There isn't a coach in the history of the league that could have turned this bunch around in one year.
Define "turned around"...
We went from bad to worse (as in THE WORST)... some will say that was necessary, I'm not so sure it was necessary for us to step back nearly as far as we did...
I'm fairly confidant in my OPINION.. ... that there are other guys out there who could have gotten this team headed in the right direction without first making it the laughing stock of the entire NFL.
In a league of 32 teams, the best team and the worst team are outliers. They are extreme cases. It takes some serious skill to be #1. It takes some serious skill (or lack thereof) to be #32. It's like your home being hit by a tornado in the middle of a hurricane while an earthquake is occurring. When you're #32, there are some serious, serious issues. You can take a step back in talent and still not be #32. The issues run very, very deep. It's the only explanation for being 32 out of 32. Poor player acquisition, poor preparation, poor playcalling, poor execution, lack of confidence, lack of morale, etc., etc., etc., ... it's like the perfect storm. That's how you get to #32 ... the worst of the worst ... the extreme.
Mangini has to go. It will never get better with him. Never. You are seriously flawed as a coach when you field a team of professionals and continue to get pummeled week in and week out. You have created an environment of the perfect storm. That's just not acceptable at any time anywhere and is a direct indictment on the type of coach he is. Anyone who thinks there is a snowball's chance in hell that Mangini can turn this thing around is deluding themselves.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

This is what I keep coming back to. If Kokinis had it in his contract that he had final say over the roster, and Mangini basically took that from him, the question is why would Kokinis allow it to happen?
Because there was little he could do. Mangini had Lerner's ear. What's the point of a power struggle if it's clear from the getgo that you'll be at the losing end? The real question, in my mind, is why Kokinis signed this contract to begin with. It was clear from day 1 that any final say clause would be strictly on paper only.

Yo, OverToad! You hit on a part i agree with, and it is my particular axe to grind with the logic-challenged I come into contact with. So with one in each hand, these are two rampant mistakes. First, new stuff, the result of changing, is presumed by the changer(s) to be automatically and ind inherently superior and beyond question or review. As a side note, I am one whp places a premium on tradition and heritage and history; these often get thrown out regardless of their popularity, and appeal to the masses. They cannot be replaced quickly; there are no shortcuts to the "new" tradition. The second is politics and Browns FO, and seemingly much of an insane world: Making someone else wrong does not you right. Undermining their position(s) does not strengthen your argument or make your arguments saner or truer, or superior. It remains weak or streong just as before. This is worsened when you add the "crystal ball" opinions as proof or factual when it is everything but that. This will lead to higher taxes, greater unemployment, more taxes, unmanageable fiscal details, etc. Critics are legless men who teach running. Just because you can gut a kill doesn't make you the hunter. I prefer the Japanese business approach: "Don't fix blame; fix problems. Amen, Lerner & Co., Ltd. Amen to that.

Koko lost and Lerner picked Mangini's rebuilding plan.
Mangini picked Kokinis.. don't you think Mangini would have made sure they were sort of on the same page before he did that?

Koko is at fault because he didn't act like the team player he should of and got canned. Maybe you know, try and play by the franchise's goals.
Implosion is only a goal in construction, not so much in the NFL.
