with our picks and cap space... it's a bigger gamble than just "giving him one more year to figure it out"....

“I want those guys to see me,” Lerner said.

He waited right there and glared at the players and coaches again as they came out of the locker room and took the field for the second half.

The owner was clearly fuming, as visibly irate as he’s been since he took over ownership of the club when his father, Al Lerner, passed away on Oct. 23, 2002.

“I’m tired of this (stuff)!” he said.

Later, he confided to an associate of the team, “This is terrible.”

“So what do you do?” the associate asked.

Lerner replied, “I don’t know.”

Better late then never

I doubt any player was intimidated by Lerners "glare".

Of course he dont know what hes going to do. He dont know much about football. Maybe he can ask Accorsi again what to do because any decision Lerner has made has been crap and I have never seen such crap in a front office. At least his dad made all the right decisions for him so his inheritance will keep him rich for life, because I dont think he could make it on his own. You can argue that all you want but its my opinion and you cant change it.

LOL!!!!
I don't care what anyone says, the Revolt planned for Monday night definitely got Lerner's attention and this poor showing yet again in Chicago might just be the straw that broke the camel's back. Lerner might finally get it that Browns fans just don't have the patience for tearing things apart and rebuilding.

Exactly, my question is "WHAT TOOK SO LONG?"

Lerner put a team in place to ask the fans what are they not liking and what would they like to see changed. Sounds like he dont know what hes doing. If he wasnt recieving so much criticism he would still not be seen at games. At least he likes Chicagos culture to come to a game in thier stadium. What, you still cant step foot in Cleveland. You dont have anything to be afraid of, that was Modell getting death threats.

Just clicking... sort of

some of you guys crack me up,, Really!

First he should sell the team because he doesn't care cause he's too wrapped up in Aston Villa.. then it's, let's join the protest on Monday night.

Now, he's had enough and says so, and what do you suppose people are saying.. Ha ha... read the posts above this one and you will see..

It's just flat out to crazy for me to repeat...

I get the feeling there are folks on here that would find fault and look for conspiracy issues after we win a Superbowl...

I agree ... I think the fact that he's clearly seething about the current performance being exhibited, blows the whole "he doesn't care about the team" myth out of the water.

And the fact that he has a highly successful Soccer team/front office working in England blows the whole, "he can't run a business" myth out of the water too.

Could it possibly be that he just hasn't been very lucky with some of his hires (which he DOES receive plenty of advice about from outside sources, it's not like he's going full-on "Al Davis" here.) ... and the fact that we blow things up every 3 years at the fans calling probably doesn't help matters much either.

Sorry, I gotta throw the BS flag on one of these 2 statements. If he's letting the fans call the shots (which I do not believe) then he's not the business genius you'd like us to think he is. You can't have it both ways.

Hold ON Excel,
Even though I have not commented above on Randy's recent revelation, I still stand behind the fact that he really does not know what he is doing when it comes to football. Now I cannot explain why he has a decent run soccer team. Maybe he hired/kept the soccer people that really knew something and stayed out of their way.

But with the Browns, he has been inept! He has got from hiring the old SFO group that didn't work well together, could not coach -> to the dictator(Davis), to letting Savage and Crennel but Savage tried to run everything -> to another dictator( Mangini). In all these different combos, you had people who really new at their jobs. Savage did not have that position before and he had Newsome to veto or grant his recommendations. Each coach had never been a head coach, hired new o-coords and other than palmer were defensive minded. You would think that after looking at all of the winning structures before, he would have KNOWN to go with a Football Ops President, who hires a GM, who hires a Coach.

BUT NO, Lerner screwed it up again!! He hires a coach( who was just fired), who hires his own GM. Now both are the faces of the franchise( really Mangini) that have no check or balance. SO now, he lets Mangini bring 25 players from his old team that are really not that hot, are moreso special teams players and with the rest of the players, he alienates in some way or fashion. Think about it, of all the players that are any good, Mangini had nothing to do with!!!!

So after 8 games, it has occurred to Lerner that the Browns are going backwards! I was stating this after the last preseason game. But then again, I do not own the team. So maybe we can ask Lerner, what the hell was he looking at all this time??

It is a good point only if you think the NFL is a standard business. It isn't and the fans aren't calling the shots. That's just ludicrous.

If that were the case do you really think Jamarcus Russell would be starting in Oakland? Do you think the fans can tell Daniel Snyder anything? Or Mangini would have been hired here in the first place?

Nope, the owners listen to the fans about everything but the good ones don't base franchise changing decisions on the fan's whims.

I personally find it humerous that two years ago, perhaps even earlier I stated this franchise and the front office was a total wreck and that this team would NEVER be any good until it hired a strong CEO to run this thing for Lerner

Go back and look I WAS THE FIRST person to state this team needed a CEO/President to run this organization, and people like Ammo, Toad, and others ridiculed me and stated I didn't know what I was talking about.

I stated it starts at the top...I was angry at Lerner too, but to be honest with you, the only mistake he has made is failing to hire a strong CEO/President to run this organization on his behalf.

We now as a team will finally begin to make some progress, finally some of you have gotten it pounded into your head that this team will never amount to jack without a qualified CEO/President to run this ship. I am happy Randy finally understand this.

Hire the CEO/President, let him come in and clean house, and start over.

Yes we need a total reset here in order to take a step forward next year.

I just pray that Randy will follow though on hiring a competent CEO/President to fix and run this mess of an organization, I am just glad that finally some of you are beginning to see what I saw over two years ago perhaps even earlier...

He hired Savage and Romeo and Mangini and Kokinis.

He made mistakes, but hindsight is 20/20. At the time Savage and Crennel were very highly regarded, but they did not work out.

The Mangini hire does look like it was a mistake caused by Randy being overeager to get a coach with Experience. It just looks like he chose the wrong coach.

To me it looks like Randy made one really bad move, but he could be rectifying that position shortly.

I think that he does learn from the past.

I don't think it's a suprise,, I don't believe many folks thought he really understood football.. In fact many times Ive heard it said the at best, he's just a fan..

As for why AV is doing well, he hit it on the nose the first time out.. That's just pure luck.

Now, go back and look at his first ever hire.. John Collins.. He was mistake as it turns out,, his second hire was also,, Phil Savage and his third hire wasn't any better.. RAC.

But here's the thing,, all three guys should have been successful based on thier upbringing and experience in the league.

Collins was a successful Business and marketing guy for the League.. Savage started out working for what arguably is one of the most successful coaches in the league in Belichick and he also had great experience under Ozzie Newsome in Baltimore.

RAC was with Parsells and Belichick, he's coached various positions including being the DC for 3 Superbowl winners..

You can say Lerner screwed up on hiring them now, but that's hindsight,, by all rights, they should have succeeded,.

Now this mess with Mangini and Kokinis,, that's a horse of a different color.. Plenty has been reported as to how that came down and some of it isn't very flattering to Lerner..

But then again, it's easy to assess things in Hindsight and it's easy for someone on these boards or like Grossi in the Media to say he should have done this, or he should have done that..

Bottom line, Kokinis was probably ready to take a step up to GM.. and if you just look at the job that Mangini did in NY, overall, he was decent.

So again, with these two guys, there was reason to believe that success could be found..

So if you must look at it on paper, he's really done nothing so outragiously wrong.. it just didn't work. And there is no guarantee that if he hires someone like Cowher or Shanahan, that we will find success.. None.

At best, just like the draft, it's a crapshoot.

Ammo, Ammo, Ammo

The President IS NOT a football guy

the GM is the Football guy

The President has "some" football background, but the Presidents primary background should be:

1. Business Management
2. Organization
3. Human Resources
4. Management Structure

Look no farther than the Owner of the Seattle Seawhawks...Paul Allen Former CEO of Microsoft...turned the Seahawks from laughing stocks to Super Bowl Contenders in 3 years.

Who hired the Gm out there in Seatle?...Paul Allen

Who hired a Competent President out there in Seattle? Paul Allen

who hired Mike Holmgren? Paul Allen

Oh yeah Paul Allen was a "know nothing business suit" who can't run a football team..right?

Look where have these "football guys" Dwight Clark, Pete Garcia, Phil Savage, and Koke gotta us Ammo? huh? the worst team in the NFL

A Business CEO is the BEST CHOICE FOR MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES FOR THIS ORGANIZATION

The CEO will hire THE BEST GM thats the point...good CEO's listen to their advisors, the CEO job is picking the right guy...look at Paul Allen you greatly underestimate this fact quite badly.

As for Attack Dawg, please man...I wanted a CEO as far back as 1993 to reign in idiot Art Model...before the Internet had even gone main stream...

Inept or unlucky? You act like there is an obvious solution, but there is not. Randy was not in charge during the first hiring, and maybe only had a partial say in the Butch Davis hire.

Well, if you are hiring a NEW person, chances are they are either going to be A) NEW to the position, or B) EXPERIENCED but available only because they failed at the job the last time. The "experienced" guys who are successful, tend to stay employed.

And you talk about successful, winning structures ... New England's system is based on Bellicheck running the show with a lapdog GM, and no substantial GM calling the shots over them. (See Butch and Mangini) Baltimore's system is based on Ozzie running the show as a GM, with a coach beneath him, and no substantial Pres calling the shots above them (See Savage/Crennel). These were the two systems Lerner tried to model ... he just couldn't get the guys to pull it off.

And there's no guarantee that hiring one guy over the other is going to work. A bunch of people wanted Pioli as a GM here running the show, and now he's at KC doing a worse job there than what we have here.

So after 8 games, it has occurred to Lerner that the Browns are going backwards! I was stating this after the last preseason game. But then again, I do not own the team. So maybe we can ask Lerner, what the hell was he looking at all this time??

LOL, you seriously wanted him to can a new coach before the season even started??

You're late to the party you threw for yourself..this was stated after Palmer/Clarke/Lerner were gone..like 7 years ago.

Art Was a Dolt..I wanted a CEO back then...it took the Biscotti's who know what a Strong Team President and hiring the right people, and keep Modell garbage hands out of it to produce a real winner...

Randy Lerner has been one of the most successful businessmen in the World and is a Billionaire.

Are you really telling me that he is not a smart enough businessman and needs to hire someone to run the business for him? Because the Cleveland Browns are one of the best run businesses in the World and is a billion dollar company.

Methinks he doesn't need a traditional business man more than he needs someone who knows how to evaluate talent properly and place a good team on the field.

you had a good run Hank.
