I dont know how these threads start but tonight is a good game to watch that will have a few positions of need in the draft. Rutgers has WR Tim Brown and CB Devan McCourty. USF has DE/OLB George Selvie who Ive watched before and was impressed with and USF also has a top 10 senior CB and Safety. I havnt seen them stand out yet but Ive seen them ranked in top at their positions on draft sites.
Last night was Toledo vs C. Michigan. Safety Barry Churh had a quite game because the offense led by Lefevour played away from him the whole game. Toledo basicly made a new position for him they call the STAR position which basiclly allows him to freelance all game. He covered WRs, played as a LB while the other 2 Safeties got burnt all day. They were playing Church closer to the line to spy on Lefevour. Lefevour is a good athlete for a QB and a decent arm. The DB werent challanging him much so I dont know if he can thread a needle. Has nice touch and didnt see him bullet the ball in there. If the Browns trade a QB and decide to start the season with the other of DA and Quinn, I wouldnt oppose to taking Lefevour in the 5th round on. Ill watch for him to see where he is projected. He also had a good WR that burnt everyone not named Church but he was a junior and probley coming back to college.

the critics can shut their mouths this year....the Big10 has a championship game and it will be decided on the field.
really, the only time I miss having a separate champ game is if there is a tie at the top and the 2 teams have not played. other than that, I think the champ game is a meaningless money grab by the conferences.

What if OSU beats Penn State, Penn State beats Iowa, and Iowa beats Ohio State? and that is each teams only conference loss?... then what?

ask the Big XII South last year if having a champ game helps that situation

No they don't.
You still need to add another team and have a championship game.

Just because it worked out one year, you don't think you need a conference championship game? What if the Big Ten was like the SEC this year ( ).... But what if? Alabama and Florida are 1-2. No conference title game, and they both go undefeated without playing each other. Is that your national title game? If it is, you'll have all kinds of complaints about 2 teams from the same conference playing for the title. If it's not, you'll have all kinds of complaints that one of the top 2 teams are getting left out simply because they play in the same conference. Man up. Add another team. Play a conference title game.

I think the Big 10 wants a title game.....there's money there to be had. And when there's money to be had, college presidents will find a way to get it. To have a title game, they need a 12th team. Here's the catch, I don't think they can get the 12th team they want. Notre Dame.
So who else is out there? Pitt?

as I said, the situation where the 2 teams don't play is the ONLY time I miss the champ game.
playing another game is not needed in 9/10 years. and it does NOT solve a 3-way 1 loss tie that you brought up earlier (at least 1 team gets left out....possibly 2 as was with the BigXII south last year).
the regular season is the playoff....which is why I think the Pac10 has the best setup (everyone plays everyone...no pretend "champ" game)
another scenario that can happen which is silly:
if LSU beat Bama then beat UF in the SEC-champ game.....LSU wins the SEC despite UF and LSU both having 1-loss to each other. and UF would have beat LSU in LA, while LSU beats UF on a nuetral field. That's fair

When you're in the shape that the Big Ten is in right now (And even if you are a Big Ten fan, you cannot deny the fact that they're in bad shape), you have to do something to get some respectablility back. You have to add someone. Even if it's not the team you want.
Unfortunately for you, it's going to be hard to had a Big East team like Pitt because of basketball. So if you're looking at someone who would benefit by moving to the Big Ten, you need to look at a team like Cincinnati.

only if you want to ignore the strict academic and research requirements that the big10 schools have.
and say what you will about the athletes, but the conference presidents require that and it has been the biggest sticking point at adding another team
that is why Notre Dame has made the most sense for the big10 (obviously, its not in their best interests though).
I'm not sure about Pitt....but UC is way below the big10's standards not just in overall ranking, but in the other academic avenues they demand.

Pitt is #56….so they may very well fit the bill if they wanted to jump. Not sure on the research avenues they have and all the other thing the presidents look at, but it is a good start. I also know that Rutgers (#66) has been mentioned quite a few times in the past as the most logical team to join the big10 (NJ recruiting, NYC media market). #12 Northwestern #27 Michigan #39 Illinois #39 Wisconsin #47 Penn State #53 Ohio State #61 Purdue #61 Minnesota #71 Indiana #71 Michigan State #71 Iowa Kentucky is ranked #128 in case you were wondering….tied with LSU and Arkansas….and are the lowest ranked schools that US News does (all other schools considered Tier3 or Tier4 schools due to their low scores) University of Cincinatti is a Tier3 school ranked about equally with Kent State University (technically, KSU is ranked higher) http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/national-universities-rankings/state+OH

Rutgers is another team I was going to mention... Looks like they'd be a good fit. And, they'd benefit from the move to the Big Ten, IMO.

Games that interest me because I like watching the Big East the past few years and for prospects are
Notre Dame at Pittsburgh- I want to watch Clausen and Tate. I was watching Notre Dame vs Navy 2007 and Tate can also run the Wildcat. Tate has good hands, a playmaker, a good route runner and versatile. Id rather the Browns not use a 1st pick on a QB but I think Clausen is a little better than Quinn in college. I hear Pitt has a good TE.
West Virginia at Cincy- I want to see more of Pike. they will find him some playing time this game and hope he can start next game. He does look like DA but with more touch to the ball. Cincy also has a good WR.
Iowa at OSU- Ohio St fan. I like watching Gibson and Coleman. Big Ten Championship.
as far as the USF vs Rutgers game last night Selvie wasnt double and triple teamed like most of the time. Junior LT Anthony Davis did a good job on him one on one. Selvie couldnt over power him as a down lineman and needed to use his speed. Something he can do as an OLB. He also did a decent job in coverage so he has experiance in coverage as a down lineman. One thing that concerned me was that he got tired and replaced late in the second quarter. If davis comes out this year I wouldnt mind a second pick on him and move him to RT for the time being. He didnt have to be a mauler but he is good in pass protection and handled Selvie one on one. God forbid if Thomas goes down, they need someone to switch over to his position.
The other DE that could play 3-4 OLB is junior college transfer Pierre-???. He is Kipers 13th ranked prospect as a junior. If he comes out this year I would take him over Selvie.
Rutgers had a good CB in McCourty. He could also back up Cribbs in the return game which would mean bye-bye Lawson. He would take over McDonalds spot sometime in the first year and McCourty is a good tackler. If they dont take him in the 2nd round he could be gone by the 3rd. I doubt they use a high 2nd on him but I wouldnt be disappointed if they did and they have done worse in the 2nd round in the past.
USF also has a decent Safety in Allen. A playmaker and a hard hitter. Deep draft in safeties and I wouldnt mind the Browns taking 2 out of 3 of Berry (1st round) and Church (Toledo) and Allen. One of the latter in the 2nd round. If both are available in the early 3rd, the Browns could go in a differant direction and take one of these two with the 2 latter 3rd round picks.

Thanks for adding the UK/Vandy game in there lol. I would not be surprised AT ALL if we lose to Vandy. We should win, but we also should have beat Mississippi State, and look how that turned out lol.
We looked awful against EKU, too. I don't like Morgan Newton. Hopefully Ryan Mossokowski comes in and starts next year (4 star QB from last year who was redshirted, medically I think, this year).

I agree they would benefit.
and just to pile-on the academic rankings....i was actually pretty shocked that the Miss schools were Tier3....didn't think any BCS schools were unranked....so good news, Kentucky isn't at the bottom of the SEC schools in this ranking:
#17 Vanderbilt (which of these schools is unlike the others, which of these schools just doesn’t belong) #47 Florida #58 Georgia #88 Auburn #96 Alabama #106 Tennessee #110 South Carolina #128 Kentucky #128 LSU #128 Arkansas Tier3 Mississippi State Tier3 Ole Miss

I did not help. But All three teams were in the same division. I could diffuse the situation given all three teams were in sepereate divisions.

Know there are plenty of Buckeyes on here (and that this is a week early).... but did anyone catch the leak of the jerseys they are wearing against UM?! A little odd to say the least. OSU "throwback" jerseys...

I like the FSU helmets, not big on the uniforms though.
I think OSU and LSU are the worst.
I REALLY like TCU, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
I think TCU might be my favorite.

Better make it 4 rounds and let everybody in....then start the full 64 team tournamnet for the NC....If we play our cards right we can run this thing right into the start of baseball!

The frog scale pants are a big much for me. I like Texas...Not much changed really.
Anybody else only have VT and TCU showing and the rest say coming soon. I have only seen Texas, tOSU, TCU, FSU, and VT up to now. I don't care for most of them. I like tOSU, but don't like the helmet.

I just don't get Nike's whole bastardization process of the college uniform.
Schools like Texas, OSU, Oklahoma (and to a lesser extent Florida, FSU and Miami) don't need gimmicky uniforms. What makes them great is their history and tradition, not some ridiculous "modern" jersey.
I've heard this is why Michigan left Nike. Apparently Michigan wanted 'final consent' on all jersey designs and Nike wouldn't give it to them.......after seeing some of these, I'm glad they decided to bolt. The thought of UM rolling out in something like this, against their biggest rival no less, would not make me too happy. Call me old school I guess.
I think it makes sense for a school like TCU, which is more of an "up and coming" program or "Oregon", which is Phil Knights baby but schools that have consistently been winning for long periods of time need to just leave the uniforms alone.

Not just you Nas, but I just feel like too much emphasis is put on "tradition of the uniforms"... The tradition is in your school, and your program. Not the uniforms.
Kids want to wear the "cool uniforms". I have a buddy going to Missouri for football next year, and as soon as these uniforms came out, he texted me like "Man, have you seen out sweet new uniforms?"
Just like with the Browns... So many fans don't want to ever see a change in our uniforms. My question is, why not? I don't care if we wear pink jersey's with purple pants, and a lime green helmet, as long as we win.

i agree.
fans whining about teams changing small stuff on the jersey because they are messing with tradition are the same dorks who whine about some small detail being wrong in a star trek movie

Mark May is a dolt. He's basically comparing Iowa's freshmen QB to Matt Barkley. His logic is that he threw 93 TDs in high school but he was 9/27 passing in his first game!

Maybe so, but where my small heart is involved, that's all that matters.

pretty much, i don't bother with the on/off bandwagon thing. i'm in it for good with the browns. i love all these people that blog or call in on radio shows and say they're done. the day the browns turn it around they'll be back claiming they were always behind them.
i still get excited for every game. it's frustrating, but i think eventually we will see some progress.

Just being open and honest...I love my wife, and would fight hard for her honor. I would die for my children, no questions asked, and have 2 people I consider friends for life.
That's it....and do we really need more??
The Browns and Gators I will always support no matter what. I don't care if they go on a 3 decades long winless streak.
