The Ravens are sure crying over Quinn's hit on Suggs...
You don't hear Cribbs crying over getting clocked or the Browns complaining about that hit on Cribbs.
You can check out the thread about the BQ hit on Suggs in the Rats vs Browns game forum and clearly, the Rats are attempting to psych themselves up by overplaying Quinn's hit.
Maybe Mangini should consider playing Quinn at safety...since he's such a devastating tackler.
I will say it again. If they don't want anyone knocking down their linebackers they should make them wear a dress.

Honestly Toad,,, I don't feel like reading this entire thread to see if I can gleen just one opinion from you on the whole Quinn debate..
I'm just asking .. But, If quinn suddenly had a running attack that opposing defenses respected, a line that was adequate and receivers that could catch..
Do you think he could be a QB that could lead a team to a SB win?
Lots of Ifs there. I know,, but within that context, do you think he could be the guy?
*Note, I didn't say a Running attack that was FEARED, a line that was SUPERB and receivers that are PRO-BOWL caliber..
Trent Dilfer won with a feared RB, a Decent line, weak receivers but a dominent Defense......

In my opinion, Teams just stack the line of scrimmage against us now that there is no outside threat. We won't be able to run the ball against that with D.A. or Quinn in there. Perfect example was the Green Bay and Chicago games in which D.A started. They played the entire game with eight in the box and played bump and run man coverage on Momass and Robiskie. The receivers just couldnt beat the man coverage. Now compound that with Quinn's inability to throw past ten yards and teams can just sit on the short routes. Baltimore's secondary didn't drop at the snap at all on Monday. The whole game they played inside the sticks. Watching Quinn play is eerily similar to watching Frye. Teams will gives us the deep out knowing he can't get the ball there. There is a reason 21 teams passed on him. Including Miami who was in dire need of a QB. They took Ginn and I believe Henne in the second round.

Miami took John Beck in the second, saying they felt he was every bit as good as Quinn was.

NRTU...
Figured I'd put this here as I didn't see much, if any discussion, about these two items that really irked me during the Ravens game.
*Why run a no huddle to only snap the ball with 2 seconds or 1 second left on the clock each time?
*Why go with a hard count, draw the defense offsides several times, then not take the free play when the Ravens jumped ... which they did several times? I don't think that's on BQ but Mack ... why even go with the hard count then?
Two more things that I thought made our offense look like it was amateur hour out there.

Don't confuse the no huddle with the hurry up. Indy is a great example of this as they often use the no huddle so the other team cannot substitute players in and out and so Manning can call a play based on how the defense lines up.
However, with our two QBs I don't see the no huddle helping us very much.

Great point. I think that went right over my head.
I was thinking in terms of speeding up the game, keeping the D off balance ... not sure why we would want to do that ... speed up the game, that is.

I agree. There were a couple of times.
My wife said "oh, they were offsides, why didn't they call it?"
I responded that it was because ball was not snapped when they were off sides, and they didn't hit anyone.
And I too blamed Mack. Told my wife he's a rookie. Probably has a lot going on in his head calling the assignments......dunno.

There isn't any value at trading him at this point. Adam Schefter recently reported that before the draft Denver was offering us a 1st day pick. They had three second round picks so one would have to assume it was one of those.
Considering how things have worked out, it would have been a steal.

Despite what Toad says (and I'm not saying he's wrong) I'm sure there is some ego driven HC out there in need of a QB that thinks he can turn Quinn into a winner.. You brought up denver.. as you can see, they are starting to flounder a little now.. perhaps McDaniels will still think enough of Quinn to give us something. I get the feeling that someone will say,, the Browns are horrible and no QB could win on that team.. Of course if that's what turns out to be true,, then we should keep him.....

Is it totally out of the realm of possibility that Quinn has started against some of the top NFL defenses with so little talent around him that a game against the lowest rated passing defense in the NFL (Detroit) could be a break out game? I could be reaching but at this point what do we have to lose by starting him for the rest of the season and seeing if there maybe some smoke to build a fire with? Keeping in mind that this year alone QB,s like Kyle Orton, Vince Young, & Alex Smith have come back and played fairly well after a brief time of struggle. As fans we don't really have a say but we can support what we have and hope like hell it will get better with time. At least the above named QB's have more starts with better talent than Quinn has had and they continue to improve! Step back and watch the next couple of games before you hang the kid after 7 starts.
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

just clicking to add some thoughts...
In 2007, the Browns offensive line was the 4th best at protecting their QBs, giving up only 19 total sacks.
If we remove the 5 sacks that Charlie Frye had in his first and only start, the Browns offensive line was the best in the NFL at protecting their QB.
That year, Anderson was named All Pro based on his 3787 yds and 29 TD passes.
The Browns also rushed for 1895 yds in 2007.
That year, Quinn's rookie season, he held out and missed a good portion of camp, thus he never challenged for the starting job. He would have had a golden opportunity once Frye was traded, but he did not know the offense well enough, due to the holdout.
Quinn never got the opportunity to play behind that offensive line, except for one game in mop up duty, going 3-8 passing. That was Quinn's 2007 season...8 passes.
Anderson went from backup to All Pro in one year, because he had the kind of support around him that a QB needs to be successful in the NFL.
...Anderson had a running game ...he had very good receivers (TE/WR/RB) ...his offensive line gave him time to go through his progressions ...he had an Offensive coordinator and playbook that was above average.
The following year, the Browns offensive passing game fell apart, dropping from the 12th ranked Passing O in 2007...to the 31st Passing O in 2008.
Quinn got his chance in 2008, after the wheels had come off of the Browns offense. Every support category I listed above, failed to support our QBs in 2008. Quinn broke his finger in his second start, played in one more game before being replaced by Anderson. Quinn had surgery on his finger and was out the rest of 2008.
This year, with all the changes in the coaching staff and Oline (most changes for the worse) Quinn got another chance. But again, all the support categories I listed above, failed to support their QBs...mater of fact, the QB support is the worst I have seen since the Browns returned in 1999.
So, how can we judge Quinn or Anderson, based on "this" kind of support?
Sadly, the Browns still don't know what caliber of QB Quinn is. Until he gets the support needed, he and his abilities as an NFL QB are "unknown".

That's very easy for you to say, as I'm sure the organization has given you written approval to speak on their behalf.
The actions of the "Browns", which include the coaches, loudly say otherwise.
Is Quinn as bad as we've seen this year? I doubt anyone would say that, but he hasn't even remotely overcome the questions that surrounded him coming out of college. The big one............and arguably the most important thing for a QB to actually possess.........is accuracy, and at no point in his time here has he shown accuracy when making NFL throws.
Like every QB in the league, he needs help to win, but also like every QB in the league, he can be judged for the things that HE controls. To this point, the things he's controlled have resulted in decidedly inferior QB play, and no amount of excuses can change that.
Regarding keepin' him under center the rest of the year...........yeah, sure, there's really no other choice. The odds of the accuracy suddenly showing up are remote, but the team has to keep marching him out there because there's nothing else to lose.

This is just a thought. Is it to late in Quinn's carrer to get a vet qb. say a Garcia type qb. for Quinn to learn under and get his confidence back?

By the way. Does anyone else have a problem with how he holds the ball when he throws? He holds it too far up on the laces. And it ends up coming out like a duck. He needs to hold it further back and snap it off hard. I'll let others explain further but it's something I've noticed lately. He's not getting a high spin rate and it's not helping his situation right now.

Great Stuff. In the Denver game, Braylon was open the entire game. In the first half BQ was sacked zero times before they moved Dumervil to left side of the D for a favorable matchup with St. Clair in the second half. Quinn finished the first half 11-14 for 56 yards, a fumble lost and 4 yd per pass attempt. Braylon caught two passes 34 yards. That's the "good" side of BQ when he is getting the support from the line and his receiver.

toadis...I was not aware that I needed the permission of the Browns to post my opinion on DT...I will have to read my contract.
...you tipping a few?...
Anderson went from unknown to the Pro Bowl in 15 games and as much as some would like to deny that fact...you can't. But without the support I listed, it would not have happened.
Quinn has never had the support that Anderson enjoyed in 2007 and his performance in 2008 was limited to 3 starts but he only had one start where he was healthy. Quinn broke the index finger on his right hand at some point in the 2nd game he started in 2008 and tried to play with a splint in his third start but was replaced by Anderson when Quinn was ineffective. Quinn had to have surgery and his season was done.
In the one game that Quinn started in 2008, when he was 100% healthy and when his support groups performed well, Quinn showed some promise. From his Browns 2008 bio...
Game 9 vs. Denver 11/6: Made his first NFL start at QB and was 23 of 35 passing for 239 yards with 2 TDs and a 104.3 QB rating…In the 1st quarter, orchestrated a 6 play, 59 yard (3:25) drive capped by a 5 yard TD pass to TE Kellen Winslow to tie the game, 7-7, as Quinn was 2-2-23 passing on the drive…In the 2nd quarter, connected with Winslow on a 16 yard TD pass to open a 17-7 lead…Had a streak of 10 consecutive completions through the 2nd and 3rd quarters…In the 4th quarter, orchestrated a 9 play, 78 yard (4:53) drive, capped by a 1 yard TD plunge by RB Jamal Lewis to open a 30-27 lead, as Quinn was 3-4-53 passing on the drive…Completed a pass to eight different receivers…Added 1 rush for 3 yards… web page
This was only one game...but as you can see, Quinn had a good game against the Broncos in his first start in 2008. What happened to that QB?...
The Browns hired Mangini and his OC, Brian Daboll, had never been an OC at any level. Mangini destroyed all the support units a QB needs to succeed.
This coaching staff, especially on the offensive side, might be the worst offensive coaching staff in the NFL. I doubt that any QB in the NFL could overcome this coaching staff...their record speaks for itself.
...yet some believe it's all on our QBs...
I still have hope that Lerner will get this franchise headed back into the right direction by hiring some experienced management who can hire a coaching staff capable of rebuilding the support units our QBs need to succeed.
It starts with the OLine, then the WRs/TEs and RBs...then an experienced coaching staff capable of teaching...the best HC we can hire...the best OC we can hire.
There is a lot of hard work that needs to be done, to rebuild the Browns offensive unit...it might be easier to just start over again by using our 1st round draft pick next season to draft a rookie QB...
Then again, the Browns have so many needs, it might be a better move to draft some Oline help or use our 1st round pick to fill some needs on the defensive side.
Being an Oline guy...I would rather fix the Oline than spend a high draft pick on a rookie QB...but that is just me...

That's beside the point. Ok, so the donk's were pretty bad defensively. They were still an NFL defense. Quinn had never faced that before in a real game yet did a fine job on only a 3 day notice. His accuracy and decision making were fine. He was solidly in the game.
Now, under this regime, he looks like he's regressed so far he may never catch back up while he's here. And if it were only Quinn it would be easier to point to him as his own problem. But the exact same thing has happened to DA.
Something is amiss here regarding the QB's. I realize the playmakers are lacking here. (Note in mac post that two of those TD's were to Winslow) And the right side of the line is really, really bad. But teams have played a lot of game over the years lacking playmakers and quality OL's, yet, none of them has been as utterly futile as this one. It's historically bad and doesn't even matter who is playing QB. Whomever it is can no longer do the things they are known as being successful for.
Coaching and game planning and play calling enter into this equation big time. Along with the lack of talented playmakers and the right side of the line, when you add in the coaching, game planning and play calling you put the whole thing over the top in a historically bad offense.
You can point to Quinn and say it's his fault but you can't blame one guy. So then, you can point to DA and say it's all his fault but he ain't playing and when he did the results were the same. That alone tells me it's not the QB position.
We've had much worse OL's before. Much worse. On both sides of the center. Plus the center and still did better than this team offensively back in 1999 when both Couch and KJ were both rookies.
We have people in charge of this offense who are in way over their heads, don't see it themselves, don't believe it when they read it in the paper and actually claim "progress" after a game like we saw Monday Nite.
At this rate of progress they'll be rolling Mangini out in a wheel chair and celebrate his 80th birthday along with our first 8 win season.

If we can just play Detroit every week, and if Stafford can play Cleveland every week, they'll make the HOF
I'm glad Quinn did well. I'd love to be wrong about him. It'll take much, much more than a good game against a pathetic team to win me over.
Funny, I may have said the exact same thing last year after the Denver game..........
I was stuck listening to the Lions radio guys who weren't complimentary of Quinn's accuracy. I'm not gonna put much stock into that, but they mentioned he was behind his receivers in the 4th quarter. Baby-steps I suppose.
Play like this every week Quinn. You'll have to in order to save your job.

Tell me when BQ faces a real defense. He had 2 passes that "big time" QB's make. The Jennings miss before the half and the Gaines TD. Yet, he missed MMass so bad on a wide open pass that would have sealed the game right then and there without the Zebra's doing their deed.
BQ is a mess of contradictions.

I know it's a 60 minute game and there are many, many plays that can determine the outcome of the game, but you could argue that the missed 3rd down to MoMass at the end of the game is what cost us the win.

I will give BQ credit, at least he cares, unlike DA. You could tell he was seriously mad at himself after that lame duck. It just is terrible how the game went down anyway you look at it.
At least we will get some more looks from him against some tougher teams and see how he does. Maybe I am wrong, but he has a long way to go.

He got some. He'll get more. Likely WAY too much more.
He had a great game. BUT..........And I'm only going to say this one time because about 30 different posters will keep pressing like the media and won't let go no matter what I say............I said the same stuff last year when we played Denver.
I'm not about to heap praise on Stafford either. To this point in the year he had 6 TD's and 12 INT's with a 59 rating. He played the Browns and put up big numbers. He shouldn't land huge praise either.
As noted, this gives me a little hope that maybe I'm wrong, but he'll have to show it wasn't a fluke.........like the Donks game...........before I'll reconsider my position. The worst thing we can do as an organization is to get our hopes up on the wrong guy based on false perception. We did that too long with Couch, and we've done it too long with Anderson. I'm pragmatic when it comes to this stuff. Sorry if I can't get excited over this
Ok peeps..............Let me have it. I'll be laughing all the while.

Are you sure? I thought I saw a guy - kinda swoll - in a white #10 jersey run out there and bump the receiver. I was screaming at the top of my lungs "No, No, No, you idiot ... stay on the sideline".
I don't think Mangini is going to be too happy with him.

They all get props but not BBQ ???
I'll be laughing all the while.
maybe we could have a press conference using Toad sound bites just like the beer commercials

Are you sure? I thought I saw a guy - kinda swoll - in a white #10 jersey run out there and bump the receiver. I was screaming at the top of my lungs "No, No, No, you idiot ... stay on the sideline".
I don't think Mangini is going to be too happy with him.
it was really George Kokinis

Toad, he wasn't very accurate. That was his biggest problem today.
But he still had his best game as a pro. He made some very good throws, though he struggled on the deep ball. He made good reads, quick decisions and found the open guys. He just wasn't that accurate.

That concerns me. Accuracy tends to be something you can't quite teach.
Politicians are puppets, y'all. Let's get Geppetto!
