My own opinion is that Mangini has lost the veterans, but if he stays I think he has to adjust some things regarding practice intensity and disciplinary action.
I don't think it has so much to do with the physicality of practice but a lot to do with the seemingly fact that this regime has no idea of how to plan to win a game.
The offensive game plan has sucked for the most part. In addition, and this is big, the rookie OC has no idea how to take advantage in his in-game play calling taking advantage of mismatches in specific down and distances at specific field positions. An experienced OC can make immediate adjustments and call an effective play given all those considerations with a quick decision.
Daboll lacks the in-game experience to make those quick decisions.

Mangini did kind of put Steiny on blast about his weight prior to the season starting..
He could be playing with a lackluster attitude b/c of that.

"Thomas, is not the star he is reported to be on this board, but he is a keeper."
Can anyone actually say something more rediculous??? I don't think so.
Just ignore the fact that all his PEERS must be from this board too as he has made 2 Pro-Bowls his first two years. But you are right he is not a star
Just ignore the play he makes on stud pass rusher after stud - he is the only one to have handled Jared Allen btw this year.
I have been very disappointed in the play of Steinbach - as for NO MORE OL DRAFTED...well maybe not in the first in 2010 unless we get two picks with a little trade down (I said little not 5- 21, like 1-4or 5.
But I think we need a RT, RG and LG for that matter - for the future.
Unfortunately if you state...not NOW...well then WHEN...and until that WHEN happens we won't have that all important CONTINUITY which means a lot for the OL...something we have NEVER HAD. But if we can get 5 relatively young Starters here and lock them up...that's when you say...NO MORE...but even then you got to pull the trigger for depth and for the future!
We got 2 third round picks...at least one OLman from there.
If we can get 2 2nd rounders with a Trade down from our first rounder (only if BQ clearly is our Franchise QB) - I'd like to see one investment made there as well.
I don't want us to REACH for one...only if a Real good value is there. Pull the Trigger.
I think we got two long term OLmen now...the rest can be upgraded on...we should have decent depth meaning the guys starting would be nice as backups not starters.
When you are talking about a UNIT of 5 that is as good as its weakest link...that is 22.7% of the entire starting lineup O n D combined. that is 45.5% of the OFFENSE...you better darn well keep on investing in them. There is no ENOUGH...its a continuous thing.

Hey, Curtis: I don't agree he's playing at a low level. However, I would say some players -- well, a lot of players -- have not taken to the new coaching staff.
What a pathetic, cop-out answer. That's what I've come to expect from Grossi.
Either Stein ISN'T playing well or he IS. There's no excusing one or the other by taking a shot at the coach.
Grossi, you're a wussy. Be a man and either say Stein is playing poorly or he's quit on the coaches, but don't try and play the middle ground to fit your agenda.
Pathetic.

What about a little of both?? Stieny isn't playing well because the new blocking scheme doesn't fit his abilities??? I theorized in the off season that switching from a zone scheme to a straight man on man mauler type of OL that Gini went to would hurt ES. Gini then told Stieny that he needed to gain weight, and ES did. I theorized at that point that it could take away some of his athleticism that made him good. Not to pat myself on the back to hard [pat...pat]...lol........but from what I am seeing so far this year I was right on both.
I don't however blame Gini for this, because you simply can not plan your scheme around a LG. Stieny is simply a square peg in a round hole, and needs to go somewhere (or here depending on what we do next year) that uses a zone scheme.
Against logic, the most effective armor is willful ignorance.

We report, you deride ... Pathetic copout answer or not, what if its true? What if a large number of players - especially veterans - have issues with the coaching staff and their policies and gameplans to the degree that its affecting their play? Do we get rid of all of them? Steinbach has been a good football player, bordering on elite, for some time ... did he suddenly start stinking for no reason, or is it the scheme?

Because integrity isn't just a word in the dictionary, and Grossi is choosing to say that Stein isn't playing well because of Mangini, which essentially is saying it's ok that he plays poorly because it's the coaches fault.
And that's wrong.

It's not hard to read between the lines...
Players aren't buying what Mangini's selling. Steinbach's hated him from day one cuz Mangini told him to gain weight by any means necessary even though he's allergic to wheat.

My shot is directed at Grossi and his weaseling excuse for Stein's iffy play. That's a separate discussion than an evaluation of Grossi.
As Willie and have discussed and agreed upon, Stein is a poor fit for this offense and would be better in a spread or WCO. He's a finesse guy, not a brute.

Bordering on elite means pretty damn good. Steinbach can play any position on the O-line. He's probably the best RT on this team, but he's better at LG. He was an alternate to the Pro Bowl in '08, and now, under this coaching regime he's become decent, bordering on garbage? I don't buy it. Something's wrong here.
