So now that Hickerson is rightfully enshrined in the Hall of Fame, are there any other former Browns who should get in?

While he played before my time, I've read and heard enough about Gary Collins to think he deserves the honor. He was a great receiver and a great punter. Most old school players will tell you that he was the guy who made the post pattern what it is today. His stats (I know, Diam - stats . . .) are comparable to other players from his era who are in - guys like Raymond Berry. Collins is my choice. How about the rest of you?

Speaking strictly about Browns players, the next closest one would be Clay or Bernie, right?

I would think Clay could get in, but as much as I loved Bernie, I don't see it happening.

I compared Collins to Ray Berry and Lynn Swann.

Collins: 339 catches, 5,299 yds, 70 TD, and a career punting avg. of 41.0
Berry: 631 catches, 9,275 yds, 68TD
Swann: 336 catches, 5,462 yds, 51 TD

If Swann's in, Collins deserves to start getting some publicity to the same effect.

It's always hard to pick whom should be next, many times I know i see thru the Browns colored glasses, Clay, was solid, week in and week out, but he wont get in, he didnt have the stats, didnt reinvent the position, was never on a championship team, all Clay did was line up every Sunday and give it all he had for 17 years, play after play after play.

Collins, Bernie, others were great in our eyes, but there all missing a Championship on thier resumes, which might hold many back,

Collins seems like a solid prospect for entry... Bernie, as much as I love him, didn't have the career that would be worthy of enshrinement. Had he not had arm/elbow problems, he might have put up the stats to have a chance.
Don't know about Matthews... starts aren't everything but do his numbers (and his rep) stand up against other linebackers in Canton?

Collins caught three TDs in the 1964 championship game against the Colts.

I think Matthews' longevitiy will get him in one of these days.

Dick Schafrath stepped in at left tackle for Lou Groza in 1960 and the team's offense never missed a beat. Schafrath manned the left tackle position for 12 seasons, playing a key role in the success of Hall of Fame running backs Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly and quarterback Frank Ryan. Schafrath was recognized as one of the game's elite offensive tackles throughout the 1960s, earning Pro Bowl nominations in six consecutive seasons (1964-69). The Browns selected Schafrath in the second round of the 1959 NFL Draft. Schafrath was a member of Cleveland's 1964 NFL Championship team.

Jim Brown has stated that Dick should be the next, in HHO.

Here's link to thread I started yesterday.

I'm bias and I admit it. THose that I want in the hall of Fame from the Browns may not necessarly meet all the criteria for election into the hall;;

Clay Matthews: I want him there but the truth is, I'm not sure he should be.

Bernie Kosar: Same as Clay

Doug Dieken: Solid guy, perhaps as good as anyone to play LT, but I bet he never makes it.

Dick Schafrath (sp): This is one guy that probably should already be in the HOF

That's just off the top of my head,,,,,

But to answer your question, the next Brown should be Schafrath.. JMO however

Now that Hickerson's in, Schafrath could begin to get more consideration.

Wow, so the team has at least a few times in its history addressed the OL in the early rounds!

To be honest, I don't think we have any others that hit me right off. The deal with Schrath is lines usually only get one guy....Collins.....long shot....any others??? Longer.

I have a feeling we might not see another "Brown" go in for another 20 years or more unless you count Modell....but I know most don't.

I don't know how many kickers are in the hall.....but it isn't many. I doubt Bahr is one of them....heck...IMO Cockroft was better than him.

Darden was a solid player.....in ways like Matthews....but IMO not HOF material.... a very solid player just a notch below great.

Those guys are great to us as Browns fans, but if you asked non-Browns fans, they would hardly be remembered.

Well if you're gonna do OLineman in that vein and timeframe, I'd have to go for Paul Farren---he did more with less physical talent---at all 3 positions--- than anybody in VERY recent memory,....

Doug Dieken or Clay Matthews

Dieken was a good lineman, but it also helps because he was a blocker for Brian Sipe, Greg Pruitt, Mike Pruitt......
