What Rookie do you feel have been the biggest contributor to the Browns this season so far?
Personally, I'm not sure if any of them have really stepped, but I'd lean towards Mohamed Massaquoi & Kaluka Maiava.
Then, I got to thinking, how have other Rookies around the league done, (Mostly the ones that were mentioned as possible Browns picks). Which players do you wish we hadn't passed on based on how they've played this season so far?
I'd say Brian Orakpo or Kenny Brit, but I really don't want to any Offensive Players because I don't know how any rookie could do anything in our system.
Thoughts?

Kaluka Maiava has been okay for us.
Brian Cushing has been a stud for the Texans.
Wouldn't surprise me if Sanchez won ROY

My jaw would drop to the floor if he won it.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Roy ? As far as defense, that's going to the guy we passed on so that we could take Brian Robiskie.

Offensive : oher
defensive : Matthews or Byrd
2 of those three are guys I wanted with our 1.

With hindsight being 20/20, here is who I would have taken with our picks:
21: Clay Matthews 36: Jairus Byrd 50: Phil Loadholt 52: Sean Smith 104: Johnny Knox
Then give me Nick Reed instead of Carey and keep Davis and Francies.
I have defended our draft, but this is a lot closer to what I wanted during the draft. Though I wanted Connor Barwin or Everette Brown instead of Byrd.

I think Sean Smith has been struggling as a rookie... I was among those that thought he would be a good pickup but he hasn't been good so far.
Remember all the people who wanted us to take everette brown at #5?
If I had been drafting our slots, I would have taken:
21: Clay Matthews 36: Rey Maualuga 50: Phil Loadholt 52: LeSean McCoy 104: Zack Follett (with consideration to Austin Collie and the wideout from Rice whose name I can no longer remember! *edit - Jarrett Dillard but I had to look it up*)
Yes, I know that's 3 linebackers, but going into the draft I said we needed 3 or 4 new linebackers.
Knowing what I know now, I'd take
21: Clay Matthews 36: Jairus Byrd 50: Sebastian Vollmer 52: Paul Kruger 104: Austin Collie 6a: Zack Follett 6b: Coye Francies (good pick!) 6c: James Davis (good pick!)

David Viekune, he's almost everything a Browns second round pick should be...cut. Why is that waste wearing 57? Isn't it bad enough he cost us a high pick, he's got to insult Browns history too? Sorry DV I'm just sick to death of Browns draft pratt falls.

I would picked up Brown in the second. He was still available when Robo was selected.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

Alot of draft boards had us taking him and he might be the one that got away. But would he be doing as well in Cleveland? Would he even be playing?

Sean Smith is going to be very very good IMO. I live in S. Florida and people down here are thrilled with him so far. Struggling? I don't think so.

Ok my mistake. I was only going off of what I had heard some announcers say during a dolphins game I watched. Glad to hear he's doing well.

I dont think we can over look our own Rookies in Alex Mack it's not easy being a center in this division and Alex has held his own pretty good for the first year, He will only get better. Mossiqui is gonna be a very good WR as long as be learns how to become consistant. I'm not disapointed in our rookie class actually I think were gonna see better things coming from them next year.

at this point, why wouldnt we see veikune, robiskie, or francies? it's just mind boggling
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Everyone needs to remember this:
Coye Francies - 6th Round Draft Pick, they are expendable, and are usually guys that play Special Teams and Back Ups.
David Veikune - Was considered a PROJECT, therefore meaning not ready to see the field of action. He could be a product of Great Combine Numbers which Over Hyped him. Too early to tell.
Brain Robiskie - It is possible that he just isn't that good. We don't see him in practices, but it's possible that he isn't as NFL ready as many thought.

And they aren't going to get better sitting and watching old fogies play in their final season as a professional football player.
However, apparently it's not a part of the process or something...
you had a good run Hank.

The WMMS pregame yesterday was talking about how we should be playing every rookie we have now to see what we got since this season is shot. Not even dressing Robo or Harrison for that matter? Sitting those draft picks now is a huge waste of experience they could be gaining during a year that means nothing at this point.

Massaquoi is a star in the making in my opinion.
Maiava's forced into duty.
VERY disappointed in Robiskie and Veikune.
Then again, I shouldn't be surprised about Robiskie.

I think Mack is a very good rookie playing a difficult "unlgamorous" position, and should be a fixture at Center for a while....
Maiava is getting better each week as well as Mo Mass
The Jury is out on the others

Robo hasn't even played much, we have no idea what he's got or not... Just put the kid in and get the experience already. If he needs time to learn, now is the exact time to do it.

Despite what Fans think and Want, playing the best players suited to win take priority, sad but True.
The Rookies are gaining experience in practice and learning the system by watching the "old fogies" as you elegantly put it.

The only thing you can deduce from that is that he can't beat out Cribbs, Furrey, or Stuckey for some playing time.. which isn't promising.. Robo isn't even listed on the Browns depth chart.

It's almost like the coach is playing the guys he feels that give him the best chance for a win.....Kind of like a coach that knows his job is on the line not one that feels he is allowed the time for the rooks to learn and grow.....HUM

Although he is known for route-running and game knowledge, the thing he did really well at OSU was use his body on jump-balls, deep adjustments etc. We haven't seen him used in that capacity yet. I hope that's in the plans, because otherwise this could be a wasted pick.

the problem is that it takes time to develop young players. Bad teams don't have the time to wait. Too much "win now" by the fans and media.Look at how some on this board want to run Mangini out of town even before the bye week. Is Mangini the 2nd coming?
how in the heck will we know after just 9 weeks into the season with a teaam low on talent.

This sounds crazy but, 21. Mack C will be stallwart for years to come, hard to miss on top o-line picks 36. Maualuga ILB Starting for Cincy 50. Massaquoi WR in light of BE trade, OK pick. 52. Loadholt ORT Starting for Minny 104. D. Robinson G backup for Carolina, could be starting for us. 177. K. Ellison FS starting for SD 191. Francies CB should be starting for us 195. J. Davis RB would be starting for us, if not injured. The major problem I have had with our draft is that they drafted Veikune to be an ILB, really, I mean really, because they passed up Maualuga whom some wouldn't have freaked if we had taken him at #5 !!!!! We also obviously missed on the fact that the right side of the o-line was going to be so bad.
